Exclusive: Kurt Sutter and Katey Sagal have teamed up for their first podcast, Pie. People. Influences. Experiences. The program will start April 2, available on all podcast players and YouTube.
They describe Pie as an intimate parlor conversation exploring the ingredients that “baked up” each guest. It is a respectful, deep dive into nature and nurture — family, faith, friends, hometowns, schooling, mentors, tormentors, etc. It will be the heart-to-heart chat that gives us some authentic insight into each guest’s personal and professional choices — in the arts, athletics, healthcare, politics, etc.
I can testify that between them, this couple can cover a healthy span of topics. A few years back, I convinced Sutter to co-live blog the Emmys for Deadline. Only when I arrived at their home did I learn that Kurt had been so busy as the writer, director and producer of my fave FX series Sons of Anarchy, that...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was a major moment in vampire media, but the show didn't limit itself to fanged heartthrobs. Buffy fought her fair share of demons and deities, but there was one type of villain that kept popping up throughout the hit series' seven seasons — robots. Probably the most memorable robot in the show is the Buffybot, a robot girlfriend commissioned by bad-boy vamp Spike to quench his unrequited crush. But before Buffybot, the android that started it all was Ted.
Ted is, by all appearances, your run-of-the-mill middle-aged man from suburbia, and he's dating Buffy's mom in the season 2 episode "Ted." He manages to win all of her friends over, but Buffy isn't having it. As it turns out, her suspicions are proven correct — Ted was a killer robot all along.
The robot is played by John Ritter, who was best known for the long-running sitcoms "Three's Company" and,...

"Good night, John-Boy. Good night, Elizabeth. And good night, daddy. Good night, son. And good night, mama. Good night, Mary Ellen. Good night, Jim Bob." Even if you've never watched a single moment of the classic TV show "The Waltons," the impact the series has had on television continues on even to this day. With the series' roots stemming back all the way to one of the most hated episodes of "The Twilight Zone" in history, references to "The Waltons" have extended all the way to films like 2016's "The Nice Guys," where Matt Bomber's villainous Dr. Malek is given the code name "John Boy" as he shares a similar facial birthmark to John-Boy actor Richard Thomas.

Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 classic "The Birds" is a staple of Hollywood cinema, and it had to age a bit to earn its spot in the canon. The film only earned one Oscar nomination for special effects, but it is easily one of the most well-remembered works in the accomplished director's oeuvre. Almost half a century has passed since the film's release and many of its main actors are no longer with us. Most of them went on to have storied careers, some of them were already established figures of the entertainment industry, but unfortunately only two of them are still alive today.
Her character Melanie barely survives "The Birds," but Tippi Hedren is one of two stars in the film that has lived to see the 2020s. Hedren worked with Hitchcock again on his thriller "Marnie," but did not have much of a career afterwards. She did go on to...

Suzanne Somers’ death on Oct. 15 ensures a Three’s Company reboot would be impossible. It would have been unlikely before the starlet’s death, but Somers wasn’t against the idea. Now, though, there is just a single member of the original main cast that is still alive. That makes us immeasurably sad.
Joyce DeWitt is the only remaining original ‘Three’s Company’ cast member still living
Joyce DeWitt, who played Janet Wood on Three’s Company, is the last living original cast member. DeWitt appeared in 171 episodes of the iconic series, working with both Ritter and Somers as a main cast member from the pilot onward.

Ritter was born in Burbank, CA on Sept. 17, 1948 to singing cowboy star father Tex Ritter and actress mother Dorothy Fay. From a young age, it was clear that John would be following in his parents’ footsteps.
He is most recognized for his role as Jack Tripper in Three’s Company, for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. But he had a lengthy and varied career that included roles in such projects as Sling Blade, Problem Child, Bad Santa, and 8 Simple Rules.

Months after his life was suddenly cut short, Emmy winner Leslie Jordan has a chance to receive more TV academy love for his final small screen performance as Phil on Fox’s “Call Me Kat.” If he does land in this year’s Best Comedy Supporting Actor lineup, he will join a group of 12 other comedy or drama series regulars who posthumously achieved Emmy recognition. If he scores his second victory, he will make history as the first deceased male actor to win an Emmy for a continuing program.
“Call Me Kat” was the first and only multi-season series on which Jordan played a regular role. In his last few episodes, his character, who worked as the head baker at a Kentucky cat cafe, finally found true love with drag performer Jalen, aka Queen Dicktoria (John Griffin). Kaley Cuoco is soaking up new-mom life to the fullest extent. The actor gushed about her and boyfriend Tom Pelphrey's 5-week-old daughter, Matilda, at a John Ritter Foundation fundraiser event in Los Angeles on May 4. "She's thriving. She's the best," Cuoco told "Entertainment Tonight" during a red carpet interview, adding that she's been documenting every little moment at home. "I've become that mom who posts every freaking thing. She does something, and I'm like, 'I have to post that!' I'm so obsessed." It sounds like Matilda's personality is already similar to that of her mom. "She was laughing today, full-on laughing, and I was like, 'This kid is hysterical!'" Cuoco said.
"She's thriving. She's the best."
In February, Cuoco opened up about her refreshingly laid-back approach to motherhood, admitting that she wasn't reading books about parenting before giving birth. That hasn't changed. "Still haven't read a damn thing,...

Although “Schmigadoon!” is now campaigning for this year’s Emmys as a scripted variety series, its cast members can still be nominated as comedic actors. According to Gold Derby’s odds, the performer most likely to score a supporting bid for the Apple TV Plus program’s second season is Jane Krakowski, who plays the show-stopping role of singing lawyer Bobby Flanagan. With Best Comedy Supporting Actress notices for “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” already under her belt, she could now make Emmys history as the first actress to be nominated in the same category for regular performances on three different continuing series.

If you were around in the 1990s and of the age to watch comedy films, you've probably come across the films "Tommy Boy" and "Black Sheep" starring comedians David Space and the late Chris Farley. The two were a dynamic duo on "Saturday Night Live," with Spade often playing the straight man to Farley's wild and goofy antics. Farley died of a combination of a drug overdose and heart disease in December 1997, but while they were together, they were fabulously funny.
/Film's own Joe Garza did a list of Farley's top sketches from SNL, including Lunch Lady Land, the Chippendale's sketch with Patrick Swayze, and of course, Matt Foley, motivational speaker. That final one is one of the most ridiculously weird things I've seen on TV, and watching Spade try not to break as Farley's Foley talks about living in a van down by the river and throwing himself onto a table is pure joy.

Jason Ritter is getting candid about being a nepotism baby.
While appearing on Thursday’s episode of SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, the Parenthood actor credits his first acting job as a child, voicing the Little Acorn in the cartoon The Real Story of O Christmas Tree, to his father, the late John Ritter.
“I will say, without any hesitation, this was like a full-on nepotism hire. I will admit that,” he joked. “He [John] for sure got me the job. I did try to stay away from that later.”
The 8 Simple Rules star, who died of an aortic dissection in 2003 at the age of 54, voiced Piney, the Little Acorn’s uncle in the cartoon.

We have some sad news to share today, as Hollywood has lost one of its most legendary icons: Raquel Welch has passed away at the age of 82. Deadline reports that Welch’s passing was confirmed by her reps at Media 4 Management, who simply said that she had died after a brief illness.
Welch was born Jo Raquel Tejada on September 5, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, but her family moved to San Diego, California when little Raquel was just two years old. She knew as a youngster that she wanted to get into the entertainment industry, and studied ballet for several years while entertaining – and winning – beauty contests. She attended San Diego State College on a theater arts scholarship, but despite doing some stage acting and landing a job as a weather presenter on the local news, it took a while for her to break through into films. History was made when the 2022 Primetime Emmy nominations were announced, as Chadwick Boseman (“What If…?”) and Jessica Walter (“Archer”) became the first pair of direct competitors to be recognized posthumously. They are both up for the Best Character Voice-Over Performance prize after having passed away in August 2020 and March 2021, respectively.
Walter is now the only performer to ever receive two post-death Emmy bids, having just contended in the same category last summer. Now including Boseman, the list of departed acting Emmy nominees consists of 26 entrants, four of whom were honored with wins.
The first actor to be nominated for and win an Emmy posthumously was Alice Pearce, who was awarded the Best Comedy Supporting Actress trophy for “Bewitched” two months after her death in 1966. The other three champs, all of whom triumphed for TV movie performances, are supporting players David Burns and Diana Hyland and lead Raul Julia.

One of the biggest surprises on Emmy nominations morning popped up in an unexpected category, when two CBS multi-camera sitcoms landed nominations for Comedy Directing. Freshman series “B Positive” earned a spot for its pilot episode directed by James Burrows, while concluding series “Mom” also nabbed a nomination for its long-time director James Widdoes, the first time the eight-season show received recognition in this category.
Even more surprising than seeing both of these Chuck Lorre shows get nominated is how long it’s been since two multi-cam sitcoms have received citations from the Emmys for directing in the same season: a whopping 16 years. The last duo to pull off this feat was “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Will & Grace” back in 2005, with the latter directed by Burrows. Both lost to the first episode of “Desperate Housewives,” which kicked off an unbroken trend of non-studio-audience shows running the table in this category.

Mark York, the actor best known for playing Billy Merchant in seasons 2-5 of The Office, has died of an undisclosed illness. He was 55.
On the hit NBC comedy, Billy Merchant is the properties manager of the office park where Dunder Mifflin is located. The recurring character was, like York, a paraplegic who, like everyone else on the show, is subject to Michael Scott’s social awkwardness and inappropriate behavior.
According to an obituary posted online by the Kreitzer Funeral Home, York had been paraplegic since 1988 when, per his personal web site, he suffered “an almost fatal, life-changing auto accident.” That new lease on life led him back to school and, through a friend, to acting.

For her “Schitt’s Creek” role as Moira Rose, Catherine O’Hara won the Emmy, the TCA, the Golden Globe, the Critics Choice and the SAG Award. In fact, she’s one of only four people to claim all five TV awards in the same year. As there are no more kudos this season that reward acting for television, O’Hara’s time in the awards spotlight is officially over, something that should bring delight to Kaley Cuoco. After losing to O’Hara multiple times in recent weeks, the star of “The Flight Attendant” is now Gold Derby’s pick to win the 2021 Emmy for Best Comedy Actress.

The predicted Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress Golden Globe lineup has had the same five names for a while — Catherine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”), Elle Fanning (“The Great”), Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”), Issa Rae (“Insecure”) and Jane Levy (“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”) — but don’t be shocked if it experiences some turbulence soon. Since “The Flight Attendant” premiered on Thanksgiving on HBO Max, Kaley Cuoco has ascended all the way to seventh place, behind Lily Collins (“Emily in Paris”) in sixth. In our Screen Actors Guild Awards odds, she’s in 11th place. And you would be making a choice as bad as one of Cassie’s on the show if you don’t even consider Cuoco.
Based on the Chris Bohjalian novel of the same name, “The Flight Attendant” follows Cassie Bowden (Cuoco), a hard-partying hot mess of a flight attendant who always makes sure she has vodka and a guy within reach.
