A bit of a downer after playing Metal Gear Solid
Agent109 May 2002
After experiencing the breath taking artistry in Metal Gear Solid, VR Missions tends to lack in so many areas. Granted, some of the missions were challenging and all, but the whole concept was dull and hollow. Its obvious this was some cheap sequel bent on earning a few bucks. Just stick to the good stories, not this stuff.

Mainly for hardcore fans...

This is a good game for fans who enjoyed the gameplay of the original Metal Gear Solid. It is basically a game with 300 "VR" missions that resemble the ones from MGS.

Keep in mind that there is exactly NO storyline in this game. Its just kind of like an add-on. If you haven't played Metal Gear Solid, you should buy that instead.

Puzzley action nuggets? Hmm...

While some would complain that MGS contained too much yak and not enough action, Special/ VR Missions suffers from the opposite problem- while it contains 300 subtly crafted, challenging and engaging missions, the lack of a storyline means it's all too easy to decide it's not worth the bother and give up. Which is a pity, as those bitten by the stealth bug will find much to love, from the purity of the weaponless sneaking missions to the joypad-tossing frustration of the Puzzle challenges.

More of an optional add-on pack for completists, its successor (MGS2: Substance) added more variety and a welcome injection of story-based missions.
