Decent idea poorly executed
acidburn-1031 December 2013
I recently came across this movie and thought that it looked interesting, with a decent sounding storyline = a young college girl suspects that her neighbours are serial killers and plus it has a few familiar faces in it namely Tobin Bell from the Saw movies, Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars & Batman) and Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years). And so for 25p I can't go wrong.

"The Killer Next Door" which seems to be its UK title wasn't a particularly good movie, it's not terrible by all means I have seen worse but on a small scale it kind of works in a TV movie kind of way and there were small shades of tension and real fear for the leading heroine Molly (Danica McKellar), like when she is menaced by the serial killers Tobin Bell and the other guy, but that is all let down by the poor acting of not just her but 90% of the cast, including Billy Dee Williams who doesn't seem to be making an effort at all just plain wooden throughout.

The only saving grace was Tobin Bell who was very convincing and scary throughout the movie. But the effects were laughable to say the least and I did find Danica's foul mouth hilarious throughout and her sassy friend Rhea was just plain awful and should have died sooner. Okay I understand that this movie was low budget and that shows through and through, but it had a decent storyline but was poorly executed with shoddy acting.

Illogical, Far-Fetched, and Just Plain Stupid
quentinwparker9 November 2001
This film, seemingly, went straight to cable TV. That should tell you something. The plot has Danica McKellar (Winnie, from the Wonder Years)as a dysfunctional college student living in a house with a female roommate. New neighbors (two men) move in next door, and she quickly becomes curious about them. They make it know that her curiosity is unwelcome, and she then becomes suspicious about their activities. Soon, she realizes they're serial killers, but no one will believe her, not even the police. That is, until Billy Dee Williams, who plays an outcast detective, helps prove her correct. The storyline is far-fetched, illogical and just plain stupid. If you're a Danica McKellar fan, there is little new here but her cursing for the first time. She's still sweet, vulnerable Winnie, only with an occasional foul mouth. This isn't Billy Dee Williams shining moment on film, either. On a scale from 1 to 10, (with 10 being outstanding), this film is a solid 1!

It sucked!
tygerlily43023 October 2003
-The acting was bad.

-The Script was bad.

-The actors themselves were bad.

-The idea behind the movie was a good one, but whoever decided that they should be the one's to write it were sadly mistaken.

-There were way to many cliches, and horrible jokes.

-I don't reccomend this movie to anyone.

Why! Why! Why!

Not many movies make me outright mad, but this does. I'm so angry that I wasted an evening of my valuable time on this piece of #%@*! The people responsible should go to film school. This is the worst film ever made, and I'll never get those painful 2 hours back! My 10 year old daughter makes better movies with our vcr!

Nothing good here
Stevieboy66610 February 2020
Released in the UK as The Killer Next Door by a label who were known for low budget movies, this is bottom of the barrel crap. A college girl with a troubled past suspects that her two male neighbours are serial killers. One is played by Tobin Bell and he does give a creepy performance, but I bet this is one movie that he'd rather keep quiet about. Everything (bar Bell) is terrible. The acting, the extremely bad dialogue, lousy attempts at comedy (pull my finger fart joke) and the twist at the end, all very poor. Nothing here to warrant it being certified an 18. Could've sworn that I saw Vin Diesel for a speechless couple of seconds (?). I picked this up dirt cheap on DVD so I'm not complaining, I just couldn't recommend this to anybody other than die hard Bell fans.

Worth watching for one reason...
spikysid27 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
... and that reason would be Tobin Bell. His performance sent shivers down my spine. The character portrayed by him (Geoffrey) was creepy, spooky and... weirdly fascinating. Okay, maybe the film wasn't spectacular, but his scenes were definitely a highlight of the film. Crystal Porter as a "masseuse" (Deli) was hilarious!!! Danica McKellar...? I won't say that she's a bad actress, but in this one she simply... sucks. When she tries to be scared you just wanna slap her and scream "more emotion girl, more emotion!" If you're in a bad mood the last 10 minutes might cheer you up - I was laughing like crazy, although I probably shouldn't. In general - the whole idea wasn't bad, but the way they filmed it... it just doesn't 'do'. But if you're Tobin Bell fan, it's a must,it's definitely worth few bucks :)

Not the Worst
martay-27 January 2003
This movie isn't the greatest but it does feature interesting work from Billy Dee Williams. Certainly not his best performance but he's got an interesting take on the character.

The movie is put together well and if it doesn't thrill you, that's one thing but it's certainly not as bad as many movies that you'll find at your local video store.

Great Have to watch it Twice
kfinley302116 July 2007
This is a very smart little film. And to see little Winnie Cooper all grown up is great. The acting is great and the direction superb. You have to watch it twice!! If you think you know what is going to happen next you are probably just guessing. Tobin Bell (SAW) is outstanding in this little thriller. I know they must not have had a lot of money to make this film, but it turned out great. It is better than most things on screen today. Catch it when you can. Where ever it is released. Billy Dee is at his smoothest. The feeling you get when you watch this little movie is that making a good little film can still happen. It doesn't take a huge budget or enormous special effects to tell a great story with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. Be sure to see this one!

One of the best little movies around
stagenframe14 April 2003
Good Neighbor is a great little movie. It has thrills and should be seen twice just so you can get all the stuff you missed the first time. Billy Dee Williams is great in the role of Det. Davidson. Danika McKellar does a wonderful job as Molly. But Tobin Bell steals the show! This is a smart, clever, little movie and you won't believe how low the budget was.

hilarious

This movie is a hilarious tongue-in-cheek movie. Great for those who feel the world is asleep at the wheel... Less perceptive people might see it as a bad b-film but it is really a wonderful parody of the genre.
