- At the mid-century point, this edition of the March of Time series (Volume 16, Number 1) looks at what has been accomplished and what might lie ahead. Despite grand achievements, the knowledge that has led man to greatness, has also led man to have the power to destroy as shown by the ravages of World War II. The pace of life has quickened to the point of creating dissatisfaction for many who are trying hard to be happy. Modern art represents the impatience with tradition. Mental illness has become the medical profession's great new problem. The Cold War and spread of Communism is the great new threat with 750 million people now under Communist rule. The creation of NATO is the great hope for the Western Alliance. Emerging nations are realizing the dream of independence. Science may hold the great hope for the future of man.—garykmcd
