Real life married actors performing together as newlyweds are always a real treat o watch perform. This is particularly true when the actors are Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson who are an incomparable pair and very talented.
The story of "Lullaby" is timeless...and its truths are just as comical as they are sad. Too many lonely older mothers cling possessively to their 'adult' sons for fear of being left alone instead of realizing they've not lost anything but have gained a daughter! The resentments and jealousy between the two women along with the general clueless behavior on the part of the son is classical Only Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson along with Ruth White could pull this oft-times pathetic kind of storyline into a lighthearted and humorous adventure.
Ruth white steals the show as'mother'.
Much of the dialog between the three actors in such a setting rings true to life, and makes for a myriad of reactions by the viewer especially this viewer who knows what it's like to be the new wife.
Lastly, I should have known that this high-quality production was connected with David Susskind who always produces the best in plays.
