A Rocking Jerry Lee Lewis

Keep on 'Rockin (1969)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This D.A. Pennebaker short was filmed on September 13th, 1969 at the Toronto Rock 'n Roll Revival Festival and features Jerry Lee Lewis and the entire seven song set that he did that day, although for some reason the songs are edited out of order. Originally he kicked things off with Don't Be Cruel and then went into Hound Dog but here we start off with Mystery Train, which features the legend center stage with his guitar.

Outside of that edit the rest of the songs are complete and we get rocking versions of Mean Woman Blues, Great Balls of Fire, Whole Lotta Shaking' Going' On and finally Jailhouse Rock. Obviously there are a lot of Elvis songs here and Lewis even mentions that other legend but if you're a fan of the singer then there's no question that you'll enjoy this. That fire Lewis would bring to his performances are certainly here as he goes extremely fast through all of the songs and it's really a fiery performance and on that will have you wanting to stand up and dance.
