Short, Effective Comment on Artistic Creation
pauluswiggus4 August 2021
A sculptor is working a sculpture of a nude male figure. To begin with the sculptor is young and athletic looking, while the sculpture is quite primitive. As the sculptor chips away and the sculpture becomes more detailed and beautiful, the sculpture begins 'chipping' away at the artist, causing him to appear more and more aged. This animation, done in the style of black & white pencil drawing, is simple, yet beautiful. No complex backgrounds, just the two figures moving and changing, almost like a time-lapse. There is no narration or music, just the sound of the chisel, chipping away on both sides, becoming more and more relentless as time moves forward. The message about the dedication of the artist is clear and quite moving. Very effective for such a short film.
