This is a review of the episode concerning REQUIEM FOR A DREAM . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . which probably ran during the initial 2001 season. REQUIEM writer\director Darren Aronofsky does most of the talking here, though the clips shown from the feature movie include Ellen Burstyn (Sara Goldfarb), Jared Leto (Sara's son Harry Goldfarb), and Jennifer Connelly (Harry's lover, Mary). Mr. Aronofsky reveals that he grew up near New York's Coney Island, under the Jetway. Therefore, it was important to him to have that Modern Age audio portent of Impending Doom pervade the soundtrack for REQUIEM. Darren also discloses some of the Nitty Gritty details behind the fast-action visual montages required to turn Burstyn into a Geriatric Speed Freak. The writer\director (who Helmed the flick formerly known as PIE, as well) concludes by stating that "We didn't want to be accused of being an MTV movie--that is, style without substance," in explaining his motivation to make the REQUIEM visuals as squalid, putrid, and rancid as possible. (In comparison, the dead glutton's kitchen in SEVEN looks like something out of BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS.)
