Cute but slow paced. Predictable.
photoweborama21 December 2000
Cute but it was slow paced. I did enjoy it but my tastes are much different from your average movie critic. I like these cute, sappy movies myself. I almost turned it off because of the slow pace but I made it to the end.

Lame Story about Greed & Dishonesty for Christmas
Johnny_West16 March 2022
Three guys who think they are a lot hotter than they really are spend the Christmas holidays pretending to be wealthy playboys so they can hook up with gold diggers and rich women who are looking for rich men. It is a lot shallower than that, and there is nothing positive, uplifting, or good-hearted. Just a sad story about greedy materialistic people failing to find any meaningful relationships.

Hip And Funny Update Of How To Marry A Millionaire
bob wolf21 December 2000
Remaking old classic movies seems to be a trend the last few years. Whether it's on the big screen or on the small screen, audiences have been inundated with remakes. How To Marry A Billionaire is a hip, up-to-date take on Jean Negulesco's How To Marry A Millionaire. The story of three money-seeking women who set out to marry three millionaires. As anyone who has seen the film remembers the story concluded with the ladies redeeming themselves when they choose love over money and then getting both.

In How To Marry A Billionaire, the concept is similar but the tables are turned, as this time, it's three men looking for rich women. The characters are similar with John Stamos, as Tom, heading up the charge playing Bacall's intelligent, scheming character. Shemar Moore, as Jason, is the dim-witted, but kind-hearted ladies man/want-to-be-actor, he is obviously doing Monroe's character. Joshua Malina, as Mark, plays the deep-thinking, conservative character that Grable nailed down in the original.

The three poor bachelors pass themselves off a mega-rich movie producers in an attempt to land an equally rich partner and get married. The three soon find that the idea is much harder to pull off as they had originally thought, whenever emotions are involved, it usually is.

A truly sweet love story arises when Tom befriends a lonely painter on the beach, played by Gabrielle Anwar. She isn't rich but she has a kind heart and before long Tom is falling in love with her.

Will Tom choose love over money? Will Jason gets his big role? Will Mark realize something about himself that he had been suppressing all his life? Something that Grable was never allowed to reveal back in the 50's. You have to watch to find out. I'll let you in on a secret, the film is a remake remember.

Rod Daniel (Alley Cats Strike) is such a talented director that it boggles the mind to know that he is making TV-movies while guys like Danny Cannon are being allowed to direct big-budget Hollywood features. Anyways, try and check this movie out next time it comes on!

Just horrid.
Brian-5521 December 2000
This movie was the worst Christmas film I've ever seen. Totally inappropriate for any family viewing. Cheap exploitation and crude humor does not make a film! Grotesque "Sweaterpuppets" and dirty old scotsmen grabbing and yanking on something under another man's kilt is truly awful for a evening "family" movie. Needless to say Fox really blew this one.

Money isn't everything, but intelligence is.

Warning: Spoilers
Aging out of the cool dude dating pool has three charming but vapid men (Shemar Moore, John Stamos and Joshua Malina) deciding what they need are wealthy young women to take care of them, and that means going where they believe wealthy young women hang out. Every line out of their mouths exposes just how dumb they are, maybe not the type to decide they're going to bump the wealthy wife off once they catch them, but perhaps just bore then to death. Some of the women are rather pathetic themselves, with Russian American Dorie Barton embarrassed by her tacky wealthy parents (a hysterically funny Rhea Pearlman and Dabney Coleman, choosing American names already used), and seemingly desperate to grab onto any man to get away. Others seem like possible bunny boilers, control freaks or drama queens, but the real nice girls barely get a notice from them, obviously either onto their scheme or not defined by their bank accounts, like the painter (Gabrielle Anwar) whom Stamos meets.

Yes this is a very pretentious, unrealistic film, featuring a script as dumb as the three men (outside a few of the more amusing supporting characters, including a weird couple Moore works for played by Katherine Helmond and Kenneth Mars), although I did force a guffaw every now and then. There's a great scene though where Anwar tells Stamos off for his amoral scheme, but it will take a lot for the viewer to get past the truth about these three men, even though there are hints that one of them isn't naturally attracted to women. Roark Critchlow as a very strong valet seems to add heat to his scene with one of them, adjusting their collar as the other one has a daydream about being strangled. Hamilton Camp is a sarcastic Santa, and in a brief but funny bit, an older bearded man in a kilt surprises Moore who spends most of his screen time shirtless. This style of comedy works for John Waters, but here, it's simply just creepy. The Christmas mention in the title really ends up being pointless.

BIG surprise
smartbomb20 December 2000
This movie totally surprised me. I actually turned on the tube to watch something else, but this movie turned out to be on instead. And sure, the title "How to Marry a Billionaire" only made me think of that ridiculous TV stunt a while back, so I was only going to watch it until I could verify how bad it would be. Boy was I surprised! What this movie really has going for it is the writing and the perfectly timed comedic acting. Sure, the story's fairly cliched (true love is better than money, etc., etc.) but the ride is totally funny and entertaining. The three lead actors are all *very* funny in this, and there are some great moments with the supporting cast. Their timing and rapport feels authentic and some of the jokes are laugh-out-loud hilarious (some of the gags are still repeating themselves in my head as I write this).

I dunno why more TV movies aren't this good. I'd certainly stay tuned to more of them if they were. The cast all seemed to be having a great time; you'd have to be totally humourless not to crack a smile. So as long as you don't expect *too* much, you'll have a great time wasting a couple hours. Kudos to anyone involved for putting in the extra effort.

Much funnier than expected - a bit like "Scrubs"
steve-thompson256 December 2003
I only started watching this because of the West Wing connection (i.e. Joshua Malina was given second billing) but it was much better than I'd expected from reading the blurb. I found it to be a funny, well-written (if somewhat cliched) piece with strong performances all round, and a cute poodle. It reminded me a lot of "Scrubs" and is certainly worth higher than a lousy 4.4 you guys! (The same score, incidentally as "Legally Blond 2" - Please!)

A fun farce
boberck27 December 2000
Why anyone would bill it as a Christmas movie is beyond me. It's just a fun and silly farce about three guys trying to snag one or more rich wives. The actors are reasonably well matched to the characters that they play, and there is the usual assortment of hijinks.

Started off good and went nowhere!
rahwal24 December 2000
Movie fizzled out. By 3/4 through it, waiting for the end to come. Completely lost my interest. For a 8:00pm viewing, had things that were inappropriate for that time slot. Acting was good on a whole but some actresses were very boring.

Not as bad as some say!
quote-419 November 2011
Its no blockbuster, but it gave me that satisfying feeling when it ended. A light movie for a lonely Saturday night. Some nice jokes in it, a really beautiful beach. Acting isn't as bad as some of the reviewers stated. I admit, some of the lines are cheesy and yeah, the movie is quite predictable, even though i haven't seen the original, but overall i liked it anyway. Considering its a TV movie, it deserves a high rating in its category. I'd give a 10/10 to Gabrielle Anwar - awesome acting and she looks stunning as always!

The title isn't as attractive as the movie itself and i think the movie is underrated. If you've got some time to spare and this on the TV next, go for it. Recommended!
