Ride, Ryder, Ride! (1949) Poster

Emmett Lynn: Buckskin Blodgett

Quotes

  • [despite his gunshot wound, Red insists on investigating what he believes was a rigged duel]

Buckskin Blodgett : I ain't a big enough fool to be callin' you a fool, Red, but only a fool would be foolish enough to be doin' the fool things that you are doin'.

  • [last lines]

The Duchess (Red's Aunt) : [reading newspaper headline]  "Hotelkeeper Indicted for Manslaughter". Now that there's a real story you got for the paper, Red.

Libby Brooks : You know, if I had one story a week like that, I could retire in two years.

Red Ryder : Well, wait a minute, Libby. You're too young to talk about retiring. Now you take Buckskin there...

The Duchess (Red's Aunt) : Well, who would want him?

Buckskin Blodgett : [reaching for his hat while sprawled on the ground]  Well, come here - come here...

The Duchess (Red's Aunt) : Buckskin, pick it up!

Buckskin Blodgett : Well, what do you think I've been trying to do for the last hour and a half.

[Thunder picks up Buckskin's hat with his teeth]

Buckskin Blodgett : Ah, ha, ha. Much obliged there, Thunder. Now there, there is the only real gentleman in the house.

  • The Duchess (Red's Aunt) : [to Red]  Why you waste breath on that big-mouthed, bat-brained, blabberin' booby I'll never know.

Buckskin Blodgett : Hey, now just a minute... just a minute. Now, just who do you think you're callin' a booby?

The Duchess (Red's Aunt) : You, you booby!

Buckskin Blodgett : Let me tell you somethin' Listen, you old saddle-blister, I wanna tell you somethin'. I have got more brains in that one little bitty ol' finger than I have in my whole head!

Red Ryder : What was that again, Buckskin?

Buckskin Blodgett : I was tellin' this ol' whelp, I've got more brains in this little ol' finger than I have... Wait a minute, that doesn't sound right, does it?

The Duchess (Red's Aunt) : [laughing]  You know, that sounds right. It's the gospel truth!

  • [first lines]

[after a long chase, Red ropes a wayward calf]

Buckskin Blodgett : Well, nice little longhorn. Red, your sure did rope that critter and in good fashion, too.

Red Ryder : You starting to get the idea, Little Beaver? You see, son, you just try to drop the loop over the calf's head. It's easy to do once you've had the practice.

Little Beaver : Me practice, you betchum.

  • [referring to the near gunfight and street brawl that just occurred]

Red Ryder : Now, what was that all about?

[handing Red the latest edition of the town's newspaper]

Little Beaver : Here, Red Ryder. Me find-um - this make-um trouble.

Red Ryder : Gerry, don't you know better than to make unsupported accusations like that?

Gerry Brooks : Unsupported? Why, ever since Frenchy Beaumont opened up that hotel, Devil's Hole has been worsening...

Red Ryder : Now look, Gerry, already three of Devil's Hole's most solid citizens have lost their lives to Frenchy in a fair gunfight. Are you aimin' to be next?

Gerry Brooks : Do you call those murders fair, gunnin' them down the way he did?

Buckskin Blodgett : Well, nooses to neckties, he didn't shoot 'em in the back, did he? They were all shootin' at the same time, wasn't they? They were facin' each other, weren't they, in one of them duels that Frenchy insists on fightin'?

Red Ryder : You know, you got a break today when he just sent that vulture of his after you. That should be a lesson. Well, I'll be seein' you, Gerry - I hope.

  • Red Ryder : How'd you like to ride into Devil's Hole with me?

Buckskin Blodgett : Why sure, let's go to town. Today's the day that the News Bulletin comes out.

Red Ryder : Why are you so all-fired anxious to see that newspaper? Do you read "Harriet's Hints to the Heartbroken"?

Buckskin Blodgett : Well, naturally... uh, say you-you don't?

Little Beaver : Ha-ha. Buckskin couldn't snap up faster than you trip-um steer, Red Ryder.

Red Ryder : Well, if that's all that's been goin' on around Devil's Hole lately, that newspaper should make pretty interesting reading.
