The 2nd best of the series
TERMINATOR18027 January 2002
The 2nd, although scary with alot of replay value, pretty much tried too much to be like the original. "Biohazard 3" also has replay value, you make decisions that affect the path your character takes. It is also alot scarier than any of the other Resident Evils ("Biohazards")

You play as Jill Valentine, the character from the original Resident Evil, in a game that is Half Prequel, Half Sequel. Half of the game takes place before Resident Evil 2, the other half takes place after Resident Evil 2.

Best RE Game of All Time
jakeeenator21 January 2011
I remember playing this game when it first came out in 1999 on the Dreamcast and thinking how intense/scary it was compared to RE 1 and 2. Resident Evil 3 takes place in Raccoon city (before and after RE 2) and you play as S.T.A.R.S member Jill Valentine who is desperately trying to escape. You meet a few characters along the way and some interesting enemies including Umbrellas new monster Nemesis who's only mission is to kill the remaining S.T.A.R.S members. The game is full of fun challenging puzzles way better then the other games in my opinion. And for its time had incredible cut scene graphics. To this day this game is my favorite video game of all time. Every time I play it its just as interesting as the first. 10/10

A wonderful horror game
jimmyplm14 January 2000
Anyone who liked Resident Evil & Resident Evil 2 will LOVE this game. It is the perfect third installment to the Playstation series of games. I especially like the part of the game where you actually get to shoot zombies as they rise out of the graveyard. Game lovers cannot go wrong playing this one. I can't say enough good things about these games!!!

The Last Escape
Rabical-911 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
With the second 'Resident Evil' game breaking sales figures in 1998, fans were left screaming for more. The following year, plans for a third game started to come to fruition. Initially, the game was to take place on a luxury cruise liner in which Hunk ( a mysterious spy from Umbrella who was introduced as an unlockable character in 'Resident Evil 2' ) was attempting to harbour samples of the G-Virus. This didn't happen alas, instead it focused on Jill Valentine ( who was one of the protagonists in the first game ) attempting to escape the zombie infested town that was once Raccoon City and so 'Resident Evil 3: Nemesis' was born. 'Nemesis' was unique in the 'Resident Evil' series in that it was the first game to have a single protagonist as opposed to two.

The game is divided into two segments. The first segment, set 24 hours before the events of 'Resident Evil 2' starts with Jill escaping from her apartment, with plans to flee Raccoon City. On her way to the police station, she runs into fellow S. T. A. R. S member Brad Vickers ( who many will remember from the first game as the spineless pilot who left his colleagues stranded in the mountains ) who warns Jill about a new bio-organic weapon created by Umbrella who is sent out to eliminate the R. P. D, only moments later to be brutally killed by said creature. This is none-other than Nemesis, a gargantuan, severely deformed monster who with his rocket launcher will hound you throughout the game. After managing to evade Nemesis and get out the police station alive. You will meet smooth-talking but kind-hearted Carlos Oliveria, well-meaning Mikhail Victor ( who is paralysed after being attacked by zombies ) and cold Nicholai Ginovaef, all of whom are members of the U. B. C. S ( 'Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service' ). Jill then joins forces with the Umbrella soldiers and decides to travel with them to the Raccoon City clock tower where a rescue chopper is to meet them.

However, Nicholai later goes missing and is presumed dead, Mikhail ends up taking his own life during a face-off with Nemesis in a bid to save Jill and Carlos as they travel via train to the clock tower, which ends up crashing in the courtyard of their destination. Not long after arrival, Jill has another face off with Nemesis and is injected by him with the G-Virus. It is at this point you will temporarily take control of Carlos in order to gain an antidote to save Jill from the virus. It is also at this point you learn that Nicholai is a supervisor from an espionage organisation sent out to gather combat data on the infected subjects who, if successful in his mission, is to receive a generous cash reward.

In the second section of the game ( which is now set two days after the events of 'Resident Evil 2' ), after being cured from the virus, Jill then leaves the clock tower to head to the Incineration Disposal Plant ( a plant disguised as an abandoned factory which Umbrella are using to dispose of bio organic waste ) where she learns that the government are planning to launch a missile into Raccoon City to prevent the virus from spreading. Your remaining mission now is to get out alive before the city is wiped out completely.

'Nemesis' is my favourite out of all the 'Resident Evil' games. Yet again, some new monsters are introduced here such as the Gammas ( a deadlier variation on the Hunters from the first game ), Drain Demios ( hideous blood sucking monsters ), Brain Suckers ( a more vicious variant on the Drain Demios ) and a giant worm like monster. Nemesis is indeed the stand out from all though. He terrified me at the time ( listen to how he growls ''S. T. A. R. S' each time he pounces an attack and you'll know why ). As the game transpires, Nemesis gradually becomes more and more mutated and by the end becomes a slug-like pulp. There are more cryptic puzzles to solve here too ( the water temperature puzzle had me baffled for days ). Also, certain sequences in the game require the character to make a certain choice to get out of a dangerous situation, which will vary the way the game ends.

The voice acting here is actually rather passable ( sexy Catherine Disher does a far better job of voicing Jill than the inexperienced bimbo who voiced her in the first game who is simply only known as 'Inezh' ) and the soundtrack is pretty hot too. Also fun is the bonus game 'The Mercenaries' unlocked upon completion in which you can take control of one of the three U. B. C. S members in order to reach a target destination in a given time.

This would have made a fine finale to the series but Capcom felt they could expand the format further and in 2000 made 'Resident Evil: Survivor'. It was dreadful. It was by this point I lost interest in the games ( with the exception of the excellent 2002 relaunch of the first game ).

If the much hyped remake of 'Resident Evil 2' is successful when it appears, one wonders if a remake of the third game will be on the cards. Let's hope so.

A Masterpiece
baldocchibeatriz20 February 2016
Resident Evil 3 - Nemesis is simply the best game ever released. I played it back in 2000 when I was really young and I was so mesmerized by this game that I couldn't do anything else for months. I only wanted to play and play. Jill Valentine got her place in my heart and the best and more complete character of all and Nemesis had his meaning too. He was simply terrifying, which made him unforgettable. Don't consider this grade, it deserves a 10. And if you are the kind of person who is able to feel the things from within, you'll agree with me. PS=I'd like to ask you guys to ignore all the reviews from the players who started playing with Resident Evil 4. Cause they are the ones who give bad reviews to this amazing game, just because they got into the franchise through the game that changed the franchise sense and they were probably teenagers at the time, to compare the graphics (since they were not able to feel the essence of this masterpiece.)

Possibly the best in the series
u_mbaptista18 October 2011
For a side game meant to hold fans over while the series moved on to the next generation of consoles with RE:Code Veronica, RE3 is a strong contender for best overall game in the franchise. The ability to quick turn, toggle while targeting, and mix gunpowder were welcome gameplay additions. Back to back playthroughs are rarely ever the same as solutions to puzzles and pop-up scare locations change, and player decisions influence the way the plot unfolds. RE3 closes out the Raccoon City chapter of the game with S.T.A.R.S officer Jill Valentine's final attempt to escape the giant graveyard, evading zombies, mutants, Umbrella mercs, and a powerful new Bioweapon; Nemesis. Like Mr. X before him, this nemesis will stop at nothing to locate and end you, and is far more equipped to do so. As if having the hunting prowess of Predator, the speed of a Jamaican sprinter, NFL linebacker bulk, and the face of Sam Cassell weren't scary enough, they had the audacity to give this guy a rocket launcher!!

A strong instalment to the series and one of PS1's best.
alugell27 May 2014
I remember being pretty damn impressed when I first got this game (first one I'd actually ever picked up). Having played the others since, I can say that this is equal to RE2 (which is saying something, considering that was great), though Nemesis is the best boss of the original three as far as I'm concerned.

Pros: + Nemesis. One of the most unrelenting, scariest bosses in gaming. + Pretty strong cast of characters. + Genuinely scary, a lot of the time.

Cons: - Same premise as before, in many ways (not the most original game). - Same gameplay as before, too.

Resident Evil it's in your blood, Beware of Nemesis
Terryfan2 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Resident Evil 3:Nemesis is the final game of Resident to be release on The Playstation 1.

Resident Evil 3 takes place during the events of Resident Evil 2 and then takes places after the events of Resident Evil 2.

You take control of Jill Valentine from Resident Evil 1 after she resigned from S.T.A.R.S. she went into hiding to avoid Umbrella.

However Umbrella after the T-Virus breaks loose in Raccoon City thanks to William Birkins begins it cover-up plan.

Jill joins crosses path with Brad Vickers the helicopter pilot of S.T.A.R.S. informs Jill that a new monster is after S.T.A.R.S.Members.

Soon Jill crosses paths with Nemesis the main villain of Resident Evil 3. Umbrella release Nemesis to kill all Surviving S.T.A.R.S. members so that they couldn't reveal the truth on Umbrella.

Jill later meets Carlos a member of the UBCS who becomes a Ally of Jill.

The game still has the same graphics and backgrounds from Resident Evil 2 with some differences.

The Controls remain much the same as past Resident Evil games like the saying goes if it is not broke don't fix it.

The horrors that makes Resident Evil the game it is still has the power to make you feel scared and have your heart race fast while fighting Zombies and other monsters and Nemesis jumps out of nowhere and at random times and each time is scary.

CAPCOM really took the time to make Nemesis a real threat to the game, the Nemesis can run dodge attacks and chase you through out the game and uses a rocket launcher.

Resident Evil 3:Nemesis is really a strong sequel and consider one of the best in the series and deliver the horrors perfectly.

Overall Resident Evil 3 is really a scary game and brings what fans love about the series in the first place I give Resident Evil 3:Nemesis an 8 out of 10 Jill:You want STARS I'll Give You STARS

NEMESIS REVIEW(May contain spoilers)
timjohnson-9820517 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
RE(Remastered)& Nemesis are the only two games i have given top marks for.Nemesis is perfect in both story & game-play;hard mode offers immense replay & difficulty value(NEMESIS in particular)and is accomplished with the usual RE values & traits.Acting is--for the most part, great.Nemesis him self is one of the most relentlessly brutal scary creations ever(Watch ya self Jason)and tops off this game perfectly. The cut-scenes add spice and inject -- like previous RESIDENT EVILS the power and pacing that these old games need to allow them to be accessible for everyone to enjoy,as zombies are everyones cup-of-tea--why CAPCOM added so many elements into the series.

Surprise!
PlayerSS4 February 2003
The gameplay is really astounding in this game. Most of the characters are developed enough to know a little or a lot about them. The different weaponry is really cool. The side stories are really intriguing. The zombies are detailed with different styles of them throughout the game and it makes it fun to play. The enemies are extremely advanced in this game. In the end this game did good for a Resident Evil game. Surprised me on how good it turned out to be. My rating 9/10

Escape Raccoon City
warpedminds42017 August 2000
Just after the Mansion problem, Jill decides now is the time to leave the city when the zombies begin to walk the streets. The time frame in this is 24 hours before the events in BioHazard 2 and another 24 hours after it. Umbrella has hired a group of mercenaries to search for survivors, possibly just to make them look good, since most of the evidence of their research was left in the mansion. It appears that umbrella has been up to some other experiments... a monster prototype Nemesis has been sent out to kill the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members, so getting out of the city suddenly got much harder than Jill thought...

The cult classic
jebyvyson19 December 2019
Resident Evil 2 was everyone's favorite Resident Evil title at the time and with Resident Evil 3, it was some people personal favorite.

Positives: We get to play as one of the characters from the first game, Jill Valentine. The game still use tank controls but added something new that the pervious games doesn't have: dodging and 180 quick turn. These mechanics are use to help in some situations unlike the last 2 games, moving into a little more action. We finally get to explored the streets of Raccoon City where in Resident Evil 2 you explored the police station. While the game started to feel more action-toward, we we're quickly reminded that it's a horror game from one creature name Nemesis. Nemesis is seem like a clone of Mr. X but the difference is that he's smarter, have tentacles, and RUNS AFTER YOU! Nemesis mostly stalks you everywhere you go, which case me to get very paranoid throughout the game. You have a reloading tool which can be used with gunpowder to create ammo if you're running low. The more you use it, the better skilled you get. Also, the background environment looks way better than RE2, actually looks like a 3D game and it still holds up. There's a HD version on PC where you get a sharper look.

Negatives: Now honestly, I didn't really have anything negative to say but looking back at it, I do have issues with this. I did say the game seem to lean toward action which it's fine, but my problem is that the controls wasn't meant for a fast paced game like this and it's really a struggle. The amount of backtracking is such a pain. The previous has backtracking, but this one has the most out of all the 3 and it's a little annoying. We get to see new characters in this game which I liked, but they never showed up or even mentioned in future titles. Why introduced us to new people when we're not going to see them again. What a waste. I'm not going to be talking about the graphics or characters because this game came out on PS1.

Overall, this is my personal favorite Resident Evil game (I think I'm going to get hated for this but I think this game is better than RE2). It have some flaws but it's pretty enjoyable and addicting to play.

The graphics are great, the video sequences are even better and the puzzles are very good. This is a great new game. I liked the way that the zombies can now walk up and down stairs to get you. You'll never be bored with this game. There are always things to kill and puzzles to solve. Get this game, it's great!

This game is, if not better, as great as the sequel! Nemesis kept me running the whole time, and the new choice features adds a new twist! More random encounters makes the game different every time you play! It left me panting for more!

RE3 is a great sequel that completes the second chapter of Resident Evil. It sets a clear path for RE4, that should be one of the final games. Graphics and voice have improved, and gameplay is as good as ever. Great fun!

Still has the spirit of the original Resident Evil. Nemesis is pry the best villian I have seen next to the original Tyrant. This is a must-have to any gamer. The survival horror genre has just gotten better than ever due to this game.

The NEMESIS is coming to get YOU!
action-69 March 2000
Warning: Spoilers
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was finally released in Norway a couple of weeks ago. You play Jill Valentine, one of the survivors of Resident Evil 1. Jill has to escape from Raccoon City, the problem is that the town has been overrun by zombies and strange creatures. The other thing is that the NEMESIS is out there....... hunting down all your STARS-teammates, and killing them. The NEMESIS is a deathmachine created by the Umbrella company(the bad guys). Resident Evil 3 is both a prequel and a sequel, because parts of it take place 24 hours before the events of Resident Evil 2, and some parts take place 24 hours AFTER the events of Resident Evil 2. The graphics have been overhauled, and the backgrounds and the characters look a lot better than before. Sometimes in the game, you`ll hear a special "hunt-music", which tells you that the NEMESIS is very close by........... The game is after all a horror game, and there are many places where you`ll be scared to death. I will not recommend newcomers to the Resident Evil-series to jump right into the third chapter. No, it is best if you play the games in the right order, because the story is very important. Start with Resident Evil(10/10) or Resident Evil Director`s Cut(10/10), then go over to Resident Evil 2(10/10), and then come to Resident Evil 3. The weapons are a lot better this time, and there are lots of cool new weapons, in addition to your favorites from the two other games.

"SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" You can relax if you are sick of Raccoon City, because the city is TOTALLY DESTROYED by a nuclear-missile in the end of Resident Evil 3. Sequels to Resident Evil 3 will therefore not be set in Raccoon City. "SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The Resident Evil-series is far from over, and it is clearly indicated in the end, what will happen next............. Roll on Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica!!!! If you like the survivalhorror-genre, I`ll also recommend Dino Crisis(9/10) and Silent Hill(9/10). 10/10

Nice bloody horror survival game.
Aaron137517 July 2007
The first one had a lot of flaws, but the sequels worked out most of them quite nicely. Here, you don't have to worry so much about running out of ammo or health. The story is also good too, as you are thrown right in the middle of a zombie shoot out during an excellent movie sequence that is a vast improvement over the lame opening in the first movie. You are Jill Valentine, and you must escape the zombie filled city and yes, this game would have been better titled Biohazard as quite a lot of the action takes place out in the streets. I do not know why they needed to call this series Resident Evil. Well you must go to various places, do some puzzles and things of this like. Sounds like part two and in a way they share some similarities. However, it differs in one regard in that there is a titan like monster on your tail and this ramps up the tension level when it starts chasing you all over the place. So you basically move from place to place being stalked by this beast along with all the other familiar foes of the Resident Evil genre. Jill can collect a wide range of weapons, and once you have won the game you can play a cool survival mini game so all in all this game is a must for those who like the horror survival type games.

martymaster30 November 2001
This game just keeps on exceeding itself.

It thought Resident Evil 2 was good but this is just amazing. The game play is awsome and graphic and sound are one of the best I have seen on playstation 1.I cant wait to try out the new Resident Evil:code Veronica on playstation 2.

My advice to you is,go and buy all the Resident Evil games from number one and to Code Veronica to get the whole story, its only then you really can appreciate the game. You will be surprised how adictiv and scary this game really is.

This is one of the best RE's game that i have played, beside the first, second and the third one of course. This Dreamcast version is much more alive and kicking.

The graphics is superb but the only thing is that the puzzle can be a bit hard sometimes.

Horrible.
zabouke15 September 2001
I don't understand why people like this one so much, it was WAAAAAAAAAY too easy! And the fear factor, come on, everytime the music came on it gave it away for Nemsis. This one is horrible, I would not recommend this to anyone, even the die-hard fanatics. I bought, beat it in about 2 hours, and returned it.

Don't even rent it. It's boring and dull.

Another one of the best!!
powell_kellen16 July 2019
RE3 is right up there with RE4 and RE2 as one of the best. I played this game back in the 90s as a teen and loved it, now as an adult...I still love it. I bought an old PS One on amazon just to get this game. It's a game that I'll let my kids play when they're old enough. This is a timeless masterpiece.
