The power of streaming services has allowed underrated TV shows like The Office and Breaking Bad to gain huge popularity years after their original air dates. Friends and How I Met Your Mother became even more popular after their endings, with fans still discussing their controversial finales today. Cult classics like Firefly and Freaks and Geeks have gained passionate followings through streaming services, proving that quality TV stands the test of time.
Although there are plenty of great TV shows, some of the very best either accumulated popularity in later seasons or didn't gain the attention they deserved until after they ended. Through the power of streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, binge-worthy TV shows are more accessible than ever before. As audiences were able to view older TV shows easily, tuning in as either new or existing viewers, these titles suddenly gained more attention years after the final credits rolled.

Tap, tap, tap it in! It might be time to grab a nine iron and wash your balls because, according to Shooter McGavin actor Christopher MacDonald, Adam Sandler is developing Happy Gilmore 2! During an interview with Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan, MacDonald said he recently spoke with Sandler, who surprised him with a script for the duo’s 1996 sports comedy.
“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,'” McDonald said. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”
Heh. Good luck keeping this out of the news, Mr. MacDonald. You’re right...

When she’s not earning laughs as the flighty but metamorphosing Summer Dutkowsky, the self-proclaimed “hot one” of Girls5eva, the real Busy Philipps — beloved actor, internet personality, and podcaster — has spent the past seven years building a reputation as the brutally honest one.
Around 2017, Philipps started chronicling her daily life on the then-nascent Instagram Stories, speaking directly into the camera with a confessional “Ok … You guys …,” followed by whatever might pop into her brain at any given moment. Not all TV shows get the endings they deserve, leaving audiences craving more from beloved characters and storylines. Series like Mindhunter, Firefly, and Freaks and Geeks were cut short, missing out on their full potential and fan satisfaction. Successful series like Game of Thrones also left viewers wanting more, with endings that didn't fully resolve character arcs.
There are several TV shows that have completed their runs that lack resolution in some form. Concluding a TV series is the most crucial step in solidifying its legacy, and, whether due to cancelation or a relatively ambiguous ending, some shows left the audience wanting more. That's not necessarily a bad thing. In the case of Succession, the ending was absolutely incredible, capping the HBO series off as one of the best TV series ever. Yet, given how fascinating the characters are, there still seems to be a lot that's unexplored.

David Krumholtz recently stated that he has various inside stories about Hollywood A-listers that would most probably destroy their career, but he has no intention of revealing such information. His statement has sparked some controversy over social media as many of his fans and followers are demanding a sneak peek at those stories, regardless of their credibility.
David Krumholtz’s name is like a stamp carrying entities across screens and he has occupied them for over three decades. His Santa Clause debut as Bernard the Elf, to his 2004 Emmy nomination as Lenny in The Sopranos, show his full potential as an actor. John Francis Daley and his writing/directing partner Jonathan Goldstein are not exactly what you might call household names just yet, although they've assuredly achieved "Oh neato, it's those two!" status. With writing credits on "Horrible Bosses" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming," plus their efforts as directors on "Game Night" and "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," Daley and Goldstein have cemented themselves as aficionados at merging cheeky humor with well-crafted action and wholehearted drama -- so much so that it's easy to forget Daley had a full-blooded acting career before he turned to filmmaking.
Fans of Paul Feig's "Freaks and Geeks" will recall that Daley played series lead Sam Weir on the cult classic teen dramedy series, kicking off his run as a television actor in the process. Freaks and Geeks featured many talented actors in small roles, including Matt Czuchry, Alexandra Breckenridge, and Kevin Corrigan. The show gained a cult following and is considered one of the best sitcoms of all time, thanks to its relatable and funny portrayal of high school life. Other notable actors who appeared on Freaks and Geeks include Rashida Jones, David Krumholtz, Shia Labeouf, Leslie Mann, Jason Schwartzman, Ann Dowd, and Ben Stiller.
While even super fans may not remember performers like Matt Czuchry in Freaks and Geeks, many famous actors played small roles in the cult teen comedy show. Freaks and Geeks was the shortlived NBC TV series created by Paul Feig and Judd Apatow about the students at William McKinley High School. David Gordon Green, the filmmaker behind Universal’s Halloween trilogy and The Exorcist: Believer, is leaving horror behind to direct a family drama starring Ben Stiller about a man connecting with his unruly nephews after a tragic accident claims their parents’ lives. The feature-length project is a hard left turn at Albuquerque for Green, who’s spent most of his recent filmmaker career bringing Halloween’s Michael Myers and William Peter Blatty’s Exorcist back to the horror fold. Is Green leaving horror for good, or is Nutcrackers a breath of fresh air before he returns to the bloody and brutal genre?
On Wednesday, Rivulet Films, Rough House Pictures, and Red Hour Films announced that Linda Cardellini, Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker, and Toby Huss have joined Ben Stiller in the film based on a script by Leland Douglas.

I was less than enthusiastic when I got the assignment to cover the prequel spin-off series of Ted instead of something avant-garde. Don’t get me wrong here; I do admire the original Ted film, which came out back in 2012. It was a pretty neat stoner-comedy (if you consider that a genre) about an adult man’s friendship with his talking teddy bear that was a decent entertainer. However, Ted 2 (2015), which had a wonky civil rights angle as its main plot, wasn’t quite able to yield the same magic for me. That was almost a decade ago. The idea of taking Ted and Johnny back to the nineties and making a seven-episode web series didn’t exactly look like a good prospect on paper, to be honest. Yeah, the adorable teddy bear talks like a man, and he has a fondness for profanity, but so what? That’s...

The moment you realize the impossibility of a teddy bear randomly starting to talk like a person, Ted becomes a regular teen drama show. And that’s exactly what works out in the show’s favor because it pretty much aces in all the departments. The comedy bits work out, and the jokes land really well, but it is the social commentary folded into the narrative that really takes the show to a new height. Unlike the movies, which were more slapstick comedies, this spinoff comes off as a rather wholesome comedy set in the nineties, that can actually challenge something untouchable like “Freaks and Geeks, and I am not even exaggerating.

Ted Lasso creators were surprised by Joy Behar's claim that she turned down a role in the show. Behar mentioned it would be too hot during filming and that she didn't feel the need to be in the show. The creators welcome Behar to join the show in future seasons.
The creators of Ted Lasso address a claim from a famous television host that she turned down an important season 3 role. In a season of television when Jason Sudeikis' titular Ted often felt more like a supporting character, he comes into focus for "Mom City." In the episode, Ted's mother Dottie shows up for an unexpected visit and things turn confrontational. Dottie is played by veteran actor Becky Ann Backer, but long-time co-host of The View, Joy Behar, recently stated that she turned down an offer to play Lasso's mom, feeling it would have been too hot during filming,...

Busy Philipps stopped by Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday to promote Mean Girls and the conversation briefly turned to … Britney Spears.
A fan asked via video, “What was your reaction when your bestie Michelle Williams told you she would be the narrator for Britney Spears’ memoir, and were you surprised at how viral her performance was?”
Phillipps started off by saying she’s been asked this on the red carpet and has turned the conversations back to Mean Girls, but she’d indulge this time because it was coming from a fan.
“We lost it,” Philipps remembers of Williams telling her about the opportunity. “She was like, ‘I have to do this, right? And I was like, ‘Yes!'”

For most performers, building up a resume of over 150 projects is something that takes an entire lifetime to achieve, but for James Franco that is a feat he has accomplished at just 45 years old. This Freaky Geek was catapulted to fame in one of biggest comic book franchises of all time before settling in to his role as a performer who can take on any genre and any film no matter how big or small. But with a tremendous rise at such a young age, sometimes you don’t make the best decisions. For Franco, those bad decisions would come to light on the very night of his greatest professional achievement and begin a downfall that is sadly all to common in today’s world. At one point putting out up to 12 projects a year, Franco has taken a backseat as allegations against him began to pile up. It is...

The Wire, Deadwood, and Fringe would likely find greater success with modern audiences due to their complex structures, relevant themes, and binge-watching culture. Ugly Betty and Nathan Barley were ahead of their time and would connect more with today's audience due to their examination of beauty standards and digital media obsession. Star Trek: The Original Series, Twin Peaks, Firefly, and Freaks and Geeks were underappreciated during their original runs but would thrive today with their progressive values and ability to resonate with viewers.
There are plenty of past television shows that, if they were to be released today, would become much more successful than when they originally aired. Television series don't always end on their own terms. Some of the greatest shows in the medium's history have been canceled due to low ratings before they could finish telling their overarching story or just as they were hitting their stride creatively. Some of the most egregious examples of series getting the axe before their time include "My So-Called Life," "Arrested Development," "Frank's Place," "Sports Night," "I'll Fly Away," "Deadwood," and "Mindhunters." It's possible no one has had a more brutal small-screen run than Judd Apatow, who, before he became a hit-making film producer, watched helplessly as three superb, critically acclaimed comedies — "The Ben Stiller Show," "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" — failed to earn a second season.
Sometimes, fan enthusiasm results in these works getting revived in some incarnation or another, and, unfortunately, the results are often unsightly. But at least there's a reason for going back. The same isn't...

New horror comedy There's Something in the Barn follows a family in Norway who must play by a barn elf's rules to survive their Christmas holiday. Martin Starr, known for his roles in Silicon Valley and Freaks and Geeks, leads the cast and was attracted to the film for its throwback horror movie vibes. The film was shot in Norway and Lithuania, with practical effects used for action sequences, and Starr enjoyed the positive and happy-go-lucky nature of his character.
New horror comedy, There’s Something in the Barn, is currently available to stream on Digital and follows a family who uproots to Norway once they inherit a family estate. Unbeknownst to his parents, Lucas befriends a vindictive barn elf and must play by his rules in order to keep the creature from lashing out. Episodic storytelling is what makes TV special and if you pay attention long enough, you begin to notice some patterns. Most TV pilots play like mini-movies that often end up quite tonally different from the rest of the series to come. Season finales naturally tend to be a show’s best effort of the year as they must satiate the audience for the long offseason. But what about all the episodes in-between? What episode numbers are consistently great?
We endeavored to find out.
Yes, what you’re about to read is not a list of the “Best TV Episodes of All Time” but the “Best TV Episode Numbers of All Time.” Numbers as in literally “episode 1, episode 2, episode 3, and so forth.” By taking a holistic view of the TV industry at large, we’ve determined which episode numbers are more likely to produce quality than others.
The challenges in figuring this out are obvious.

Brooklyn’s biggest horror film festival was back for another year of terrifying horror features from across the globe.
A strong mix of feature films, horror shorts, and revered genre classics were shown to sold-out audiences. There was even a sneak preview of Paramount+’s Stephen King prequel project, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, that once again proved to audiences that sometimes dead is, in fact, better. Some of the biggest movies to come out of 2023’s Brooklyn Horror Film Festival are already set to premiere on Shudder and Tubi, but the festival’s entire schedule should be mandatory viewing for curious genre fans.
Some of this year’s standout Bhff entries include Property, a Brazilian home invasion horror film that becomes a brutal deconstruction of class and status. Laborers revolt when they learn that their livelihood is being taken away from them, which confines their target to an armored car and progressively removes her options.

The early 2000s are a nostalgic time for television, whether audiences are watching shows like Friends or Gilmore Girls or sitting down for movies like Moulin Rouge! (2001) or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004). The shows that appeared on cable and primetime changed the future of television.
Even with all the good television, there were certainly some problematic moments on television in the '90s and 2000s. While no show is perfect, that are some that continue to hold up, even among higher scrutiny.

When sitcoms are incredibly successful, like That '70s Show or How I Met Your Mother, it seems like it's too tempting for networks to reboot them. However, most of the time, these reboots turn out to be failures. How I Met Your Father only lasted two seasons before it got canceled, while That '90s Show has received very harsh critiques so far.
Out of all the television genres, sitcoms are the hardest to reboot. This is because sitcoms captivate their audiences by creating a very peculiar vibe with interesting characters, a lovable cast, and unique writing. However, sitcoms like One Day at a Time and Girl Meets World have managed to come out successful. Still, some sitcoms shouldn't be rebooted, as it would be impossible to get them right.

We all think we know Seth Rogen. He’s the stoner king, the oversized kid fighting off adulthood, the comedy icon that Judd Apatow built almost from scratch after the two met just before the turn of the millennium on the set of the woefully short-lived NBC series “Freaks and Geeks.” Yes, Rogen is all these things, but to limit his influence strictly to his talents as a funnyman is to wrongly shortchange him. At the not-so-advanced age of 40, the actor who was born on April 15, 1982 in Vancouver, British Columbia is also a prolific writer and producer of product on screens big and small. He even co-wrote an episode of “The Simpsons.”
Moreover, the Rogen that audiences saw in “The Fabelmans” from director and co-writer Steven Spielberg bears little resemblance to the Rogen who entered the zeitgeist in such fun-loving, maturity-challenged raunchfests as “Superbad” and “Pineapple Express” more than a decade ago.

R. L. Stine’s spine-chilling “Goosebumps” book series holds a great deal of nostalgia and memorable spooks for ’90s kids and beyond, including executive producers Pavun Shetty and Conor Welch, who were determined to “elevate” the beloved novels with modern stories for a new generation through the new Disney+ and Hulu series.
“Connor and I grew up on the ‘Goosebumps’ books, and now that we’re adults, kids are reading them for the first time. While we’re looking back with a sense of nostalgia, they’re getting scared for the first time,” Shetty told TheWrap ahead of the series’ Friday the 13th premiere. “We knew we wanted to do something with these iconic stories and do an elevated take on them.”
With established fans and newcomers bringing distinct perspectives on the same material, the “Goosebumps” team — led by filmmakers and creators Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller — aimed to harness...

Today, Disney+ and Hulu unleashed a new take on R.L. Stine's beloved "Goosebumps" book series with a TV series adaptation developed by Rob Letterman (director of the 2015 "Goosebumps" movie) and Nicholas Stoller. Trust me when I say you'll want to give this series a chance, because it takes the scares to a more mature level than we've seen in previous "Goosebumps" adaptations and injects it with a refreshing and genuine teenage perspective, both in comedy and horror.
For those who maybe haven't been keeping up, the new "Goosebumps" series follows a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents' past.

The Norwegian holiday horror movie There’s Something in the Barn is heading toward a November 10th theatrical release, and one month out from that date we’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for the film! You can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Magnus Martens from a screenplay written by Aleksander Kirkwood Brown, There’s Something in the Barn is described as being “an ambitious artistic bridge between American classics and Norwegian mythology” that is like “Gremlins meets Home Alone meets National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation“. The story follows a typical American family who inherits a farm in the Norwegian mountains and crosses paths with a tricky creature from Nordic folklore, the Barn Elf. The family must avoid incurring the wrath of this gnome-like Santa by eschewing all bright lights and loud noises and making sure to leave a bowl of porridge on Christmas Eve.

Mindhunter captivated viewers with its in-depth exploration of the minds of serial criminals, leaving fans yearning for more despite its cancellation. Sense8 pioneered diversity and representation in its global storytelling, and its devoted following advocated for a wrap-up movie to answer season 2's cliffhangers. Firefly became a cult classic for its top-notch writing and merging of Western and sci-fi genres, and while it was canceled after one season, fans would welcome a reboot.
Some TV shows that have been long canceled still have an active fan base wanting their revival, refusing to let go of the hope that the show may one day rise from the ashes. From short-lived shows turned cult classics to more recent series that left the audience on cliffhangers, these shows span different genres and continue to dominate discussions online from loyal audiences. If you are a TV fan, you've no doubt had to deal with the premature loss of a favorite show. Before the streaming era, shows like My-So Called Life, Freaks and Geeks, and Pushing Daisies all ended before their time. Then along came Netflix, the ultimate heartbreaker. Did you enjoy that take on Daredevil? Too bad, it’s gone. Were you a fan of Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club? Sorry, it’s over -- go read the book. Were you impressed by Dark, so now you’re checking out 1899 because it’s made by the same people? I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’re not getting the answers to all of those questions the series asked. If you get involved with a Netflix series, you pretty much go in knowing the risks. You’re getting involved with a show that could break up with you at any moment,...

American Horror Story season 12 cast includes returning stars and controversial additions, with little known about the story or characters. Matt Czuchry joins the cast as Dexter Harding, Emma Roberts' character's husband, known for his roles in Gilmore Girls and The Resident. Kim Kardashian also joins the cast as Siobhan Walsh, with limited acting experience outside of reality TV, while Cara Delevingne, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Julie White, Debra Monk, Zachary Quinto, and Denis O'Hare also have undisclosed roles.
The American Horror Story season 12 cast includes a strong mix of returning stars as well as some popular, and — in one case — controversial addition to the cast. The new season is based on the Danielle Valentine novel Delicate Condition. The story shares many similarities Rosemary's Baby, and deals with themes of child loss during pregnancy. While it only lasted one season, Freaks and Geeks is considered one of the best teen shows of all time. Set in the '90s, the series follows Lindsay as she goes from the school nerd to a member of a group of freaks. At the same time, Lindsay's brother, Sam, starts his freshman year of high school and struggles to fit in.
Freaks and Geeks perfectly portrays the high school experience of this time. The show isn't only relatable, but it has hilarious moments and heartwarming scenes. Still, some episodes are more memorable than others, and these are the ones that the audience loved the most.

There’s Something in the Barn: Killer Christmas elf horror comedy from Dead Snow sold to big markets
A new tale of Christmas folklore is twisted into a paranoid mythical slasher story with There’s Something in the Barn. The production company, Charades, has just sold their horror comedy to major markets all over the world with multiple deals. The film comes from Norway filmmaker, Magnus Martens, who is a veteran TV director of series like Fear the Walking Dead and Luke Cage. 74 Entertainment and XYZ Films who have produced Dead Snow have also produced this film.

Patty Lin, a former TV writer whose credits include “Breaking Bad,” “Friends” and “Desperate Housewives,” has a problem with Hollywood’s lionization of so-called “auteur showrunners” — such as her former boss, Vince Gilligan.
Lin, in an interview with Salon after the release of her memoir detailing much of her career, put the blame for the “hero worship” of such writers and producers in meta terms. She said that this sort of creatives makes for a good story — and an easy one — versus the tediousness of a collaborative leader and team.
“This idea of everybody heralding the ‘auteur genius showrunner,’ we’ve got to get rid of that,” Lin said. “That sort of worship is part of the toxic culture in Hollywood. I think it makes a great story. It’s very simple and clean, and it’s not as shiny as a story about a bunch of people in a...

Comedy, as it turns out, is quite subjective. Folks have some strong opinions about what does and does not make them laugh. Thankfully, strong opinions are exactly what we’re looking for.

As a TV viewer, there is nothing as frustrating as becoming invested in a new series, just to have it cancelled in its prime – or sometimes even before it has a chance to reach its full potential.
For decades, the Big Three networks relied on Nielsen ratings when determining which shows survived for another season, and which would receive the axe. With the rise of streaming services, and the addition of numerous networks beyond the original Big Three, there are many more shows competing for viewership, with those viewers also having the ability to choose when to watch. Although the dynamics of viewership have changed, the same two primary elements typically determine the survival of a series: ratings and production costs.

Former TV writer Patty Lin recounts working with the Friends cast and writing staff wasn’t pleasant, and that her excitement at the opportunity to write for the sitcom wore out really fast.
Lin opens up about her writing stint at Friends in her tell-all memoir End Credits: How I Broke Up with Hollywood. She also dished to Time behind-the-scenes insight on the show’s creative writing process, which appeared to be anything but a walk in the park. Lin, now retired, has written for such popular shows as Desperate Housewives and Breaking Bad. She also worked on Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks very early in her career, a positive experience that left her hopeful when the offer to work at Friends came about.

In her new memoir, “End Credits: How I Broke Up with Hollywood,” former TV writer Patty Lin revealed that her time writing on Season 6 of “Friends” was marked by a cast who didn’t really want to be there.
They “seemed unhappy to be chained to a tired old show when they could be branching out,” Lin wrote of the sitcom’s ensemble, which included actors Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc. “I felt like they were constantly wondering how every given script would specifically serve them.”

According to one former television writer, working on “Friends” wasn’t all that friendly.
Patty Lin, whose credits include “Breaking Bad,” “Freaks and Geeks” and “Desperate Housewives,” opened up about her turbulent tenure on the juggernaut NBC sitcom in her upcoming memoir, “End Credits: How I Broke Up With Hollywood” (via Time).
“The ‘Friends’ writing staff was cliquey, more so than at any other show I would work on. They reminded me of the preppy rich kids in my high school who shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch and drove brand-new convertibles,” Lin wrote of her former co-workers.
Lin, who is Asian, joined “Friends” in its seventh season and was the only person of color in the writers room at the time. She wrote that she often struggled with “imposter syndrome” and “wondered whether I was hired for ‘Friends’ because of the diversity program or because I was the right person for the job.

The One Where the Cast Had No Constructive Criticism and Left a Writer Bitter About Working With Big-Time Celebs. As detailed in her upcoming book (excerpted in Time), “End Credits: How I Broke Up with Hollywood”, writer Patty Lin had more troubles with the Friends gang than Mr. Heckles, saying the core cast’s reactions to scripts were far from friendly.
Lin – who wrote season seven’s “The One with the Engagement Picture” and “The One Where Chandler Doesn’t Like Dogs” – said that when it came to script reactions, the Friends cast “rarely had anything positive to say, and when they brought up problems, they didn’t suggest feasible solutions. Seeing themselves as guardians of their characters, they often argued that they would never do or say such-and-such. That was occasionally helpful, but overall, these sessions had a dire, aggressive quality that lacked all the levity you’d expect...

The thought of writing for big stars like Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer is what excited Lin initially but she says that faded away quickly.
“The novelty of seeing Big Stars up close wore off fast, along with my zeal about breakfast. It's been an emotional summer for Busy Philipps. The mom of two has been gearing up to send her oldest child, Birdie, to boarding school in Sweden.
"I'm a mess already. It started to hit me this past month," the actor told Popsugar in late July. She's been documenting the process on social media, a place where her fans have come to love how relatable, funny, and outspoken she is - from her sing-along Instagram Stories to her poetic musings about motherhood.
"I'm really feeling the pangs right now that I think are relatable whether or not your kid is going to boarding school - your kids growing up and on their way to being young adults and their own humans," she continued. "And I'm just hoping and praying I did the right things and instilled the right values and that they know they always have a safe place to land.

Some unfinished television series are just as entertaining, or even better than, completed shows, despite their open ends. Shows like Hannibal and I Am Not Okay With This may have ended in cliffhangers, but they are still worth watching for their compelling storylines and strong performances. Despite their cancellations and unresolved plotlines, shows like My Name is Earl and Freaks and Geeks offer unique and nostalgic viewing experiences.
Endings are a tricky thing to get right, and while some television series are defined by their epic conclusions, other series lack a finale altogether, yet surprisingly, this doesn't take away from the show's goodness. In a world so saturated with TV and movies, it's not uncommon for series to get canceled before they reach their satisfying ending, however, that doesn't mean the show should go into obscurity.
