Silent murder!
uds331 October 2001
Very early murder mystery from Aussie director Barrett.

Herbert Bentley is Jack Cardigan, a prospector who has struck it rich in the New South Wales goldfields. He writes to his beloved Nora (played by Lilian Teece) telling her of his good fortune. Herbert entrusts delivery of the note to his friend Ralph Blackstone which proves to be a fatal error of judgment. Blackstone poisons him, hoping to assume ownership of the claim but unwittingly allows the letter to fall into Nora's hands. The young woman's suspicions are aroused and she determines to find out exactly what is going on. Blackstone's role is filled by Hilliard Vox, a popular if not prolific actor of the period!

The film was one of the more popular Australian productions of 1911. It was also distributed under the title LIFE UNDER THE SOUTHERN CROSS.
