(Cbr) Any episode of a DC television show titled "Birds of Prey" is going to come under incredible scrutiny. After all, that’s the name of one of DC’s longest-lived – and most beloved – ongoing female-lead series. Since most comic book movies still don’t pass the Bechdel test, fans are more than eager to see female interactions that don’t hinge upon their male co-stars in television shows and movies. Now that Arrow has come close to introducing Huntress and Black Canary’s storied partnership on TV, we have five other female partnerships that we want to see make the transition from the page to the screen. Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy This dynamic duo starred in one of the most endearing and enduring episodes of "Batman: The Animated Series,” as it depicted DC’s Thelma and Louise painting Gotham red. Harley’s already had an Easter egg appearance in "Arrow,...

Levi’s leads on HIV education, Bill Donohue defends the Spanish Inquisition, Zac Efron up for new High School Musical movie
Teen Wolf has unveiled some casting news. Confusingly, Flowers In the Attic‘s Mason Dye has been cast as Garrett, while Ender’s Game star Khylin Rhambo has been cast as the “gay freshman with a sense of humor” lacrosse player Mason . Time to hit the gym, boys!
Levi’s has always been a vocal advocate for Lgbt rights, and their corporate policies extend to HIV/AIDS advocacy. They have an extensive program for training employees on the spread, prevention, and stigma of HIV, have programs to cover 100% of HIV medical expenses worldwide, and successfully lobbied governments around the world for changes in treatment and coverage. It’s a model program.

Well, geeks, the Us election is (thankfully) over, and things went better for queers – and women – and queer women – than any of us thought. Marriage equality in three more states! A lesbian senator (Tammy Baldwin, the first-ever openly gay Us senator, and geek hero in her own right)! Let’s not forget, this was the first time in history that marriage equality was won by a popular vote. The times, they are a-changing.
In honor of all the good news, we thought we’d take a look at a few of our favorite political women from sci-fi/fantasy. If only there were more women of color represented in the politics of speculative fiction.

Two major highlights at this year’s event are key masterpieces in the career of Terry Gilliam. 1985’s “Brazil” creates an unforgettable portrait of a dystopian future both amusingly absurdist and unsettlingly provocative. Jonathan Pryce stars alongside Kim Greist, Ian Holm and Robert De Niro, while cinematographer Roger Pratt and production designer Norman Garwood provide unforgettable imagery. Equally mesmerizing is Gilliam’s 1995 thriller “12 Monkeys,” in which a grizzled convict (Bruce Willis) travels back in time to prevent a man-made virus from destroying the future. Brad Pitt’s Oscar-nominated turn as a crazed virus...

Calgary’s $100 Film Festival is a celebration of film. Not “film” as a concept, but of actual celluloid. This year, their 19th, is three nights of strictly 8mm and 16mm films — No Video! — screening at the historic Plaza Theatre on March 3-5.
Each night starts off with a real bang: A unique live film and music performance by local musicians and filmmakers. Thursday features the combination of blues musician Erin Ross and a film by Farrah Alladin and Nathan Taylor; Friday is experimental indie band Axis of Conversation and a film by Alex Mitchell; and Friday is musician Kris Ip Ryzak and a film by Ben Tsui.
Also on Friday, mixed in with the regular lineup of films, is a mini-retrospective of Montreal-based experimental filmmaker Alexandre Larose, featuring four of his films — Artifices, 930, Ville Marie and Brouillard. Then, after all films have screened for the night, Larose will host a...
