Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster Twilight franchise is heading to the small screen, and here are the details.
There was a time in the early 2010s when Twilight was just about the biggest film franchise around.
It comprises five films – 2008’s Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, 2009’s New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, 2010’s Eclipse, directed by David Slade, and the two part finale Breaking Dawn, directed by Bill Condon and released in 2011 and 2012. Their success was such that two parody films were also released in quick succession, the much maligned Vampire’s Suck and Breaking Wind.
The films followed Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan as she becomes romantically involved with vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, and werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. Which all leads to a battle with vampire coven The Volturi.
Adapted by future Jessica Jones creator Melissa Rosenberg, the large ensemble cast also included Billy Burke,...

Samara Weaving is buckling up for 20th Century Studios forthcoming heist thriller Eenie Meanie. Sitting shotgun for the project is Karl Glusman, with writer-director Shawn Simmons at the helm. Producing the fast-paced thriller is Deadpool franchise alums Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
In Eenie Meanie, Samara Weaving plays Edie, “a former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her unsavory past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend.” (via Deadline)
Glusman hits the pavement as John, Edie’s recurrent boyfriend. Despite their differences, Edie feels compelled to pull John out of the flames of a terrible situation.
As one of my favorite actors in the business today, Samara Weaving is a force of nature. For some of her best performances, check out Joe Lynch’s Mayhem. The 2017 action-comedy is like Office Space meets The Raid and is a must-watch.

Lionsgate is stirring excitement with news of a fresh John Wick spin-off series. This comes as a surprise, especially since it won’t connect to the previously aired prequel, The Continental. At a recent conference, Lionsgate’s vice-chairman, Michael Burns, dropped hints about this project alongside an animated ‘Twilight’ continuation. He believes the John Wick series, starring Keanu Reeves, will grab our attention as a TV series.
The Continental, for those who might not have caught it, was a dive into the backstory of Winston Scott, a key character from the John Wick movies. It aired as three extended episodes on Peacock and Prime Video, showcasing the origins of the New York Continental Hotel – a safe zone for the underworld’s assassins. Despite its connection to the John Wick universe, it seems the new series will chart a different path.

Lionsgate is expanding the “Twilight” franchise with a new animated series, Variety has confirmed.
Michael Burns, vice chairman of Lionsgate, shared the news during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference on Tuesday, revealing, “We’re going to go out with the ‘Twilight’ series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.”
Last April, Variety reported that a “Twilight” TV series adaptation was in very early development at Lionsgate Television.
The animated series would be based on the Stephanie Meyer book series of the same name, which was previously adapted into a film franchise, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
There were four “Twilight” novels — “Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn” — published between 2005 and 2008. In 2015, Meyer released the book “Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined,” which gender-swapped the two main characters, Bella and Edward. Meyer then released “Midnight Sun” in...

Just a few weeks after one of the stars of the John Wick franchise, Ian McShane, ripped Lionsgate’s TV spin-off The Continental live on TV, the studio seems like it’s going full steam ahead on a John Wick TV show. According to Deadline, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said as much during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference. “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series,” said Burns, who also revealed that the studio is planning a Twilight animated series too.
Readers will remember another John Wick tv series, The Continental, dropping just a few months ago. According to Burns, the new Wick show will not be related to that series of three 90-minute telefilms, which was about the early adventures of the character played by Ian McShane in the proper John Wick movies,...

Lionsgate is expanding two of its biggest movie franchises, John Wick and Twilight, with new TV series offshoots. The company’s Vice Chairman Michael Burns shared information about the two projects during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference.
“We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that,” he said, adding about John Wick, “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series.”
This is the same Twilight series, news of which leaked last April as being in early development at Lionsgate. According to sources, the project had been envisioned as animated from the get-go.
The new John Wick series, confirmed by Deadline, comes on the heels of prequel The Continental, which consisted of three one-and-a-half-hour movies.

The world of entertainment lost a true talent last March when The Wire and John Wick actor Lance Reddick passed away. To honor the actor, the Saturn Awards is introducing the Lance Reddick Legacy Award, with its first recipient announced as John Wick co-star Keanu Reeves.
A statement regarding the award said that the honor “symbolizes and celebrates not only a performer’s talent, but their character; someone who’s a true goodwill ambassador in the industry.” As far as why Keanu Reeves was selected as the first recipient of the Lance Reddick Legacy Award: “From Science Fiction (The Matrix trilogy), Fantasy (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure/Constantine) & Horror (Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula/The Devil’s Advocate), Keanu has done it all — not to mention Speed and Point Break. John Wick is dead (at least for now), but the world surrounding the action hero isn’t. The latest spin-off of the original series follows a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) and documents the origins behind the hotel-for-assassins centerpiece during 1970s New York City. The mini-series has a notable Oscar Winner, Mel Gibson, with a cast of unknowns anchoring the early days of The Continental. The mini-series has received a mixed response thus far. The rotten tomatoes score is nowhere near the John Wick films, with the lowest being the first movie. The world of John Wick itself has always been...

Well, Schmoes, as 2023 finally draws to a close, we reflect on a year full of ups and downs, thanks to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes resulting in many movies getting pushed to next year. If there is one thing for sure, there are always movies that are highly overrated and underrated by critics and fans alike. As the UnPopular Opinion Guy, I felt it was only fitting to issue my list of the movies I felt the masses got wrong. Some of these may shock you, and some may piss you off, but these are my honest-to-goodness perspective on the movies of 2023. If you disagree with any of the choices, please voice your opinion in the comments below. After all, the only opinion that really matters is yours, and I am just here to share mine.

Nine decades ago this December, moviegoers were witnessing the beginning of one of the most successful movie teams, as well as the demise of one of the most dramatic.
Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers made box office magic during the Depression-era 1930s in nine Art Deco musical comedy delights from Rko including 1934’s “The Gay Divorcee” and 1936’s “Swing Time.” Their chemistry was unmatched, and they literally made beautiful musical together introducing countless standards including the Oscar-winning “The Continental” and “The Way You Look Tonight.” And their dancing was robust, romantic and heavenly-just check out the “Never Gonna Dance” routine from “Swing Time.”

As we wrap up our year-end coverage, IndieWire looks back at the people, projects, and ideas that defined 2023 — and what’s coming next.
I miss the days when Hollywood believed a great TV show could sustain an entire network. You know, back when television was still growing, and rising brands were built around groundbreaking, widely respected original programs. HBO was where you watched “The Sopranos,” AMC had “Mad Men,” and Netflix streamed “Orange Is the New Black.” Premium cable expanded to basic cable, which expanded to streaming, which expanded and expanded and expanded — almost always by touting the next great series as the best reason to tune in, sign up, or seek out a previously undiscovered channel in your satellite guide.

Amid our nostalgia-mad monoculture, in the age of legacy sequels and the franchise-ation of movies, it often seems like we're in some sort of endlessly repeating paroxysm of déjà vu. Hollywood is notorious for doubling down on anything even marginally successful, often to disastrous effect. Take a look at the current plight of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has become so ubiquitous and tiresome that 2024 could be Kevin Feige's last chance to save it. Similarly, in the wake of the McU's dominance, studios have attempted their own version of a shared universe and mostly failed. "John Wick: Chapter 4" was an example of cinematic universe-building done right, but even Lionsgate struggled to expand that universe into prestige TV, with the ultimately pointless "The Continental" series.
Make no mistake, we're in for a continuing deluge of legacy sequels and IP fetishization, as studios scramble for some sort of consistency amid...

Jared Harris, Joseph Fiennes & Sheila Atim Leading A+E/Sky’s ‘Royal Kill List’
Jared Harris, Joseph Fiennes and Sheila Atim are leading an A+E Networks/Sky series about King Charles I from Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story producer 72 Films. Royal Kill List is Sky History’s latest docu-drama following in the footsteps of the likes of Royal Bastards: Rise of The Tudors and The Royal Mob. The three-part series looks back at one of the most seismic events in British royal history. In 1649, for the first and only time, a British monarch was publicly executed, having been tried and convicted of treason by Parliament. This bloody spectacle heralded 10 years of Britain as a republic before, in May 1660, the monarchy was restored with the accession of King Charles II. Told through dramatic reconstruction, Atim for the Royalists, Harris for the Regicides, and Fiennes for King Charles II will play out the Jacobean tragedy,...

Fans of the John Wick series didn’t have to wait long after Chapter 4 before they got even more content from the franchise, as Peacock debuted miniseries The Continental this September. But is three episodes really enough? And will Ballerina – with Ana de Armas as Rooney – really give fans their Wick fix when it arrives next June? To truly continue – and conclude? – the saga with Keanu Reeves, they’ll have to make John Wick 5. And with that, Reeves will have to be in it…right?
Responding to a question about the possibility of more installments of John Wick at Deadline’s Contenders Film Los Angeles, director Chad Stahelski said, “You never know…Keanu’s hard to kill.” He added, “But look, I love working with Keanu. At the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, director-producer Chad Stahelski and producer Erica Lee appeared to be putting the franchise to rest, as John Wick (Keanu Reeves) took a bullet to the gut in a duel, seemingly succumbing to his injuries. That being said, is there any way the hero of this franchise could be resurrected, as has been done with action heroes of films like Netflix’s Extraction?
“You never know,” Stahelski teased Saturday at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event. “Keanu’s hard to kill.”
“Never say never,” added Lee, in a conversation moderated by Justin Kroll, also featuring supervising sound editor Mark Stoeckinger.

John Wick: Chapter 4 became the entry that solidified the franchise as a big moneymaker. And although the ending had left the future open for possible sequels, Keanu Reeves has not been secretive about how much harder it is to keep up with the action and begged for a definite ending for the character. However, despite several spin-offs being released, the studio now smells the money and wants to immediately develop a direct follow-up to Chapter 4 with Reeves in tow. People keep asking if he’s back, and he hasn’t really had an answer, but yeah, the studio is thinking he’s back.
ScreenRant has reported that Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake has stated at a recent earnings call, courtesy of ComicBook.com, that the studio is now including a Chapter 5 in the development of future franchise content. Drake has said, “On the Wick side we got multiple spin-offs and a Wick Five.

When Chad Stahelski stopped by to chat with The Playlist for an upcoming episode of The Discourse with Mike D’Angelo, it wasn’t entirely about his “John Wick” franchise. But the action series did take up a giant chunk of the conversation, considering it’s Stahelski’s brainchild and what’s put him on the Hollywood map to make his “Highlander” remake and more. But does the future hold for the franchise after Peacock‘s “The Continental” and the upcoming spinoff “Ballerina,” specifically “John Wick 5,” which was originally announced in tandem with “John Wick: Chapter 4“?

John Wick continues to be the straw that stirs the drink at Lionsgate.
The home entertainment debut of the fourth film of the series and the premiere of its streaming spin-off “The Continental” lifted revenues at Lionsgate to just over $1 billion, beating Wall Street’s estimates. That was up from $875.2 million in the prior-year quarter. However, the company also reported a net loss to Lionsgate shareholders of $886.2 million, which it attributed to restructuring costs and a writedown related to its decision to have its Starz business exit Latin America and the United Kingdom. The company didn’t spill as much red ink as it did in the prior-year quarter when it reported a loss of $1.181 billion. Adjusted net income was $48.6 million and there was an adjusted loss per share of $3.79.

Lionsgate trimmed its net losses by more than half and came in above market expectations on Thursday for its second fiscal quarter of 2024. The Santa Monica-based studio reported second-quarter revenue of $1 billion, a 14.2% increase from $875.2 million this time last year, but also said it lost $886.2 million, an improvement from a net loss of $1.81 billion.

Lionsgate’s recorded a diluted net loss to shareholders of $3.79, less than half of the diluted net loss of $7.95 last year.
Meanwhile, Starz gained 200,000 domestic subscribers amid the quarter. The motion picture and TV production segments reported revenue of $789.8 million, an increase of 21% from the $654.9 million earned in the prior year’s second quarter.

Just when the entertainment world felt like it couldn't possibly sustain even just a single shared universe on top of what we already have, yet another contender is about to enter the ring. The "John Wick" franchise's first attempt at expanding its influence to the small screen with "The Continental," uh, didn't go very well, to put it mildly. But as the old adage goes, if at first you don't succeed at strip-mining IP for every cent it's worth, try, try again.
The good news is that, this time around, director Chad Stahelski will be much more involved with at least two new upcoming "John Wick" shows. We've known about the Ana de Armas-starring "Ballerina" spinoff film, but this is the first we've heard about both an anime spin-off and a separate live-action series that will dive even deeper into the mythical world-building from the movies. In an appearance...

Exclusive: Peacock is touting the success of The Continental: From the World of John Wick.
The Lionsgate-produced series premiered its first episode on September 22, only to become Peacock’s biggest original launch of the year, meaning that the episode reached more accounts in its first weekend than any other original offering, according to NBCUniversal.
Following the release of the remaining two episodes, The Continental now ranks among the top five Peacock originals of all time in terms of reach, joining the ranks of Bel-Air, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, Poker Face, and Based on a True Story.
Based on the current top five, it appears Peacock is finding success with both existing IP as well as original concepts.
Of course, The Continental falls under the former, as it explores the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins that is at the center of the John Wick universe. Though its already a billion-dollar franchise,...

The Continental: From the World of John Wick has wrapped up its three-episode run, but a number of questions were left unanswered, which has fans wondering whether season 2 might be in the works. I haven’t had a chance to watch the series for myself yet, so to be safe, I’ll just say watch out for Spoilers.
Related The Continental producers didn’t know if John Wick spinoff would work without Keanu Reeves
While speaking with GamesRadar, The Continental director and executive producer Albert Hughes said that while he “hasn’t heard anything” about a potential season 2, he has been “daydreaming” about the next stage of the story. “I would like to see if [Winston] becomes what he hated,” Hughes explained. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The red bird landing on the ledge with Cormac in episode 1, to then appearing in the penthouse with Winston during the finale, that’s...

As the first season of Peacock’s John Wick universe spin-off series The Continental comes to an end with the third and final episode Theatre of Pain, viewers can’t help but feel discontent as to how hastily the finale wrapped up the narrative. Previously, viewers learned how Winston’s elder brother, the ‘Nam war vet Frankie Scott, undertook the dangerous mission of stealing the High Table coin press from New York Continental in order to earn a life of freedom with his wife, Yen, inciting the ire of his mob boss and Continental manager Cormac O’Conner in the process. Winston got tangled up in that mess as well, and he had to witness his brother sacrifice his life to save him and Yen. A vengeful Winston decided to take revenge and put an end to the sordid history the Scott brothers shared with Cormac, and in order to do so,...

In the first “John Wick,” Keanu Reeves’ titular character — a former assassin brought out of retirement after some goons kill his dog and steal his car — confirms his return with the often quoted line: “Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.” And one of the many joys of “The Continental,” the new “John Wick” spin-off series that concludes Friday, is the fact that Albert Hughes is back.
He directed “Menace II Society” and “Dead Presidents” with his brother Allen. For “The Continental,” he helmed “Night 1” and Friday’s “Night 3” – essentially two feature-length movies set within the “John Wick” universe.
Not that he was totally sold on the idea, at least initially.
Before Hughes signed on, they wanted a single filmmaker to do all three nights. He described that idea as “daunting.” But then he started thinking about the Old Hollywood system, where directors would make multiple movies every year.

The biggest concern about The Continental after watching the series premiere was not the quality of the product.
In The Continental Season 1 Episode 1 review, we mentioned that the show created a certain hunger that it might not be able to satisfy in three episodes, given that it was a limited series.
A lot of what it did in most episodes was painting broadly through characters and plot points, and while that might have been enough to keep the story going for that episode, it might not have been enough for the bigger picture, which is the show.
The Continental: From the World of John Wick Season 1 Episode 3 concluded Winston's origin story as far as his relationship with The Continental was concerned. With regard to that point, you could not have asked for better execution.

The Continental Hotel offers a lot of resources to whoever controls it. Cormac knew, leveraged, and held to it as much as possible.
After Frankie's death, Winston decided to go to war with Cormac, and on The Continental: From the World of John Wick Season 1 Episode 2, he formulated a plan that included seeking allies, finding weapons, and exploiting weaknesses in Cormac's people.
We also got a deeper insight into the relationship between Frankie and Winston, where Cormac was concerned.
The eighty-minute episode painted in broad strokes, attempting to flesh out characters and answering some lingering questions about the lives the characters had led before so that the decisions they made would feel justified.
It was no secret that Frankie hated Cormac -- I mean, he stole the most valuable item under his care – but the reason behind this hate was unclear.

The sound team behind the John Wick spin-off The Continental shared its secrets behind bringing the Peacock show to life.
Keanu Reeves’ John Wick franchise has long been a beloved blockbuster action series on the big screen. However, up until now, Wick’s unique world and bone-breaking fights never expanded past the films.
But with The Continental, that’s all set to change. The streaming show tells a story over three installments which follows a younger version of Ian McShane's Winston working to take ownership of the infamous assassin hotel, which is run in the series by Mel Gibson’s maniac crime boss.

The people person’s paper people could be returning to a screen near you in the next few years. That’s according to Jonathan Handel and Matthew Belloni of Puck News, who say that Greg Daniels — who was responsible for creating the American version of “The Office” — is currently working on a reboot of the NBC comedy.
There were few details available on the project, as it appears to still be in the planning stages. Those plans will be able to continue soon, as Daniels and other Hollywood writers will likely be able to get back to work in the coming weeks. Writers have been pencils-down since May 1 when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike, but a tentative agreement struck over the weekend with producers means that they could be back to work soon.

Mel Gibson and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson are toplining Boneyard, an indie crime-thriller that has begun shooting in Las Vegas.
Brian Van Holt, who starred opposite Kate McKinnon in limited series Jo vs. Carole, is also starring in the feature whose cast includes Nora Zehetner (The Right Stuff). Co-starring is Michael Sirow, most recently seen in SXSW movie The Wrath Of Becky.
Colin Bates, who produced the Halle Berry thriller Kidnap and the Arnold Schwarzenegger zombie drama Maggie, is producing the hot indie with Vincent McDaniel.
Inspired by true events, Boneyard tells of an FBI special agent, played by Gibson, who along with the Albuquerque police department, is hunting for a serial killer nicknamed The Bone Collector. The chief of police and one of his officers, however, have a contrary view of the manhunt, believing someone in their own department may be the killer.
Jackson is playing the chief while Van Holt plays the officer who is connected to the case through a missing niece.
