One of Halit Refig's best works... Despite being adapted from Orhan Kemal's novel of the same name, one of the most important achievements of the film, which tells the same story in a very different way, is that it brought Cüneyt Arkin to Turkish cinema and became the first Golden Orange winner.

The Mubi copy of the movie is a longer version than the copy available on Youtube.

Tanju Gürsu has shown an incredible acting as always.

A True Classic

Warning: Spoilers
I was astonished to see that there is only one review for this movie. That's why, I decided to write my first review on IMDB for this film.

The film depicts a family moving from countryside to Istanbul, which aims to set up a new business with their shoestring budget and open a new page in their life. It shows how people with rural values could easily be sucked into a whirlpool in a metropolis.

In the beginning of the film, they meet a guy in the ferry who also comes from countryside. He claims that he will be the King of Istanbul. During the film, this guy shows up at times by coming across family members accidentally. It perfectly portrays how people in their situation could earn their lives when they are hopeful, patient and keep working relentlessly. Everytime he sees a family member, he talks about his progress and accentuates that he should proceed stepwise.

If this movie was made in Hollywood, it would probably be deemed as a true classic and ranked in the top 250 in IMDB!
