Better in Canada
StarGaze-919 August 2000
No offense to my friends to the south (America), but MTV's "The Tom Green Show" does not do the original show justice.

Granted, its still over the top hilarious, but in Canada, the show was completely uncensored. Tom was completely free to be as crazy as he wanted to be without having anything censored. A few of his segments that originally aired in Canada have aired on the American show with language and other stuff cut out. That sucks!

Tom, on behalf of all your fans in Canada, please come back and do your show here the way we remembered it. Or at least do your show on a network that will let you get away with a little more stuff than now (who knew MTV had a standards and practices department).

And to you American viewers who are interested in the original Tom Green Show, I highly recommend you look for the following videos featuring the best of the original Tom Green Show:

"Something Smells Funny", "Tonsil Hockey", and "Road Kill" on VHS, and "Endangered Feces" on DVD.

Thank you.

Surprisingly ahead of its time
rezzzz823 June 2021
You wouldn't think this of all things would be ahead of its time but it is. Tom Green Show should be looked back as ahead of its time, at least to the year 2015.

This show i hope will be better received today than the way it was 20 years ago, you dont have to like it but damn, i like this.

...The Canadian Show, not the MTV one (1999-2001)
kontrolmaster27 October 2004
A lot of people will not understand the appeal of Tom Green, especially if you are from the US and have only known him through the notoriously base version of the Tom Green Show shown on MTV in 1999. In regards to the Canadian version of the Tom Green Show shown on the Comedy Network (1997-1999), it was not a show for everyone. I personally found it hilarious and probably shaped the way I viewed what is humorous and what isn't. Just for a point of comparison, currently I like shows like "Mr. Show with Bob and David", "MTV's the State", "Arrested Development", "Reno 911". I think The Tom Green Show (1997-1999) is perfect for those who like raw, unfiltered, absurdist humour.

A Boring Idiot Performing for Bored Idiots
jswansburg198122 September 2018
This entire show is just a zero talent idiot acting like a knob, and when it's not funny he just keeps doing it hoping that the viewers will eventually get uncomfortable enough to laugh but usually it does not work. If you think this is funny this might be the show for you though. "I have a bum bum I have a bum bum I have a bum bum bum bum bum bum bum buuuum BUM BUM BUUUUUUUM I HAVE A BUM BUM PLEASE LAUGH PLEASE LAUGH AT ME BECAUSE I AM SAYING BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM!" It's just a grown man saying stupid things to hear himself talk.

Sometimes Funny, Sometimes Awful.
chelletrudeau17 February 2008
I remember this show. I watched it pretty often. Usually I thought most of the show was boring but there would be at least one stunt or skit or interview that would be so funny I would almost cry, and that one part of the show was always worth sitting through the rest of the show that was boring or stupid or insulting.

Tom Green is still in my opinion better than any of the Jackass shows that came after it. None of his shows after this one were nearly as good. I like the best of DVDs because it's most of the great bits I remember and a lot of the "filler" is cut out. I have seen his new internet broadcast from his house and it is not nearly as good as this show so I would recommend picking it up on DVD instead of watching the new show. It is more of a sit and talk show (and the taping isn't very high quality which is to be expected from an internet show a guy makes himself in his house) and he doesn't do the really funny on the street stuff or interviews or stunts.

Useless
matlock-63 June 2002
One of the greatest wastes of space ever devised. I'm not the type to look down on low-brow humor, either.

Tom Green is not funny, or talented, or clever, or much of anything but a dumb frat-jock suffering from a severe case of ADD.

On the other hand, Andy Dick's parody of him (on the Andy Dick show) is utterly hilarious.

Tom Green is the perfect example of networks trying to pander to a target audience. Have a little faith in the youth of today.

How can this be TV companies 'pandering' us?
quadrophenia7927 November 2003
The comment from the other guy that said The Tom Green show is a perfect example of TV companies 'pandering' us is wrong. Plain wrong. MTV didn't create Tom Green. Mary-Jane and Richard Green did. Tom has risen from public access TV. He wasn't being paid to do it. Whether people like it or not (And a lot hate it) Tom Green has made it. He was given the Comedy network and MTV shows because his Rogers 22 show was rated highly. MTV didn't pick him because they thought that's what we wanted to see, we DID want to see it, the proof was in the audience figures. Don't like it, don't watch.

Tom Green rules!!!!
andy-2271 February 2000
"The Tom Green Show" is quite possibly the funniest TV show I have ever seen! What makes it funnier is that he isn't even trying to tell a joke. Like comic genius Andy Kaufman, he is testing you, seeing what makes you tick, and quickly learning how to really p**s you off! The stunts he pulls on innocent bystanders are hilarious, not just because of Tom Green's attitude about them, but how the victims of the stunts react! I'll never forget the one where he's undercutting the pizza delivery, where he was "trying to start a new business" with all of the extra pizza toppings neatly organized in a toolbox. A guy that was nearby got so p***ed he kicked the box, sending the toppings flying in the air. Tom Green of course, continued to bother the poor fella. I know it wouldn't be funny to be a victim of Tom Green, but watching him work his magic is hilarious!

Ruthless Humor... finally
Ashlee-317 April 1999
For any of you who don't know yet The Tom Green Show is currently airing on MTV. This guy is a comedy god. He takes those events you secretly dream up in the back of your head (you know those things you say "What if I did this.." but of course you never do it) But Tom Green does. Even if it means problems with the law or even threats by pedestrians. If you're in the mood for eye shocking incredibly funny real events then don't miss this great show!

Amazing! Hilarious! The Best Talk Show on TV!
JasonM22 February 1999
I never saw the original "Tom Green Show" in Canada but recently it has started on MTV.

This is an amazingly hilarious show. The best part I ever saw was him buying some condoms ("Abstinence...I'll have to try that.) I was on the floor for days.

Also, Tom will stop at nothing to get a laugh. He has tried to revive a barbecue chicken, humping a moose so it will live, and calling his brother "Joe" over the PA system at a Wal Mart.

If you haven't seen this show...Tom ought to pee in a jar of pickles and make you eat one!

Tom Green is NOT Andy Kaufman
seandman9 November 2000
The comment that has most irked me is how unique and ahead of his time Tom Green is. Tom Green does 3rd grader jokes. He annoys other people, and that's all.

Andy Kaufman was a genius because he didn't try to push peoples buttons, he just tried to be entertaining and nobody at the time got it. Watch a special on him, or read his bio. He did things that were incredibly sophisticated (i.e. the Mighty Mouse record on SNL, or the talk show where his desk was four feet higher than the guest). He didn't just run around screaming "Poopie!" and getting a cheap laugh, or cause some guy to go into a frenzy by walking up to him and kicking him.

Tom Green is an immature little punk who gets paid to annoy people. Don't fool yourselves into thinking him a social engineer to justify laughing at toilet humor. And for the love of Kaufman, please stop comparing them.

The Unabomber was unique too.
musicman-205 May 1999
If you haven't seen this show yet, there is no rush. Honestly, it is embarrassing and an insult to any person over the age of thirteen. The show centers on an overfunded, egotistical maniac named Tom Green with the maturity of a box of hair. Some of the cult followers of this show say that the people who don't like this show cannot appreciate its "unique sense of humor". Well, I'd like to point out that the Unabomber was pretty unique, too, but we don't give him money and tell him to paint naked lesbians on his mother's car.

This is my personal critique of the notorious TV show.
FlyBoyDC27 August 1999
"The Tom Green Show" is perverse, insolent, and disgusting...but it is equally compelling.

Imagine the ineptitude of "The Jerry Springer Show," the hilarity of "The Simpsons," and the vulgarity of "South Park," all merging together into one half-hour show. A show where boundaries are crossed, and tastelessness is pushed to new heights. This is one show where nobody is spared from the imposing wrath of one single man! He's rambunctious, he's spontaneous...he's the amazing, one-and-only Tom Green!

"The Tom Green Show", hosted by none other then Tom Green himself has one simple concept: Mr. Green chooses people at random, and cajoles them to throw away their dignity in order to humiliate themselves in front of roaring crowds sitting in the audience seats. These hapless folks, ranging from store clerks to anonymous senior citizens do not realize what sort of embarrassing situations they are getting themselves into! Tom Green's co-host is the rotund but affable Glenn Humplik, an innocent and benign man with a simple life and a fairly mundane job. This man is a saint compared to Tom Green. Humplik is also a part-time employee at a telephone company. Hey, he also likes to look at (GASP!) his sister's mammary glands! Then, there is that guy by the window, who just sits there, laughing incessantly at every joke Tom Green makes...

What is the point of "The Tom Green Show?" Well...I really wish I knew. I cannot attest that this show has a lot of intelligent, insightful meaning, but at least it never fails to make you laugh. There are so many memorable moments in this show that I can hardly contain myself. (How many times have you heard that line before?) Some of the most outrageous segments to look out for include "urine trouble," where Humplik is in serious distress, and "talk to the poo," which is...you've guessed it. Another unforgettable scene was when Tom Green made "home movies" involving both a sheep and a pizza delivery man. Yet, there are other controversial moments which are far too graphic to describe... It is moments like those segments involving scatological humor that make you glad that there are people out there like Tom Green who are entertaining the public. They make an impact in society...

Apparently, this show's success is credited to Tom Green's sick but perceptive sense of humor. He can turn any generic event into a circus. As well, in the face of danger, Tom Green never backs down...he leaps into action! From skateboarding to swimming across Lake Washington, Tom Green is ready, willing, and able. Tom Green continuously keeps his viewers awed and amused. He often concocts the most bold, daring coups ever. His enterprises are always unanticipated, never routine. Sometimes they are uproariously hilarious, other times, you will be shaking your head in tremendous shock. Nevertheless, "The Tom Green Show" is a thoroughly fun and pleasant television show that is worth at least thirty minutes of your life.

Personally, I find "The Tom Green Show" to be downright ribald. It is all in bad taste, but I find this show to be so comprehensively impudent that I cannot help but to snicker loudly. Novelty does count and Tom Green can always find novel ways of transforming seemingly ordinary and harmless circumstances into laugh riots. Tom Green is a disturbed little man. That's what makes him such a legend! As for Glenn Humplik, I feel really sorry for this character. I would be distraught if my best friend began ridiculing me on national TV. However, everyone knows that Humplik is a good sport and should therefore take the teasing blithely.

"The Tom Green Show" is great. It if often freaky and ludicrous, but it is a joyous occasion to see people make idiots of themselves in front of camera. If ever Tom Green has a message to say to the people of the world, then he would probably say that everyone needs to lighten up a bit and have a little fun. It is acceptable to make a travesty of yourself in front of millions of people; that is only human nature. Anyway, this show is guaranteed to make you laugh so hysterically that you will embarrass yourself in front of your loved ones. Just sit back on your comfortable couch, forget your daily troubles, and prepare to laugh out loud.

Watch out, Tom Green may be coming to your neighborhood soon...

Here are some words of wisdom from Tom Green: "My bum is on the Swedish...SWEDISH...Swedish...SWEDISH"

SPECIAL NOTE: If you ever plan to swim in Lake Washington, remember what Tom Green has said. Since the human body is "composed" of 80% water, then only 20% of the human being should have to swim. The remaining 80% of the body must "mix in" with the water. Okay? Good. This is Tom Green's theoretical theory!

P.S. Do not forget to check out Tom Green's new music number, "The Bum Bum Song ('Lonely Swedish')." It will definitely change your perspective about the human rear end!

RATING: Superb Entertainment! (These comments are based on the overall impression of the TV show. Television shows will not earn a star rating. This is because each episode will vary in its quality.)

often quite funny
Indy-5226 May 2001
I'm addicted to this show. It is not exactly always funny, but when I laugh about something, I laugh to tears. Some people call Tom Green stupid. I disagree, he often does things that are quite original and he's always surprising. He rarely repeats himself. It's weird how his parents are so normal, I wonder how he got to be so twisted. I liked the episode where Glenn Humplik showed us some clips Tom did in the early 90's: he's even worse there! It think he toned down his show for MTV, but lately he tends to do things that are less outrageous and more funny. I won't give any examples, because I would start and then never end. His show is simply often hilarious and original. Everyone should try watching it once to see if they like it. I know many people of my age (15) like him and his show. It think it's most suited for people ranging from age 14 to age 24. Others might be too young or too old to "get" it.

Weirdly Compelling

The Tom Green Show is sometimes weird and sometimes gross (even sometimes not all that funny), but is always compellingly watchable. Tom Green is going to be a big star someday; I think he will be a great comic actor.....he definitely has charisma!

Hilarious!
Steve31623 February 1999
This show is just plain funny! I started watching it only a few weeks ago after it started airing on MTV and haven't stopped since! Tom Green's acting and skits are outrageous and will make you laugh even after the show is over! He is one of the wildest comedians I have seen in a while. Every week we see Tom go out in the streets and do everything from breaking into a art gallery and running from the guards to running around a children's soccer game while holding a radio playing some crazy song. The base of the show could be more funnier, but his skits are the best around! I think the show should stay how it is however, a change could be bad to the almost perfect show!

Funniest show on Canadian TV
Nobrayn27 December 1998
Each season, the Tom Green Show gets so much better. This is due to recognition, and fan requests for MORE!! Tom Charges next to nothing to be a member of the audience, considering you live in the area where it's filmed (Ontario somewhere). If you go see the show without knowing what to expect, you're in for a VERY big surprise. He's got the traditional talk show set-up; a desk for him, chairs for the guests, etc. It's comparable to the Conan O'Brian Show - Conan's got a fat sidekick named Andy, and Tom's got a fat sidekick named Glen (Humplik). The show might start out relatively normal, until Tom whips out a bag of milk and drenches Glen. OK, a little strange, sure. Then Tom might direct your attention to the monitors, which will show you a clip of him doing something insanely stupid around the city, like putting himself in a huge plastic bag and collecting garbage, dressed up like a lady, and singing "It's time to clean the city!" over and over. OK, he's insane. Now he'll bring out a guest, maybe a cook. He'll let the chef start explaining how to cook mussels, then Tom just might grab a baseball bat and proceed to smash the food & equipment. Wow, this is funny, you think - until Tom throws the bowl of smashed mussels into the audience, many landing in your lap.

Of course - this may not happen. Instead, he might just get up and start screaming, or whip out his guitar and serenade to Glen's buttocks. Or he could just decide to start the music, and trash the set. You'll never know what to expect if you watch the Tom Green Show.

This show is so funny. Tom Green is so random with his stunts. He is great at making fun of people, and he makes it very funny with the use of a megaphone. Also, Glenn Humplik is amazing. Even though Tom makes a fool of him almost every episode, he keeps coming back. Glenn is the Daddy!!!

Unique and strangely compelling
Sycada23 May 2001
I'm a fairly recent fan of Tom Green, which is no surprise seeing as the show is rarely screened on tv over here and when it is it's on cable which I don't have.

However I was exposed to his bizarre humour recently and while some bits made me laugh and others made me think 'what a waste of time', I was compelled to watch more of it. Now I am at the point where I snap up any snippet of Greens antics that I get the chance to. It's strange but it really is true when people say that his humour is an acquired taste. Crazy, hilarious pranks riddle the show which are very much the type of thing that you and your buddies might do if only you had the guts. Really it's just harmless fun but the kind that can get you in trouble. EG: Going into a store and getting onto the intercom system or putting your own painting up in a national gallery.

It's certainly not for everyone, but if it sounds like a laugh to you then it probably will be.
