- Shaun's brother entices a woman and drops his pants, and she bites her lip. No nudity but it is implied they have sex. They are later shown together in their underwear.
- Lots of strong sexual references.
- In one scene, Cindy tells her son that she had sex with her handicapped husband, Bob, four times for him.
- We see Shaun's stepmother in a small bikini (with a towel around her waist) that shows cleavage. She somewhat comes on to Shaun when he shows up, and we later see her doing the same to a leaf blower worker as she caresses his leaf blower.
- Two people make out in a car. You see them kiss and sex is later suggested.
- Bud tells his ex-wife that Krista, his current wife, has been cheating on him and committing adultery. He eventually tells Cindy that he wants her back. The two steamily make out in the kitchen and up against the fridge before falling on the floor together. Sex is later implied.
- A scene includes flashbacks of a highschool girl in various compromising situations including her making out with her step brother in a bed, making out with two male students at a funeral, and making out with a woman.

- A couple decorative glass pieces fall off a shelf and hit an old disabled man in the head which causes him to exclaim in pain. He is later shown having a head bandage applied.
- Shaun's brother drives dangerously but no one is injured.
- Shaun falls face first in a pool in an attempt to commit suicide, but is immediately pulled out. This is mostly done for laughs.
- Shaun is hit in the face with a rock. His face reddens and a small cut is shown.
- One of Shaun's closest friends, Lonny, dies in a surfing accident.
- After Shaun grabs a high school counselor's shoulders in anger, she knees him in the crotch or gut, sending him to the floor, doubled over in pain.

- Shaun's older brother smokes.
- Lance and a woman are shown smoking together, it is unclear if it is a cigarette or marijuana.
- Shaun's mother is an alcoholic. She drinks a lot to ease her depression and cover up the fact that she's miserable.
- The older brother, Lance, is a total stoner. Many scenes make the audience assume that he is too high. In one part, he laughs at a Spongebob episode, hinting that he smoked weed.
- Ashley accidentally gives Stanford's Dean of Admissions three pills of ecstasy. It is obvious that the Dean's perception and behavior has changed drastically.
