Flat Direction Dulls out....
Lestat-2816 September 2002
a potentially tight, interesting movie from a fairly simple premise.

The movie begins to two loooongggg, very uninteresting dialogue sequences wherein the director uses NOTHING but medium one shots connected via the shot-reverse shot method. Had Portugal studied film actually, he would know how quickly this technique tires the mind.

In fact, I was looking forward to seeing some kind of slow builder, a movie whose brief critical description matches the latter part of my initial sentence. Portugal clearly knows simple compositional principles and editing techniques, but is seemingly unaware of how to make a movie MOVE!

Poor student imitation of Hitchcock style

This movie ripped off many of the great films, but was still very hard to follow in many places. There was very little original about it. Probably just better to see the original than this student plagiarism. In general, I haven't had much luck with the Hollywood Video Tribal indie films. I do like good indies though. Not worth $3.79.

Terrific independent film. Lots of surprises.

Great job turning something simple into a very clever and compelling film. Definitely a find. Hitchcock feel is a welcome treat. Stands apart from a lot of independent films by delivering top notch style and execution.
