Southie Sociology 101
farcofcolombia11 April 2015
Oh sure, it's easy to belittle this long-forgotten monstrosity. Yes, it wasn't funny. Yes, the acting was shockingly poor. Yes, the episodes seem to have been directed by a dog with a camera strapped to its back. Yes Yes Yes. What most people failed to appreciate was that although the show lacked any entertainment value, it presented for the American public sociological insights into South Boston and, especially, the people who live there. It was particularly effective at representing the poor reasoning and verbal skills, the violent drunkenness, and the ubiquitous self-pity that are defining characteristics of the typical "Southie." The only things missing were the constant spitting and spontaneous vomiting.

You'll have a better time at an insurance seminar

Fox followed the huge mistake of airing this piece of @#$*, with the great judgement of pulling it after only 3 episodes. You may remember this failed show by the Fox commercial with a sort of cute blonde doing a little pelvis gyration while wearing these clam digger capri pants. That was the high point. I can't even believe I'm wasting my time typing about it!!

I Have the Catfight on Tape!!
bajbij24 October 2001
The first episode is the only one I REMEMBER. However, the reason is simple. We are introduced to her rival (it's safe to say no one watching gave a damn) and after much teasing by her, Costello jumps out from behind her bar and goes after her as the two pull hair and pull each other's hair out of the bar as all the drinkers in the bar go out to watch the fight. That pretty much was the highlight of this insipid show. A shame too. But that catfight was awesome. Well, there were better catfights in better shows, but this one was good. Anyway, the humor wasn't good and Sue Costello wasn't very charismatic, thus the reason why it lasted only 3 episodes (I only saw one episode and thought it was one episode long.)

a brief reflection on genius...
setzer519126 October 2004
this show was unbelievable, just the notion that such an ingenious piece of artistry was allowed on the air puts a smile on my face. The fact that Fox cancelled it after only 3 short episodes was a complete mistake, one which follow them around as a long, dark shadow for all the rest of eternity. The limitless potential this show eminated was perhaps visible only by the most gifted of minds, which, it can be said without much hesitation, the executives at Fox did not possess. In conclusion, the acting was unparallelled, the character development was sincere and direct, and the writing all didn't suck. For shame Fox, you have truly smited one of gods greatest gifts.

P.S. Today is opposite day

UN-aired episodes
sonjac-9600911 February 2017
My son was an extra on one of the last episodes that never aired, I seem to remember Aaron Paul also as an extra on that episode. Is there a way to view UN-aired episodes? I never got to see the one my son was in as a child. OR is there a way to purchase all episodes including the ones that never aired so that we could watch the one my son was in? If so, can someone advise me how to do that? Thank you............ ............ ................ ....... .............. ... ................ ................................ . so I guess this is more of a question than a review. Just looking for a way to view the Halloween episode.-

common in hollywood

The story portrayed an working class Irish-American family in South Boston. That is an interesting start, but as usual, Hollywood butchered and sterlized culture. I grew up in that area. It was obvious those actors and writers had never visited South Boston, nor had they ever met anyone from South Boston. South Boston is a rough place that has a distinct East Coast character. I have respect for David Lauria, but even he did not research his role that well. The writing was atrocious. The jokes were force-fed.
