Just a quick scan down the list below reveals an extraordinary breadth of genres and subject matters, from imposing, expensive science fiction films to quiet, intimate stories about men at sea on boats or outlaws breaking out of prison to be with their wives. Over on BBC One on Saturday night, the broadcaster was marking the 50th anniversary of a much-loved show. A cameo from Tom Baker, great actors, a glimpse into the future, plenty of touching nods to the past; It was a wonderful celebration of a fantastic British institution.
On ITV, Chico was jumping all over Caroline Flack in a warehouse.
Yes, this was the 10th Anniversary X Factor special. A randomly picked date, which happened to coincide with the events happening on BBC One. ITV did their best to trump the Doctor Who party and when it came to frightening performances that had you jumping behind the sofa in horror, X Factor was without question the clear victor.

Once upon a time, just ten nine years ago, The X Factor was something that you had to account for when hoping not to run into a former flame in a smoky club, One Direction was a mere geographical command and Wagner was still the guy who wrote this.
Since then, we've gone from Eton Road to Kingsland Road, Tabby Callaghan to Sam Callahan and G4 to 4G (okay, maybe not the last one). But while some things change, others stay the same, and one more act will be leaving the competition before the night is out. But who will it be?

Sam Bailey has topped Digital Spy's seventh X Factor 2013 poll.
Bailey received 41.48% of this week's vote and wins the support of DS readers for a sixth week out of seven following her performance of 'Bleeding Love' on last night's (November 23) 10th birthday special.
Luke Friend - who found himself in the sing-off last week - secured 17.67% of reader votes in second place.
He was praised by judges Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh for his rendition of One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful'.
Rough Copy's version of En Vogue's 'Don't Let Go (Love)' won them 15.13% of this week's vote, while Hannah Barrett secured the support of 9.06% with her take on 'Hallelujah'.
According to Digital Spy readers, Tamera Foster and Nicholas McDonald gave the weakest performances of the night and could find themselves in the bottom two.

The X Factor continued tonight (November 23) as the series celebrated its tenth anniversary.
The six remaining finalists took on hits from the show's back catalogue from the past decade, but who do you think sang best?
Was Sam Bailey's take on 'Bleeding Love' the song of the night? Perhaps Luke Friend took your breath away with 'What Makes You Beautiful'? Or maybe Rough Copy's 'Don't Let Go' was the standout performance?
With one hopeful departing the show tomorrow night, Digital Spy wants to know - who impressed you this week?

There are loads of fun ways to celebrate a tenth birthday. Going bowling, heading to Laserquest or even hiring a clown.
But for The X Factor, they have decided to shun all of these great ideas (Ok, maybe except the last one. Hi Louis!) in favour of something completely different…
Tonight, the remaining six contestants are saying 'Happy Birthday' by paying homage to the very best of what the show has produced over the past decade, from Alexandra to Leona, McElderry to, um, Ward.
Join Digital Spy from 8pm as we pop on the party hats for what is definitely going to be this weekend's most important TV show birthday celebration…

This week, we've decided against our usual tradition of a Spotify playlist of the original versions of the songs to be performed on this Saturday's Live Show.
Why? Well, four of the "X Factor artist" songs chosen for this 10th anniversary Live Show are themselves covers of older songs - Louis Walsh's rulebook is presumably covered in Tipp-Ex.
So we've instead decided to give you a video playlist of what we believe to be the definitive X Factor renditions of each of the tracks that Hannah Barrett, Luke Friend, Nicholas McDonald, Rough Copy, Sam Bailey and Tamera Foster will sing tomorrow.
Alexandra Burke: 'Hallelujah' - 2008 final performance (originally by Leonard Cohen)
One Direction: 'What Makes You Beautiful' - 2011 final with Jls
Joe McElderry: 'The Climb' - 2009 winner's performance (originally by Miley Cyrus)
Little Mix: 'Don't Let Go' - 2011 week seven performance (originally by...

The song choices for X Factor's 10th anniversary weekend have been revealed.
To celebrate the landmark occasion, the remaining six acts will sing some of the biggest hits of previous X Factor winners.
Hannah Barrett will taken on 'Hallelujah', which Alexandra Burke covered in December 2008 and achieved Christmas number one with.
Luke Friend will perform a solo version of One Direction's debut hit 'What Makes You Beautiful', while Nicholas McDonald will tackle Hannah Montana's 'The Climb', the number two hit covered by Joe McElderry for the talent show's sixth series.
En Vogue's 'Don't Let Go' will be performed by Rough Copy, the song which Little Mix performed twice in the eighth series of The X Factor, and featured as a bonus track on their 2011 winner's single.
Elsewhere, Sam Bailey will take on Leona Lewis's 'Bleeding Love', which took the world by storm in 2007. The...

It's time to get the bunting out as The X Factor celebrates the best of British tonight (November 16).
Our seven remaining singers will be taking on hits from the likes of Adele, Sir Elton John and Coldplay, but will they do their nation proud?
This time last year we were treated to Christopher Maloney's defiant 'I'm Still Standing' and a fabulously Ott Spice Girls medley from Rylan. Whether we can expect to reach such levels of entertainment this year remains to be seen.
Join Digital Spy from 8pm as we settle down ready for this week's show...

The X Factor is bringing back the 'Songs from the Movies' theme for the third Live Show of the series, it has been confirmed.
All 10 remaining acts will perform songs associated with famous films.
Movies Week was last used on the show in 2011 and featured Craig Colton singing 'Licence To Kill', Misha B tackling 'I Have Nothing' and Little Mix memorably covering 'Don't Let Go (Love)'.
It was previously confirmed that Big Band week will be returning in Week 5 of the competition.
Week 4 is expected to have a Halloween theme as it has in recent series.
Shelley Smith became the second act to be eliminated from this year's X Factor tonight (October 20), losing out in the sing-off to Kingsland Road. The result means that Sharon Osbourne has been reduced to just one act after only two weeks of the competition.

"An outer space thrill ride in 3-D!" Congrats to all the success, Gravity, and also Warner Bros, for a great opening weekend. Despite all the excellent trailers and minimal marketing for the movie, I was never really impressed with their poster art for Gravity. In response, I whipped up my own design for fun but thanks to the wonders of the internet we now have a good collection of outstanding fan-made poster art for Alfonso Cuarón's space disaster masterpiece starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Most of these posters outshine the studio art, at least in their own unique & creative ways. I even like the vintage one. Don't let go. Here is the batch of alternate, mostly fan-made posters for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. Many of these were made specifically for ShortList, via The Film Stage. Click each for original source and mouseover for artist. Those last two posters...

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Don't let go. After years of waiting, delays, hype and anticipation, it's finally here. Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity arrives in theaters everywhere in 3D this weekend. This is one of those spectacular movies that is a must see on the biggest screen around. Sandra Bullock stars with George Clooney as Nasa astronauts who experience a major catastrophe in space and attempt to return safely to Earth. Does it live up to the hype? Does it compare at all to space classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey? Once you've seen it, leave a comment with your own thoughts on Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. Spoiler Warning: We strongly urge everyone to actually see the film before reading ahead, as there may be spoilers below. We also encourage all commenters to keep major spoilers from the film to a minimum, if possible. However, this...

Don't let go! How about some more marketing for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity to keep this upcoming movie on the top of your mind. IMAX has unveiled their new poster for Gravity, featuring nothing but a black sky and a floating astronaut. It's the kind of imagery I've been pushing for them to use because the minimalism fits the movie and sells the experience. This poster comes on the heels of three fantastic uncut teaser scenes featuring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Along with those scenes came three wide theatrical banners, which I tossed in below as well. Hopefully the marketing is keeping everyone as excited for this film as I am. Courtesy of @IMAX, the new IMAX poster for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. Better than the first teaser poster? Here's the three theatrical banners for Gravity also released last week with the three clips via Facebook. Dr. Stone (Bullock...

Don't let go. Whoa. The very first teaser poster has been revealed today to continue the build-up to the first trailer reveal tomorrow for Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. The highly anticipated, long-awaited space film stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock as astronauts who get launched into space after a catastrophic accident sends them drifting away from Earth. We've been covering this movie for years and this is finally the very first bit of marketing material released publicly; they still haven't even released a real photo yet. This is a stunning poster, I'm impressed by it, but my only question - why is Cuarón's name so damn small? Here's the very first teaser poster for Alfonso Cuarón's new sci-fi film Gravity, in high res via IMPAwards: Dr. Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk,...

Dr. Ryan Stone is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone--tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth...and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. Don't let go. Scott Westmoreland was another of the entrprising young actors trying to make it back in Hollywood in the 80's. Even though he didn't make it as a film actor, he will always be part of a movie, Slumber Party Massacre II, that holds a special place in many a genre fan's bloody heart. Slumber Party Massacre was produced by Roger Corman's Concorde Pictures studio and released by the now defunct Nelson Entertainment. The film enjoyed a re-release on the DVD market in the early part of the decade under Roger Corman's New Concorde Home Entertainment label only to be discontinued and sky rocket in cost to the point that it was unaffordable. Lucky for us, the film is getting re-released yet again by Shout! Factory as part of The Slumber Party Massacre collection. As the end of summer is upon us, one of my favorite shows is brought back to life with it's sixth season premiere.
"Thwack" takes off right where season five left off - Shane, at the pool, holding the stick... err, mallet.
This exactly proves why I love this show so much. It always swings us right back into the thick of things - no fast forward here, folks. We learn exactly what emotions take place after the crazy finale from the season before.
Nancy does what any mother would do after she comes to terms with her son being a murderer - she flees. But, of course, she stops at home to pick up her necessities (like shoes). This personality trait Nancy has really bothers me. She left no time for her children to get any of their stuff, but made sure she had everything she needed.
