Forty-four inflatable pieces and thousands of lights grace Leon Mathieu’s Raynham, Massachusetts, front yard every Christmas. Why should this one be any different?
“It’s a hobby of mine and I enjoy it. I do it really for the kids,” Mathieu told CBS.
But battling burnt-out lights and uncooperative displays are hardly the worst fight Mathieu’s had in his 54 years. For 30 years, Mathieu has struggled against cancer. He beat Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer, twice; most recently, he survived pancreatic cancer. “They operated on me and removed a few organs out of me,” he bluntly explained to CBS.

NBC’s unedited 50th-anniversary broadcast of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! drew 5.2 million total viewers and a 1.2 rating on Friday, easily winning the night in the demo while giving the Peacock a 21-month, non-Olympics high in the time slot. Versus a year ago (when it aired on a Wednesday with a strong lead-in), the Grinch was down 5 and 20 percent.

For some people "holiday" may suggest Christmas, but nobody puts Thanksgiving in the corner. The annual rollout of Christmas songs is often a rushed, haphazard affair: You can only take so many versions of "Sleigh Ride" crammed into your Black Friday commute before you crack. So to help you cope, we've created this Christmas Song Advent Calendar. Play one of these songs each day as we approach Christmas to help you get in the spirit. Dec. 1: "Jingle Bells" Obviously we started with this song because it is so cliché. That's why we're publishing this the day after we picked it. You know the Christmas classic, "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer?" Well it looks like it needs to be re-written to, "Reindeer Got Run Over By John Mayer!" We're not sure if this is some sort of homage to Santa's red-nosed helper or payback for hearing Rudolph's catchy song one too many times, but either way, it's a misguided fashion moment considering the famous four-legged animals take flight in T-minus 5 days... Regardless of the fact that Katy Perry's main squeeze is totally getting coal for Christmas with this move, he looks completely ridiculous! Fur coats are barely acceptable for men (sorry Kanye), but one that looks like it was stolen from the wardrobe closet of The Santa...

Fast National ratings for Monday, Dec. 16, 2013
The final performances on "The Voice" carried NBC to a ratings win Monday, but the show will likely be down from last week (the network's Baltimore affiliate carried the "Monday Night Football" game) and off significantly from last fall's final performance episode. It did, however, help "The Sing-Off" score better ratings than its last few outings.
Elsewhere Monday, "Mike & Molly" grew by a couple tenths of a point in adults 18-49 on CBS and scored its biggest overall audience since its season premiere. "Hostages" ticked up as well. Fox's "Almost Human" was down vs. last week.
NBC brought in 11.1 million viewers and a 6.8 rating/11 share in households, pending updates for the local NFL telecast. CBS (6.9 million, 4.5/7) came in second. ABC (4.4 million, 2.8/4) currently sits in third, also pending updates for a local "Monday Night Football" broadcast in Detroit. Fox (3.9 million, 2.5/4) finished fourth, and The CW (1.1 million,...

Fast National ratings for Friday, Dec. 23, 2011
Friday night was, as you might expect of a Friday right before Christmas, rather uneventful in the Nielsen ratings. "Chuck" was the only original scripted program on broadcast TV, and it was up a tick over last week.

ABC (4.2 million, 2.4/4) finished second, beating out NBC's 3.15 million viewers and 2.0/4. Fox (1.9 million, 1.3/2) held off The CW (1.4 million, 0.8/2) for fourth place.
Thanks to a batch of holiday specials, ABC led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 1.1 rating, edging out CBS' 1.0 and NBC's 0.9. Fox drew a 0.6 and The CW a 0.4.

Fast National ratings for Friday, Nov. 25, 2011
It was a night of reruns, holiday specials and movies - so who came out on top? CBS did, as usual, but by a much slimmer margin than the Eye normally wins. A "Blue Bloods" rerun was the overall ratings winner for the night.
CBS averaged 5.3 million viewers and a 3.3 rating/6 share in households. ABC was second with 4.5 million, 2.7/5, NBC was third with 3.979 million, 2.5/4 and Fox was barely fourth with 3.977 million and a 2.4/4. The CW trailed with 1.5 million, 0.9/2.
In the adults 18-49 demo, it was almost exactly reversed. Fox won with a 1.2, followed by ABC with a 1.1, and then CBS and NBC at 1.0. The CW was fifth with a 0.4.
Friday hour by hour:
8 p.m.
ABC: "Shrek the Third" (4.08 million, 2.4/4)
NBC: "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" (4.05 million, 2.6/5)

Christmas specials, "Ugly Betty" and the last of "Dollhouse" couldn't compete Friday with CBS' "Ghost Whisperer"/"Medium"/"Numb3rs" one-two-three punch.
The Eye's Friday supernatural powerhouse scored it 7.5 million viewers and a 4.8 rating/8 share. The Muppets -- specifically, "A Muppets Christmas" -- and "Dateline" helped NBC sneak past ABC with 5.1 million viewers and a 3.2/6 to the latter's 4.5 million and 3.2/5. CBS handily won the 18-49 demographic for the night, with NBC trailing at 1.3 and ABC barely falling behind the Peacock with 1.2. Fox and The CW tied in the demo with 0.8 each.
