Sex & Nudity

  • Mrs. Pilkington goes to Mr. Jones' room instead of her own. No nudity is shown, but the bed shakes and she giggles, saying "oh, Mr. J."

Violence & Gore

  • A main characters head is shown decapitated
  • The children in a carriage use a slingshot to hit the farm animals with debris.
  • After Old Major dies, he is obviously slaughtered. There is a large piece of raw (bloody) meat shown. Another farm hand attempts to give part of Old Major's bloody ribs to Jesse, but she refuses it.
  • During an attempt by men to get the farm back, men shoot a goose and pig, Boxer knocks out a man.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • During the scene at the beginning where Jones is plowing, he takes a drink from a large brown bottle, starts stumbling, and slurs his speech.
  • At the party Jones is throwing, his guests all drink liquor and even Pilkington says "a friendly drink."
  • Mr. Jones drinks during breakfast.
  • Jones and his farm hands drink at night after coming home from the bar, drinking from large brown bottles while watching TV.
  • After the unsuccessful attempt by the men to take back the farm, the carriage driver puts a cigarette in his mouth and starts looking for a light.
  • After listening to the broadcast from the farm, Jones has a cigarette in his hand while Pilkington talks to him.
  • When Pilkington comes to talk to Napoleon for the first time, he is smoking a cigar.
  • Pilkington gives Napoleon a bottle of whiskey. Napoleon drinks it from a large bowl throughout the rest of the movie.
  • Pilkington and the other men celebrate the trade arrangement in a bar, drinking.
  • Pigs have hangovers after drinking too much whiskey.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Much like the novel on which it is based, the film has an overall dark tone. (Deleted. Personal opinions about ratings are not appropriate for the Parents Guide.)
  • When Old Major gets shot, he falls from the barn onto the ground into a grotesque heap.
  • Animals stampede Jones and his men after breaking into the feed storage, chase them into a car and off the farm. Animals chant around a fire after successfully running the farmer off.
  • After breaking into the house, animals find the room where they butcher the animals. Several carcasses are hanging, one carcass is on the table with a knife and cleaver in it, Old Major's severed head is wrapped in plastic and kept on a shelf in a cabinet.
  • Puppies chase Snowball off the farm after Napoleon gives the command.
  • Old Major's skull is put on display for the entire farm, flies circulate around it.
  • When the pigs show the film they've made, they show animals being killed/hanged after being found guilty for criminal activity.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the most emotional scene of the film, Boxer is loaded up in a wagon that the animals are told is to take him to retire but they soon realize that it is from the glue factory and that Boxer is going to be slaughtered. Jessie tries to get Boxer to escape, but he is too old and tired and he gives up. Later, Squealer lies and says that Boxer had passed away peacefully.
