Superbly played by Jason. Compelling to watch.

David Jason shows us once again how versatile he is. As well as being a very fine comedy actor, he is perfectly suited to serious parts too. He is marvellous as Micawber - he makes the character believeable and realistic, as well as throwing in a touch of humour now and then. Surely this man deserves a knighthood for all his wonderful work in acting throughout the years.

John Sullivan and David Jason reunite
studioAT31 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After his planned adaptation of 'David Copperfield' fell through at the BBC John Sullivan regrouped and wrote this four part comedy drama centring on the character of 'Micawber' at ITV and starring his old friend David Jason.

The result is patchy at best. There are some lovely moments, and its a lovely performance from Jason, but equally it feels a bit drawn out at an hour an episode, and once the debt collector plot has ended at the end of episode three, episode four feels pointless. It also features some very cringe inducing moments involving Jason and another of Sullivan's old friends, Jan Francis.

It was a nice attempt by Sullivan to prove that he could do something different, but I was never completely convinced that this show worked. The fact that it never came back is perhaps telling.
