Harley Quinn Series
Written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti
Art by Chad Hardin and Stephane Roux
Colors by Alex Sinclair
Letterer John J. Hill
Covers by Amanda Conner and Paul Mount
Published by DC Comics
DC’s current Harley Quinn ongoing series does something that has never been done with the character: it gives her an identity not defined by the Joker. Quinn has forever been the long suffering companion to the Clown Prince of Crime, so much so that it’s hard to think of her as her own character and not just an extension of the Joker. DC must have felt the same way because when they started everything over with the New 52, they gave the character of Harley Quinn a complete makeover. Gone are the days of the red and black jester suit and domino mask. The new Dr. Harleen Quinnzel favors red and black bustiers and matching booty shorts.

It’s hard to believe that Australia once had a reputation for producing some top-notch exploitation flicks. In recent years the country has become more synonymous with soap operas that fear flicks, but recently there has been a resurgence in genre flicks from down under, from a growing “army” of independent filmmakers that are simply getting out there and making brand-new exploitation and horror movies. Murderdrome is one such movie.
Take one part Whip It and one part Gutterballs and you have Murderdrome, a fantastic rock ‘n’ roll-er derby horror from down under that tells the story of Cherry Skye, a roller derby sensation, who loves nothing better than competing in her favorite sport. Of...

Last weekend I was with my fellow ComicMixers Glenn Hauman, Adriane Nash and Martha Thomases at the annual MoCCA independent comics convention. And by “independent,” I mean web comics, self-published comics, small press comics, and what Ms. Nash refers to as “I’d rather be hand-stapled” comics. It’s one of my favorite shows for one simple reason: the enthusiasm in the room is tremendous.
I’d say that the average age of the creators who weren’t paying for one of the few corporate booths (Fantagraphics, Yoe Books, Abrams, etc.) was about 25 years old. Which means there was a lot of dyed hair and hipster hats in Manhattan’s Beaux-Arts 69th Regiment Armory. These are folks who, by and large, couldn’t care less about capes and masks and thought Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a fun movie but not necessarily a justification for one’s choice of vocation.

So… we're just not going to discuss hockey, okay? There are a lot of other Olympic events left to watch. Let's just move on. Mikaela Shiffren! 3:00 p.m. - NBC - Freestyle Skiing (Women's Ski Cross), Biathlon (Women's Relay) * You know what people call ski cross? Roller derby on snow. Yeah, there's a lot of crashing and wiping out, and there are skis involved, so it's extra dangerous! All "Amazing Race" season long, other teams targeted Hockey Brothers Bates & Anthony as being the strongest pair. That ended up being appropriate caution, since Bates & Anthony won the million dollar prize on Sunday's (May 5) finale. However, when the episode began and Bates and Anthony were assessing their Top 4 competition, the team that they said worried them most was the under-the-radar union of Roller Derby Moms Beth Bandimere and Mona Egender. It wasn't that Beth and Mona were especially dominating. They didn't win a single Leg, but they battled back from a fair amount of...

[Spoiler Alert!] The Amazing Race has come to an end. Eleven pairs have toughed it out this season, traveling more than 30,000 miles, visiting 10 countries on five continents and enduring multiple obstacles, all on a quest for the grand prize of $1 million. And on tonight's finale, viewers were able to witness who left the show a whole 'lot richer. The duo that took it all home were... Hockey brothers, Bates and Anthony Battaglia! Following them were newlyweds Max and Katie. Roller Derby moms Mona and Beth finished third, and country singers Caroline and Jennifer ended up in fourth, but the race wasn't even close when it got to the end. The...

After traveling to 10 countries on five continents and more than 30,000 miles, the hockey brothers, Bates and Anthony Battaglia, won the $1 million prize. Newlyweds Max and Katie came in second. Roller Derby moms Mona and Beth took third. And country singers Caroline and Jennifer finished fourth.
The country singers were ultimately done in by dirty, claustrophobic bog snorkeling in Ireland. The Roller Derby moms, meanwhile, struggled to serve a five-course meal in the correct order to “First Class passengers” at the shipyard where the Titanic was built,...

YouTube stars Joey Graceffa and Meghan Camarena seemed to be having a lot of fun on "The Amazing Race," so it's a little bit sad to hear the newly eliminated duo discussing their disappointment that the other teams seemed to dislike them on the Race. It wasn't all of the other teams, of course. Joey & Meghan made an early alliance with John & Jessica and Roller Derby Moms Mona & Beth, targeting Hockey Brothers Bates & Anthony, the team they felt [correctly, so far] was the biggest threat. That, of course, left them feeling targeted by Bates & Anthony,...

Well, that was pretty down and derby, am I right, guys? Sorry, sorry. I'm just making some cheesy jokes in the spirit of "Na Ki'i (Dolls)", a delightful episode that fused fun action with a great sense of camp and the most Catherine Rollins we've seen in a long time.
Are you ready to talk derby with me? Okay, I'm really sorry this time. I swear I've gotten it out of my system (probably).
First things first: I can admit when I am wrong. I had not previously been a huge Catherine fan, but in this episode - with her cool roller derby shorts and hot surveillance moves - she won me over (also, scientists have proven it is medically impossible not to enjoy the presence of someone referring to herself as "Alice Trooper").
Catherine hasn't gotten a chance to show her stuff like this on Hawaii Five-0 in a while,...

Roller derby is a big thing on TV right now. In the past few years, we have seen plots involving the violent sport used in shows as varied as "Top Chef," "Bunheads," "The Bachelor" and "Psych." Now, "Bones" joins in on the trend with "The Doll in the Derby."
The case begins when the team must investigate the murder of a derby competitor whose remains are found dismembered. Initial examinations indicate that the victim may have suffered from domestic abuse. At least, that's the conclusion that birthday-boy Wendell (Michael Grant Terry) comes to after seeing all of her earlier injuries.
But as we know from the title of the episode, that's not it. The victim participated in roller derby.
Based on what you see on TV, it's a wonder anyone ever survives roller derby. Those athletes are always bleeding and broken. Maybe it's even the truth -- roller skating is...

Arie thinks Tierra is just ‘tierrable’! Sean might be too oblivious to see it, but his ‘Bachelorette’ Bff Arie thinks she is all wrong for the Texan beefcake.
Sean Lowe might be under Tierra LiCausi‘s spell, but thankfully his former love rival and co-star Arie Luyendyk Jr. can see right through her conniving ways! In his surprisingly funny and off the cuff Bachelor blog, Arie reveals why he is “tierrafied” of this season’s villain, and how he was so shocked that Sean gave her a rose during the Jan. 28 episode.
Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Opinion Of Sean & Tierra
Bachelor fans will recall that on the Jan. 28 episode, Tierra had an insane breakdown. In a nutshell, this is what happened:
Tierra showed her true colors when she attacked the other girls. “I don’t trust anybody here,” she howled. “I can’t take the fakeness from any of these girls any more,...

Sean finally proves he’s just as dumb as he looks, failing to see how ‘Tierra-ble’ Tierra is when she has her dramatic (fake) breakdown.
Tensions were high on the Jan. 28 episode of The Bachelor, as a group date of roller derby took a nasty turn when one of Sean Lowe‘s ladies face planted in a terrible accident. (That or one of the other girls pushed her, I can’t be sure.) Thirty seconds in to the first episode we get our first obligatory shot of Sean topless, and so it began!
Sean & Selma’s Private Date
Sean selected Selma for the first private date, and the other girls did the usual fake “ahhs” when she left to get ready. Sean took her on a private plane, then for a rock-climbing session in the Joshua Tree National Park. It’s never just dinner and a movie on The Bachelor,...

Tonight’s episode of The Bachelor (ABC, 8 p.m. Et) has everything the show is known for: tension as Tierra and everyone Robyn clash, an ill-conceived group outing that results in someone needing medical attention, a “Pretty Woman” date, and another love-conquers-all-fears adrenaline escapade (and a contestant with intimacy issues kicker). We asked host Chris Harrison for a few teases:

Get ready for some red hot tears on the Jan. 28 episode of ‘The Bachelor,’ as Amanda has a nasty fall & Tierra breaks down. And I thought demons were incapable of crying!
Why must every episode of The Bachelor involve violence and paramedics? Sean Lowe‘s ladies are either very accident prone or very willing to take out the competition. The Jan. 28 episode sees a roller derby event go from fun — well, as much fun as one can really have when roller blading — to tragic, as Amanda falls and potentially breaks her jaw. How on earth will she kiss Sean now?!

Episode 7 of Top Chef: Seattle certainly had some ups and downs, though it didn’t end up nearly as rough as the episode that only had downs a couple of weeks ago. Next week, Top Chef meets Roller Derby, and to help celebrate all the general Top Chef goodness, I have a great giveaway for you.

This time, they found themselves in a kitchen filled with products wrapped in aluminum foil. They could take anything they wanted, but once they unwrapped it, they had to use it. Worse, they had to cook in the foil, so no pots or such.

Bones has been on a bit of a hiatus throughout the end of the baseball season, but the show returns on Monday with all new episodes. We recently participated in a call with executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan to discuss what's coming next.
The Pelant Question. The mastermind hacker disappeared shortly after the season began, but he continues to hang over the heads of our characters. Stephen said that the Pelant story will heat up again in January when he'll return in earnest. In fact, Hart says that the Pelant return episode is "one of the biggest episodes we’ve ever shot." In addition, the writers are currently discussing the season ending and whether Pelant will be a part of that story.

Stories can be found in the most unlikely places. When filmmaker Daniel Hayward went to watch a game of the all-female Roller Derby in his hometown of Reservoir, he found himself confronted by a .bizarre. alternative sport in which female aggression and sexuality provide the entertainment.
.The film starts with misconceptions - I felt a bit funny asking, .So are all the girls lesbians?. and that sort of thing," Hayward says. "I didn.t want to come across like I just wanted to talk about tits and arse. I wanted to talk about how some of them really love to flaunt their sexuality, whether some of them didn.t, and if it was always up to them whether they wanted to dress up.
.Once I got to know the girls it was just like having a regular conversation with a friend. They were all pretty open, especially the American girls.

"Ben And Kate" (premieres Tues., Sept. 25 at8:30 p.m. Et on Fox) isn't about a couple or a will-they/won't-they partnership; it gets bonus points for sitcom originality right off the bat for being about an adult brother and sister, with all their family dysfunctions intact.
In "Ben and Kate," Dakota Johnson plays single mom Kate Fox and Nat Faxon plays her brother Ben, who moves in with his sister to help her raise her daughter Maddie, played by Maggie Elizabeth Jones. Kate's coworkers -- Lucy Punch's Bj and Echo Kellum's Tommy -- are on board with Ben's arrival since they too would love to see Kate get her life back on track, and because Ben is just a fun guy to have around.

Hell hath no fury, it seems...like a women scorned...on Skates! Strongman Pictures Entertainment have announced it has released the first full length trailer for upcoming roller derby slasher flick MurderDrome. Describing itself as a psycho-billy, roller derby, hack 'n slashing horror film it stars a number of genuine local derby girls in the role of hapless team who have managed to raise the soul of a murderous killer on skates. Suffice to say it looks rather different (which we like here at 24fps) so if chicks on skates - hacking and slashing their way through the competition - floats your boat head on down to the link. Synopsis: Like any good Roller Derby player Cherry Skye wears her undies on the outside and her panties on her head. It's no wonder she's caught the eye of spunky Brad Blunt. Unfortunately she's also earned the ire of Brad's ex,...

Los Angeles – Few rock bands that emerged during the '90s nu-metal phase still exist today and practically none have the amount of respect and admiration the Deftones receive from their musical peers. Countless bands cite the Sacramento-based group as a big influence on their music.
Saturday night (July 28) the Deftones stopped by the Troubadour in Los Angeles – an incredibly tiny, sweaty 300-capacity club – to perform their first proper show in nearly a year and their only solo date before heading out on a co-headlining amphitheater tour with System of a Down prior to their new, still-untitled album dropping on October 9. Soad drummer John Dolmayan and bassist Shavo Odadjian were both in attendance, enjoying the set alongside Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato.

For most "Mantracker" fans, it was hard saying goodbye to Terry Grant, the rugged outdoorsman who spent six seasons hunting human prey around the world. But, there's a new cowboy in town, so fans had best make some room in their hearts for Chad Savage.
The veteran woodsman from the tiny town of Caroline, Alberta, beat out 11 other finalists to fill the formidable Mantracker boots. Savage, whose real last name is Lenz, has been a hunting guide since the early '90s, and honed his navigational skills with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets as a young man.
This season, we see him travel to places like Florida, Hawaii and Crowsnest Pass to hunt diverse prey ranging from Toronto Roller Derby girls to a wild boar trapper. We caught up with him to chat about everything from scare tactics and his "aggressive" tracking style to how he got that fierce nickname,...

Sassy Pants looks a bit like Whip It if Ellen Page’s character found Joker makeup instead of Roller Derby. The coming-of-age film follows Bethany Pruitt (Awkward favorite Ashley Rickards), fresh out of high school and trying to spread her wings despite her suffocating mother (and by “suffocating,” I mean “wants Bethany to go to college nearby” — for shame!), her emotionally wrought, alcoholic, gay dad, Dale, and Dad’s hot young piece of cutoffs-wearing, line-dancing tail, played by none other than Haley Joel Osment (who is rockin’ the Pete-Wentz-circa-2007 bangs like the rent’s due tomorrow). The premise of a supernatural slasher horror based around a roller derby was more than odd enough to catch our attention, and seeing as the first teaser for Aussie indy horror Murderdrome has arrived, it’d be rude not to give it a watch. Time to get your skates and head down under for some - demon ghost of a vengeful murderess, wreaks death on a small town, girl roller derby team- bloody action. Like we said....just too weird to pass up. Synopsis: Like any good Roller Derby player Cherry Skye wears her undies on the outside and her panties on her head. It's no wonder she's caught the eye of spunky Brad Blunt. Unfortunately she's also earned the ire of Brad's ex, Hell Grazer, a girl born to win and ready to skate over anything in her path to get what she wants. When romantic rivalries flare, the...

Me Tom (Christian Clemenson) identifies haematoma and a rib fracture on her Db. "Significant wound means a significant hit." Horatio (David Caruso) asks for Cod which he believes to be bleeding out internally, taking 150 pounds of pressure to break a rib. Intent was present which makes her death murder. Horatio asks what sort of weapon was used and Delko (Adam Rodriguez) thinks someone would have noticed a weapon. Not really since anything can be used. Horatio: "...it's called blunt-force trauma." Well that wasn't much of a one liner. Ryan (Jonathan Togo) tells Walter (Omar Miller) he hasn't been skating since Junior High. Walter calls "Roller derby real." Badass dames on roller skates? Malevolent supernatural forces? Roller Derby? Sounds like a winner to me. Director Daniel Armstrong’s upcoming web series “MurderDrome” looks like a violent good time to me, thanks in part to those aforementioned elements and the rockabilly-infused soundtrack. And while I’m generally not a fan of the web series format, I think I can overcome my prejudice to investigate this title when Armstrong and company finally start unleashing episodes. Last week we brought you up-to-speed on a zombie walk being organized in Hollywood to benefit local under-funded school districts (thanks, Governator). This week we go all the way across the country to Rosendale, New York, where the undead will again shuffle, limp and meander in the name of charity.
On Saturday, September 17th, beginning at noon, the Rosendale Zombie Festival will be celebrating all things undead and raising money for the Rosendale Food Pantry. The suggested donation is just $5 per attendee with all proceeds going directly to the Rosendale Food Pantry.
After a successful initial event last year, festival organizer Lara Hope is optimistic the second annual Rosendale Zombie Festival will eclipse the success of last year's happening. "Last year was gruesome," Hope said. "This year will tear your heart out."
The festivities kick off at noon with all zombies requested to gather in the Willow Kiln Park behind the Rosendale Theater.

Strongman Pictures Entertainment today announced that principal photography for the Roller Derby, supernatural horror slasher, MurderDrome, began today in Melbourne. Granted a Roller Derby isn’t exactly the first venue that comes to mind to conjure up images of Love, death and splatter filled revenge - but director Daniel Armstrong promises the Murderdrome will “follow the perils of a team of Roller Derby players hunted by the demon ghost of a vengeful murderess... and it’s all on skates." A tough sell maybe, until you consider Freddie Kruger or Leatherface have got nothing on the horror front, compared to a (eeeaaasy ladies) woman scorned. MurderDrome is expected to go into post production in October this year and be released as a 5 part web series, distributed entirely free online via Strongman’s YouTube channel. Subscribe now to catch every episode and while we wait check out all the charactera over on the films Facebook page.

Principle photography has begun in Melbourne, Australia for the supernatural slasher, Murderdome, directed by Daniel Armstrong. The Roller Derby slasher, I like the sound of that, has two new stills from Arrow and a plot synopsis:
Like any good Roller Derby player Cherry Skye wears her undies on the outside and her panties on her head. It’s no wonder she’s caught the eye of spunky Brad Brad. Unfortunately she’s also earned the ire of Brad’s ex, Hell Grazer, a girl born to win and ready to skate over anything in her path to get what she wants.
When romantic rivalries flare up the conflict rolls onto the streets and awakens the malevolent demon-spirit of a murderess. Suddenly Skye is sprinting towards the MurderDrome at breakneck speed, pursued by supernatural evil and the wrath of a lover scorned.
Welcome to The MurderDrome. It’s not a game anymore…...

Leave it to Oprah Winfrey to use a "Where are they now?" show to set off a fashion trend.
Friday (Jan. 28), Oprah revisited some of the most memorable couples who have appeared on her show over the years, including Trina Marr whose husband Trevor was obsessed back in 2004 with the fact that she had gained weight.
While happy that Trina walked off the stage back then, dumped the husband and then dumped the weight (thanks to Roller Derby), Oprah was a bit distracted by the sparkly pieces of tinsel in Trina's hair. Oprah said she wanted some for herself and Trina replied that she could help her out because she just so happens that she owns the company -- Hair Flairs -- that produces them.
A double high-five followed.
Let's hope Oprah was just being nice because nothing says "stripper" like sparkly hair highlights (we don't care if Beyonce wears them). Ok,...

"Robert Kaylor's 1971 documentary Derby is a quintessential movie about the American dream," writes Michael Joshua Rowin for Artforum. "The film centers on a young factory worker, Michael Robert Snell, and his pursuit of stardom on the professional roller derby circuit, but due to the proclivities of its eccentric subject — a handsome, 23-year-old husband and father of two who has not outgrown his wild adolescence — Derby is also a movie about harsh American realities. Since we never know whether Snell makes it, Kaylor's movie emphasizes the process of personal transformation rather than the goal of that transformation, and in so doing confronts the viewer with the sadness of a reinvention more deluded than courageous."...

At the ripe old age of 23, she has already garnered an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. However, for many of her fans in her native Canada, celebrity actress Page’s role in Whip It has spurred a renewed popularity in the sport of roller derby, a sport that allows Canadians access to health and fitness all year. On Saturday Nov. 13, the Toronto Roller Derby League (ToRD) will be holding their house league championship tournament, at the Hanger in Downview Park in Toronto. The tournament sold out in minutes, however disappointed fans will be able to view the event on Rogers Cable on December 4. It may be the first time roller derby has ever been broadcast nationally in Canada, and the sport...
