[Youtube "owOr6zDP8rM"] The story of Jesus' last hours has never been told quite like this. "The Passion is the story of Christ told in the last hours of his life all through the streets of my hometown, New Orleans," Tyler Perry says of the live television event that he will narrate and host on March 20 on Fox. "However it is told in modern-day times," Perry continues in a preview clip exclusive to People. "It gives the viewer an opportunity to see the Word wrapped in flesh and wrapped in life that everyone will understand and I think it's something that the whole family will see.

The story of Jesus Christ is perhaps one of the most interesting stories in history, yet not many films decide to tackle the topic. As producer/co-star Roma Downey told us, it’s been 10 years since Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. That’s part of the reason why Downey and fellow producer Mark Burnett decided to bring this beautiful tale to the big screen once more in Son of God, an upcoming biblical epic from 20th Century Fox.
If Downey and Burnett’s names sound familiar, it’s because the duo previously gave us The Bible, a miniseries that aired back in March 2013 on the History channel. Son of God will be adapted from The Bible and feature certain selections of the 10-part miniseries as well as deleted scenes that didn’t make it into the final cut.

As the world's biggest, oldest, most influential and perhaps most colourful institution of any kind, the Catholic church has surely merited more attention than cinema has accorded it. Angels & Demons and Habemus Papam gave a hint of the possibilities, and that somewhat minor branch of pastoral activity, exorcism, has been more than adequately explored. Otherwise, we've had saintly but boring priests such as those of The Bells of St Mary's and Angels with Dirty Faces or absurdly delightful nuns like those in The Sound of Music and The Nun's Story.

"Could we, the sons of India, ever be able to see Indian images on screen?," wondered Dhundiraj Govind Phalke as he saw a French film, "The Life of Christ". Gripped by nationalistic fervour, Phalke, better known as Dada Saheb Phalke, went on to make in his own words the country's first "swadeshi" (indigenous) feature-length film, "Raja Harishchandra", which was released in May 3, 1913.
A century later, Indians not only make the highest number of films that are seen and adored beyond the subcontinent and the diaspora, but also appeal to people from diverse social and cultural worlds. Indian cinema is an essential element of the country's soft power, a significant resource for its public diplomacy.

Of 22 films in competition at Cannes last year, none had been directed by a woman, but there are signs the tide is turning
La Mostra del Cinema, the most venerable of international film festivals which opens today in Venice, and its new head, Alberto Barbera, seem to have got the message. What message? The one sent by dismayed festival-goers to Cannes last May upon discovering that out of 22 films in competition, none had been directed by a woman.
There was no need to be a hardcore feminist to feel a little troubled, especially when the newly elected French president François Hollande announced a perfectly gender balanced government on the very day the Cannes film festival opened: 17 female ministers and 17 male ministers.
One doesn't necessarily have to agree with French feminist groupuscules such as La Barbe (I often don't), but had it not been for their public brouhaha about Cannes' lack...

Justin Bieber got touchy feely with his girlfriend Selena Gomez when he made his way to the National Building Museum in Washington, DC over the weekend. The teen singer was seen sneakily grabbing her backside when heading to the building to rehearse his upcoming performance at "Christmas in Washington" concert.
Bieber wore a gray sweater with black and red strips, a pair of dark jeans and sneakers. Completing his look with a beanie, the Canadian star clutched a bottle of mineral water in one hand and a cell phone in another. Selena, meanwhile, kept herself warm in a long-sleeved jacket, jeans and knee-length heeled boots.
The concert was held one day after the rehearsal. The "Fa La La" singer suited up when performing in front of President Barack Obama and his family at the holiday gig which benefits the Children's National Medical Center. He was joined by the likes of Cee-Lo Green,...

The story of Jesus Christ may once again be told on the big screen. According to Variety, Chris Columbus. 1492 Pictures and Cj Entertainment have acquired the rights to Rice.s book. Nicholas Ray may not have been the most obvious choice to direct a biopic on Jesus. Jesus may have been a rebel, but he did have a cause. The story of Jesus (Jeffrey Hunter) is given grand treatment in the Samuel Bronston production with direction by Nicholas Ray. Ray would be better known for Rebel Without a Cause and other socially conscious picture - so he might not have been the first director to pop into mind for the life of Christ. After all Cecil B. DeMille tackled the same subject matter in 1927 for his silent epic. Ray.s version does have him seem more like a matinee figure with the handsome Hunter in the role (Ben-Hur...

The French insistence on regarding cinema as art has helped produced formidable women directors. But is the next generation the most wide-ranging yet?
There's a feeling out there that France may be on the verge of another new wave: not of the politically radical 1950s kind, but one in which young, driven, women film-makers will be at the fore. Names being mentioned are Mia Hansen-Løve, Rebecca Zlotowski and Katell Quillévéré; their films have already electrified France and are beginning to spread elsewhere.
Of course, on one level, there is nothing unusual about French women film directors. From Agnès Varda to Claire Denis, Coline Serreau to Agnès Jaoui, women have been able to make their presence felt in French cinema. Nt Binh, film critic for the film magazine Positif, says: "It's not a wave but a deluge, one that has been going on for more than 50 years."

127 Hours (20th Century Fox) Harrowing true story of Aron Ralston (James Franco, in another fine turn), an extreme outdoorsman who finds himself trapped in a remote Utah canyon, his arm pinned between two boulders, with no help nearby, no communication to the outside world, and dim prospects for survival, to say the least. Director Danny Boyle manages to prove again that he’s one of the finest filmmakers working today by making a subject that is seemingly uncinematic a true example of pure cinema. Inventive, breathtaking, funny, and horrifying, often all at once. Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara make a memorable, brief appearance as hikers who connect with Ralston during his journey. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Boyle, producer Christian Colson, co-writer Simon Beaufoy; Deleted scenes; Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.

The 2009 Marathi film Harishchandrachi Factory, the debut film from veteran theatre director Paresh Mokashi ( and for which he has won a number of awards) was selected in September 2009 as India's entry in the Foreign Language Film category for the 82nd Academy Awards. The film is slated for an India-wide release on January 22, 2010. Promotion for the film has already begun: the film's website has been live for a while now, and there's also a Facebook fan page for the film. Recently Utv Motion Pictures (the film's distributor) sent out a different teaser trailer than the one found on the official site, one showing snippets of scenes from India’s first feature film, Raja Harishchandra(1913). Directed by D.G. (aka Dadasaheb) Phalke, (the father of Indian cinema), Raja Harishchandra was a silent film based on the legend of King Harishchandra (found in both the Ramayana and the Mahabharata).
