A Spider-Man story cut too early.
liamcorotted24 September 2022
I never write reviews, but I had to add my 2 cents to this show, btw this will be spoiler free. I've seen a few different Spider-Man shows while growing up, the amazing Spider-Man, spectacular Spider-Man ect, but nothing of that had this much ambition behind it. The story for this show was quiet unique and honestly quiet refreshing from what I've seen before. Like other reviews on this show, yes, it's plot had a few holes in it, but given another season or so, I believe this show could have really blossomed into something very memorable for the fans. New villains and old set in a alternative world of his own, Spider-Man had to overcome and adapt while keeping his identity hidden as always. I really enjoyed the 13 episodes we were blessed with, very nostalgic 90's colours, music and animation. Rip unlimited, hope it gets a revamp somewhere down the line.

Had potential: right place, wrong time

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS! i started watching this with a "MAN! IS THIS GONNA SUCK!" mentality. but in all honesty..it isn't as bad as i thought. now, this isn't to say that it is a masterpiece of Saturday morning cartooning. cause its not. it has a few small plot holes, its far-fetched, and the bad guys seem to think that dressing up like a rainbow is menacing. and venom and carnage.......what did they do to you???? however, the animation (besides the colors) is good, spiderman actually made me laugh from time to time, and the overall plot line, tho far-fetched, works. It deserved a second season...but i guess it couldn't stand up to pokemon. oh well, its good for what its worth.

Loved it when I was a kid, disappointed about the storyline now.
njsandham4 May 2013
I loved this show when I was younger, but now after doing a little research it comes to light that the original script for the show was supposed to be about a counter earth where Uncle Ben doesn't die and Spidey gives in to Venom because he doesn't question the morality of his choices anymore.

Why oh why couldn't they have done that instead of doing this whole bestial thing =/ which is alright per se but far less interesting and thought provoking as the original script.

In summary then a good cartoon with great visuals and music but let down by the script revision because Marvel said that it couldn't do a series that contained 2 Spider-Mans but now we have games like Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, plus I swear in the 90's Spider-Man cartoons they did an episode where there was a crossover of lots of different Spidey universes. Marvel you really missed the mark on something that could have been spectacular.

Just needed more of a chance
This cartoon bugged me a bit because it wasn't traditional but you can't live in the 70's or 50's forever. I think Spiderman's upgrades were cool and so was the theme music. If the series would've continued long enough, who knows what could've happened. Maybe he would've gone back to earth. Maybe its far fetched but this cartoon wasn't that bad. Another important factor is that monster rancher and pokemon were and probably still are dominating the air waves, which is why I appreciated this new spiderman series even more!

"To be Continued?"
mkurland2328 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This show does have a few things that one would rather forget, as well as a few welcome additions like Spider-Man's new threads. However, just like the 1994 animated series, this show ended with a cliffhanger leaving what happened next up for debate. If I was working on this show, I would have at least given it a proper conclusion and brought Spider-Man back to his own Earth and back to Mary Jane.

Not as good as I remember but still fun
myhendrys3 February 2021
I remember watching this a lot when I was younger and I loved it I like the suit the intro and the futuristic setting but I rewatched this and it was not as good as I remember. I used to like it a lot and now that i watch it I didn't enjoy as much as I did. There was a long the felt boring but I still enjoy watching it. I hated that the show ended on a huge cliffhanger which absolutely sucks and it's disappointing.

Spider-man on another planet
stefanozucchelli21 January 2022
This time, Spider-Man is catapulted into another dimension and confronts never-before-seen enemies as he tries to find a way back home. The premise is interesting and allows us to analyze some issues such as racism, discrimination and pain. It is a pity that the series was never finished and resolved incomplete.

An alternate universe fan-fiction of Spider-Man, He-Man, and Thundercats.
shaunsingh146 June 2014
In 1999, DC and Marvel ended up releasing two futuristic sequels to their much beloved TV shows, Spider-Man and Batman: The Animated Series. DC released the lauded cyberpunk classic Batman Beyond, which is also the third instalment of the DC animated universe. On the other hand, Marvel ended up releasing Spider-Man Unlimited, an implied sequel to the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon (it's never explicitly stated). Unlike Batman Beyond, SMU ended up bombing in ratings and in reception.

Initially, SMU was supposed to be a Spider-Man 2099 adaptation, but that idea was canned in favour of... this which still ended up taking a lot of elements from Spider-Man 2099 (like the costume and futuristic setting). I just want to know what kind of mind-altering drugs that the staff were on when they came up with the very concept: Peter Parker wearing a Spider-Man suit made out of nanotechnology travelling to an alternate dimension ruled by the High Evolutionary and half-human/half-beast creatures populate the Earth all the while Venom and Carnage, two mortal enemies are working side-by-side under the orders of something called "the synoptic."

This could've worked out, if this show didn't have Spider-Man's name tacked onto it. Why not use a different Marvel hero/group like the Guardians of the Galaxy? Better yet, why not create an original superhero for this? Why even bother canning the Spider-Man 2099 idea in the first place? Miguel O'Hara would've made an excellent counter on Marvel's part to DC's Terry McGinnis and considering the fact that barely anyone outside of devout Spidey fans have even heard of SM2099, it would've allowed for more people to discover it and it could've been just as successful, if not more successful than Peter Parker's Spider-Man. Alack, another story of what could've been.

awesome cyberpunk story
dazedandconfusedgrunge3 October 2013
great atmosphere, it has this noir-scyfi-cyberpunk story and art very well made, even the music transport you to this kind of dystopian future. one of , in my opinion, most memorable spiderman versions. the story is darker than the usual cartoons and is very mature.

10/10 for the artists and the writers

also it has some kind of social critic "animals (in this case "bestials") doing experiments on humans" now how it looks unethical? what that makes you remember? the supporting characthers have great stories besides them , git hoskins, the green globin, dr.naoko... all with their very own personalities and mysterious pasts. this story absorbs you with the narrating ,the music , and distopyan scenario.

Swinging into the sci-fi world
hellraiser714 September 2022
This is another in my "under the radar" series and another lost Marvel visual gem. Putting Spider Man into the sci-fi realm I thought is a cool idea, well actually "Spider Man" is a sci-fi series but its foot was more into the action genre and was in a modern day setting, in this show they wanted to swing the web slinger in a new setting which is in the future or an alternative future world. It made sense going this direction as other comic heroes were pulled off the same move from The Phantom with "Phantom 2040" and Batman with "Batman Beyond" unfortunately lighting didn't quite strike a third time.

This show kind of swung under the radar probably because of the confusion this inadvertently caused. The fact this show wasn't based on the "Spider Man 2099" which would have been awesome, let alone this was a standalone show and not a sequel. But the main reason I feel this show wasn't as successful as any other Marvel visual properties is it was another victim of bad timing, as this show came out in the twilight years of "Fox Kids" which unfortunately means a lot of show become overlooked like "Silver Surfer" another under the radar gem and a story for another time.

The animation is very solid, it looks like it has improved and evolved from the animation of its predecessor. Really like the use of black and dark blues which really help give the show a cyber noir feel, but also contribute to the dark direction of the show. We see a world that is technologically advanced but it's dirty and grimy and worst of all under some totalitarian rule which is part of why things are the way they are as resources are being controlled.

The action in the show is solid it's well choreographed, "Spider Man" still does his thing, but his suit has technological abilities which sort of predate the suit he had in the recent "Spider Man" live action films with Tom Holland. His suit can do theoretic camouflage but also can change to certain different modes when needed. I even like the story format of the show which was different as it had a ongoing plotline that constantly developed which was also different from the original 90's show. Not to say that show didn't have development but only in characters and arcs, this show is different as it' s a little more plot driven. Which was something different and wasn't all that common not just in animated shows but live action TV until years latter with shows like "24".

Music is decent it's nothing memorable, it's ok it's fits the show fine and really helps in getting things moving. And there is a pretty good voice cast with some familiar ones you probably know of. One of them of course is Rino Romano who is an honorable mention in favorite voice actors. This is the first of the major superheroes he voiced, of course it wasn't the last as he did "Batman" in the TV show "The Batman" years latter another underrated gem and story for another time.

I thought he was solid in the Peter Parker/Spider Man role as he had that same energy, enthusiasm, and even weighty thinking to him that of course Peter Parker/Spider Man was known for. He's even more sympathetic than before as he's trapped in an alien world, he never asked to go to in the first place which of course makes him a fish out of water. As we see he's forced into adapting, living, and surviving on this world until he finds an opportunity back.

Of course, you can say it was fate that brought him to this world as he is meant to help restore balance before mankind truly become extinct, which of course ups the stakes but also means Spidey's in for a long fight. Even like how we sometimes get some flashbacks with him and MJ and the times together they have and how distant they are now, which really ads to the sympathy factor and even more makes us want Peter/Spider Man to win.

The only weaknesses for the show are the supporting players aren't really that memorable along with some of the villains. They're not bad but it feels their all kind of two dimensional and lack a certain amount of depth.

I also wish that Mary Jane Watson was in the show which I feel would have given Peter/Spider Man a character dynamic he can bounce off, but also would have helped reassure us that despite how much has changed things are still the same in a way. It was also a bit of a lost opportunity because she could have contributed to the show as well, like giving her a spider man suit and kicking butt alongside Peter/Spider Man in that world. I know a long shot (not really considering what happened in the comic series latter on) but a shot all the same, one that just got missed.

However, the biggest problem is the same fundamental problem "G. I. Joe the Movie" (story for another time) has which is the plotline that mainly out of place. The plotline isn't bad (at least I didn't think so) could almost be like a sequel to "The Island of Doctor Monroe" only it's a dystopian society that resulted and humans are becoming the endangered species.

It's really a cool concept which would have worked as its own show. This could of easily of been a show based on Marvel's Multiverse where it could have been renamed "Counter Earth" without "Spider Man" and focused on the resistance taking back the Earth and through this war we could explore more of this "Counter Earth", clues on how it came to be and how different it is from the one from Marvel and probably have alternate versions of Marvel characters appear. But of course, that didn't happen and that alone would have been a tough sell altogether; so, oh well I'll take what I can get.

Overall, I like this show, it's one of the good "Spider Man" animated shows in my book, if low on the list. It would be awesome to have another "Spider Man" animated show in a future setting but I'm thinking this could happen two ways one we can make it where Peter and Mary Jane's daughter (May or Anne Parker from the comic series) are carrying the touch in the future world; or have an animated adaptation of the "Spider Man 2099" series. Either option is fine with me though I know probably might not happen but still thoughts to consider, and all the same "Spider Man" in the animated series area could use something new.

So, if you're a "Spider Man" fan and looking for more animated treasures in the franchises web this is one worth a swing.

Rating: 3 stars.

Spider-Man Limited
WeAreLive3 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have recently just finished watching this show and I am not really impressed at all. Here is some word of advice watch Spiderman 1994, The new Spiderman adventures, Spectacular Spiderman, Ultimate Spiderman or the new Marvels Spiderman instead you will be glad you did. Okay, so Spider-Man arrives at this earth where there is for some reason animal people and regular humans living on the same earth but on separate sides that is all controlled by the High Evolution (who for some reason is a regular human instead of a robotic type of character) and John Jameson who is from the same earth as Spider-Man is with the rebels. Peter meets this woman called Naoko I can't tell if she is Chinese, Japanese or Korean and her son called Shayne the black kid. In later episodes we see Eddie being separated from the Symbiote and we see Venom and Carnage become this monster thing. The last episode the Rebles get captured by the High evolution to kill all the humans. I don't know anything about the Tony the tiger guy's statues whether if he is good or bad. Final moment we see a gold symbiote rise from the surface and that's the end of the whole series.

Major Plot twists it turns out that the Green Goblin is the husband and father of Naoko and Shayne, Daniel had a brother who was working for the bad people and ends up getting eaten up by Shark men and it turned out that Karen was the High Evolutionary granddaughter.

Green Goblin speaks in a new york accent and has a weird design, the Vulture is some hipster, Kraven the hunter is just addressed as The Hunter and doesn't even have the accent and don't get me started about his design horrible attempt. Carnage has a skeleton like body with bones coming out from his shoulders and for some reason his voice sounds too much like Venom and Electro is an eel or a wheesal?

The problems I have with this show is just too much for a Spider-Man cartoon, their are too many flashbacks of each Rebels and past events of the previous show on to of that too much family facade. But I can't say it is all bad because it had a cool theme song and the voice actor of Rino Romano and Brian Drummond as Spider-Man and Venom were both good.

If this was a continuation of Spiderman 1994 why were the voice actors changed and why is the animation honestly I would have preferred another season of that show instead because the last season was a let down and there was so many questions and plots to be answered and finish. But they had to make this mess and leave it at the same stage as the previous one.

What was Saban thinking when he decided to change is suit? If he ended the series with "Too be continued" at least give us a final episode but we can't now because of the Disney and Marvel merge on top of that Sony and Saban have the licenses to this show. People are fighting for their so called precious Spectacular Spider-Man (which is also better then this) to come back but not this show. I am just glad I have still got the current Spider-Man show Marvel's Spider-Man and I am looking second season to recover from this abomination. This Spider-Man show will never be as good as the newer one. Better plots, storylines, character designs voice actors and animation/art style.

My final word Do not watch!

Symbiote failure
dpustay8 October 2020
I was really excited when I saw a blue and red sludge substance. I got disappointed quickly. Awful voice acting and even worse lines with the most awful appearance. Venom was decent but Carnage looked liked a blood stain on a maxi pad. Spider-Man has an electrical suit that used sound to beat them every time. Until they find some green sludge must be trash in the city...? Anyways back to the suit has some kind of web cape it looks ridiculous. Did not keep my interest or my three kids.

Interesting a whole new twist of Spider-Man!
SonicStuart21 May 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I thought Spider-Man Unlimited was pretty neat especially with the brand new Spider-Man high-tech costume that not only has web-shooters but also has spider tracers, stealth mode and invisible mode and some other tricks up Spidey's new costume. This show continues where the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon left off in the two part pilot episode Worlds Apart. Where Jonah Jameson's son, John Jameson, was about to get on the shuttle to go discover a planet called Counter Earth which was his space mission. But once John Jameson's ship was about to launch Venom and Carnage were about to hijack the ship and Spider-Man tries to stop them! But then they end up on Counter Earth which is a planet where they have people that are half human and half beast controlled by The High Evolutionary! Spider-Man and John Jameson work together along with these other rebellious freedom fighters to fight The Knights of Wundagore and High Evolutionary! There is one things I was amazed my this show is that Green Goblin is one of the freedom fighters! When I saw that I asked myself why did Green Goblin turn good? But I thought it was cool anyway. I wish there was some computer animation in this one just like in the 1994 cartoon. But still the animation wasn't too bad. Plus I thought some of the voices and lines needed to be improved like I didn't like Green Goblin's voice in this series and Rino Romano as Spider-Man/Peter Parker was okay but he could have done a little better and all the others I think are just fine. The show deserved more then 13 episodes, it should of had the same number of episodes the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon had. This show was one of my favorite Fox Kids shows! I think that Karen O'Malley is hot! I remember in 1999 after 3 episodes when this show first came on, it got canceled due to the fact that it was having a tough battle against Kids WB's Pokemon. But then the show returned in late 2000 and re-aired the first three episodes of Season 1 and then continued to air the rest of the 10 of the 13 episodes that Fox Kids had ordered and then the show was left on a cliffhanger! Although the series ended on a cliffhanger, an outline for the second season of 13 episodes was created and 6 scripts were produced, but never animated. Further episodes of the series would have taken Spidey on solo adventures after he helped the rebels end the war with the High Evolutionary to restore peace to Counter Earth and then Spider-Man would have returned to Earth.

User Rating: 8/10

BOTTOM LINE: THIS SHOW DESERVED MORE THAN 1 SEASON!

I don't have unlimited f**ks to give about this s**t show
dylan_jozef26 August 2013
Wow, what were they thinking?! We're not even in the first minute of this 'show' when they make their first f**k up. Spider-Mans spider-sense goes off from Venom and Carnage. Did the idiot 'writers' of this show just forget that Peter's spider- sense doesn't register Venom and Carnage as a threat?

The first 13 minutes of the episode one are great. It actually seems like a real Spider-Man show. Spider-Man fights Venom and Carnage on the side of a shuttle, saves a woman from a burning building in New York and even contemplates continuing as Spider-Man. It's good stuff.

But then they go ahead and f**k it all up, when Spider-Man space travels to another alternate earth inhabited by humanoid animals and robots. Yeah I am not joking that is the plot for show. The themes are just f**king weird; space travel, alternate Earth's and humanoid animals are not f**king Spider-Man.

The story is s**t, the robot and animal villains are generic and uninspired like something you'd expect from f**king Thunder-Cats or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, not Spider-Man.

What did I like? well the music intro theme is awesome. I loved it. The animation is amazing, I was honestly surprised, watch it in HD 1080 I think you'll be too . It looked even better then its predecessor Spider-Man TAS. It's too bad everything is now in that s**ty CG style now.

The voices are okay, J Jonah Jameson wasn't the best, he sounded like the poor mans version of Jameson from TAS. Rino Ramano killed it as Spider- Man. He was so good he even reprised his role in the two fantastic Playstation One games, too bad his voice talent was wasted on this heap of s**t.

Bottom line: stay away, far away. The plot holes are deeper than the Mariana Trench. The story is pathetic, it is nowhere near even remotely related to Spider-Man and his 50 years of history. Watch it only for the intro, animation, Ramano's voice work and the cool nano-tech suit. Other than that stay the f**k away from it. Watch out of your own curiosity or risk...

Underrated - the coolest Venom and Carnage have ever been
nkimbrell-153019 January 2022
With The High Evolutionary set to appear in GOTG3, I figured it was time to give this series a shot. I was so pleasantly surprised. A lot has been said about the show's animation and designs, and to be completely honest, I think this show is way prettier than TAS. ITS GORGEOUS! The shadows and general colors of the show work fantastically.

Unpopular opinion, but this version of Venom and Carnage are my favorite of all adaptations I've seen. They are terrifying! Great designs.

Very underrated show, with great voice acting from Rino Romano (who later played Batman). Highly recommended! But be prepared, the show is not what you would expect from a Spider-Man show. It's very unique, but if you can appreciate it for what it is, it's so enjoyable.

Spidey's outfit is cool and the first episode and theme tune are decent, but all there is in regard to this show...
TheLittleSongbird23 September 2012
I like Spider-Man a great deal, I do like the first two movies(the third not so much) and the 2003 show and I love the 90s series(haven't seen the 60s series in years though), but I have never liked Spider-Man Unlimited. I do think that Spider-Man's outfit is very cool if different, the theme tune is well done and the show does show a decent- and promising if done right- start. Unfortunately, what it promised in the first episode is not done right afterwards. The concept of putting Spider-Man on Counter-Earth just doesn't make sense to me, and the story lines generally do not engage, I found myself frustrated by its predictability and lack of sense. The writing is incredibly corny, especially with Spider-Man's "witty" quips. The characters I don't care much for, I actually found myself wondering what the point of Carnage and Venom was. Spider-Man himself is not charismatic enough and I really could have done with less of the wisecracks, while Peter Parker is just dull here. The voice acting is also lacking, Rino Romano does what he can but he could have been much more brooding, but the worst case was the laughably bad accent for the Green Goblin. The background music is over-bearing in alternative to the haunting style that you kind of expect. But other than the senseless concept and story lines the worst asset of Spider-Man Unlimited was the animation. The character designs for the animals and the villains, especially Carnage and Vemom, are just ridiculous that it hurts, and the colours are too many and too bright with not that much atmosphere evident. All in all, liked the outfit, the theme tune and the first episode, but everything else is incredibly disappointing, to me that is. 3/10 Bethany Cox

Finaly Saban has done something RIGHT
Jedi24 November 1999
For the first time since the first "Spider-man" cartoon. Saban has actualy doen a seriers right. In this , Peter Parker/Spider-Man, finds himself traveling to alternate Earth to save a sapce traveler. Only to find himself caught up in a intersteller war. Great animation, and a decent story line power this Spidey saga,

Good cartoon, not so great Spider-Man
dtm66613 January 2001
Spider-Man Unlimited is a good show on its own... good original storylines, decent animation, but it's not the Spider-Man I know from reading the comics.

While there are some familiar faces, they don't always show their face, leaving our poor webhead to make friends with some new faces, who vaguely resemble some characters from the comics.

I'm not going to bash this cartoon because it doesn't follow the roots of which it came from. It's a good show, but it would have been a better show if Spidey ditched the hi-tech crap and stuck with his basic web shooters and proportionate spider strength.

The 1995 cartoon was better
Op_Prime4 January 2000
Spider-Man Unlimited is an okay show but compared to the previous Fox Kids show that started back in 1995, it sucks. The show before was true to the comics. They may have bended them a little, but it was the same old costume and same villians. This show lacks the magic that made the other series so special. The costume is kind of cool and the story line is original and inventive, but I'll take Spider-Man (1995) over this any day.

What a Pile of S**t
fenix13726 May 2002
I'd hadn't seen the show until this morning on ABC Family when I caught the first episode. People had told me it was bad, but I didn't think it was the steaming mess it was.

In a nutshell, Spider-Man goes space truckin' to a counter-Earth to save J. Johan Jameson's astronaut son and hunt down Venom and Carnage. Why Spider-Man would want to hunt down Venom and Carnage after they actively leave the 'real' Earth of their own free will is beyond me. Anyway, this counter-Earth is full of animal/human hybrids like goat men and rat women (cause it ties into the whole *Spider* man thing. eh? eh?).

The animation is better than some shows, but the artists seem to want to have every color in the rainbow in every frame of animation. This only leads to a big, bright mess. The character designs are laughable. The new spider suit is cribbed from the Spider-Man 2099 costume. Venom and Carnage can turn into demon-like monsters or glatinous piles of goo. These two were human last time I checked. The animal people are just plain silly.

Animal people? Space travel? A nanite-based spider suit? I wonder if the reason Stan Lee's name appears nowhere in the credits is because he was the only person to realize that this show isn't what Spider-Man's about? This show seems to mimic the reinvention of Batman a la the WB's 'Batman Beyond.' It fails miserably. The Spider-Man movie's in theaters if you want to see your down-on-his-luck, wise-cracking, Aunt-May-wheatcake-lovin' webslinger. Skip this show unless you're looking for a laugh.

the only thing Saban did right was to can the show
gveillette3 October 2000
This show is utter c**p, with a cliché storyline and without the best of spiderman: his duality and his moral decisions.

Plus suddenly Venom and Carnage turned into ridiculous stooge-like idiots. And now they morph like the T-1000 does. Wow.

Pretty Poor
cougar1826 February 2003
As with alot of people, I liked the first episode of this show, not great but not awful. Mentioned Uncle Ben,with importance to his origin , featured Nick Fury and J Jonah Jameson, even Mr Fantastic aka Reed Richards got a mention. Spider-man's famous red and blue costume even got a glimpse, and looked great, even including the netting ( a triangular piece of net like material ) which was present in Steve Ditko's design, though not used by some artists nowadays, but not the Fox cartoon. Then he gets to the planet, and we get to see the rubbish designs for animal humanoids, and it sucks from the first glimpse. The jokes spidey ( or whoever this imposter is, since he ain't no spidey) makes are lame. I don't blame the voice artist, just the script. Next come the design of the characters. Spidey's new costume is dumb, just a copy of the Spider-man 2099 comic book costume. Some of the characters are just plain boring, such as a guy in bandages, where an episode is dedicated to him and how he became that way. There are riffs on other characters, but they don't even try to hide it, like a Green Goblin character who is supposed to be an anti-hero. Over all, not good at all and deserved to be cancelled.
