Boy Meets Girl - Third Reich Style
gvb09077 September 2000
In "Two in a Big City" a Luftwaffe officer on leave in Berlin meets a German Red Cross worker. The film has much in common with von Collande's "Ein Schoner Tag" (1944), though in a somewhat lighter vein. Shot at the peak of Hitler's military success in the summer of 1941, "Zwei in einer großen Stadt" presents the "bright side" of Nazi Germany. Everyone is resolute, confident, smiling, and, occasionally, breaking into song. This isn't the way we like to think of the Nazi's, but the film clearly reflects how they preferred to think of themselves.

Romantic comedy set in wartime Germany
Lars-658 April 2001
In this romantic comedy set during World War two, a young soldier on furlough in Berlin falls in love with a Red Cross worker. This was one of the few Third Reich films to offer glimpses of everyday wartime life.

Warning: Spoilers
I got German swing pop singer , of the third Reich Rudi Schruki, confused with Horst Winters. It stated he made an appearance in the picture. But when the musical sequence happen the singer didn't looked like Rudi Schrukis face and his voice was bad. Then somebody makes an appearance and sings that didn't look like Rudie Schruki. Thats when I realized that this was Horst. There was a problem in that musical scene on the Ferry boat as Gisela left from the island lake leaving her friend Inge behind as Bernard heard her friend mentioning her and started to look for her.As the soldier took his guitar and started to sing to her, A women shows up and takes the guitar and finishes playing it as the play back of the song continues out of sync for the moment as the guitar is exchanged. But don't let that bother you. Guess who makes an appearance as an extra. Hitler in form of a picture behind the desk of Kathy Haak playing a red cross nurse. Clara Barton , founder, made sure that all red cross nurses were neutral of war. Bernard, played by Carl john, as leave. Gisela, played by Monika Burg, is a volunteer nurse for the red cross. When they first meet he ask where the office are. His girl friend was suppose to show up to meet him, Also name Gisela ,played by Hasi Wedler. But then decides to go home to his apartment to find out. The land lady tells him that she on a photography job. so he plans to go to the lake. Gisela is off. she's home. She going to the lake too. He spots her going in the park and follows her. Hitlers youth makes an appearance asking for donations for a quest. Yet films like Hitlers youth quest is banned in Germany? Well Bernard can't quite catch up to her . So at the beach dressing house , which looks like a gas chamber, he 's putting his swim suite on and recognizes her. But still looses her.So at the lake he getting a suntan while on the other side Gisela number 1 is with her best friend Inge, played by Marianne Simson in real life had attempted to join the Nazi party in 44, but was blocked by someone who attempted to assassinated Hitler and would end up in a Russian work prison camp until 1952. A fellow beach man shows up name Peter Pell, played by Hannes Keppler, starts to talk to Bernard until Inge throws the beach ball at him and he grabs it and chase each other. That when both Bernard and Inga go see each other and goes after her . He finally catches up with her boat. So they plan to stay with each other. But as both go into the dressing room individually, they loose each other. Finally she catches up with him at a telephone. He's calling the other Gisela up to find out if she was back. She answers the phone and starts to jump on him and hangs up . When he finishes to his surprise Gisela number 1 is their. Well since Gisela and him were just school sweetheart and weren't serious,he was trying to explain to her but she gets jealous and almost takes off.But they get back together again and take tour of Berlin. Starting at a tower restaurant, I'm sure would be later bombed . And a drive on the Berlin avenue. But as they get in the subway they get lost. She shows up at a zoo. but he never shows up. Then she leaves. Well at home old sweet heart Gisela shows him her fiancé,played by the director himself Volken Von Kolande as Dr. Ebenhard Berg. Gisela number 1 is at home sad and comforting herself with her cat name Cleopatra. Then decide to call . By that time Bernard remembers where her address is. And starts to take off until the phone rings and his ex girl friend answers the phone telling her he on his way. They finally meet now permanently. This seems to taken from the 1928 part talkie American film Lonesome. The same exact plot. I wonder if that came to Germany?
