Dreams, reality & death
greybear-16 February 2002
A groovy little film about a projectionist in a run-down cinema who puts on a reel and falls asleep. From then on it's up to the audience to guess what's real, what's on the reel and what's a dream. Inventive and, like a lot of short (low-budget) films, it uses a documentary-style set-up to make the fantasy more acute and crams a lot into a few minutes. It won the Shine! Award for short films at Bradford Film Festival 2001.

As good as many feature length films in its genre
BrandtSponseller7 February 2005
A movie theater projectionist has a heart attack while wolfing down a tray of tex-mex nachos while movie previews are showing. Or does he? Le Dernier reve bounces the main character back and forth between realities, and maybe it was all a dream.

This is a remarkable film for only being 15 minutes long. In that length of time, director Emmanual Jespers manages to make a film that's every bit as intriguing as its feature length progenitors and descendants (The I Inside (2003) is one film that may have been influenced by Le Dernier reve). Jespers creates an atmospheric fantasy world of tunnels and underground lairs in a conventional building and basement, and a fascinating "youth" who may be manipulating reality. This is worth a watch from anyone who likes darkly surreal films in the "what is reality?" genre.

Boring and pointless

The story about a projectionist who gets hearth problems and taken to hospital, only to wake up a few moments later and discover it was just a bad dream. Then the movie starts to take twists and turns and we all wait for the end-credits to wake us from this terrible nightmare and hoping that this film really got stuck in the machine (and never got out).
