Good

This movie had the potential to be incredible. It's the best stoner film yet, but there is more to it than just getting high and giggling. It's definitely not the thing to see if you're in the mood for something fun and uplifting, or something with tons of thrills and action. The metaphors in this movie are abundant. Are there annoying things in this movie? Yes, like the overdone puppetry. But the movie has enough to keep you entertained. I think it is still a reasonable film. It was really beyond over the top. This film is not as bad as they say. Heartfelt and riveting from the first frame to the last. 7 out of 10.

What an absolute waste of time!

I guess, having read the title of this comment, you might be thinking I'm some sort of prudish, frustrated spinster who couldn't get into a convent. I'm NOT! (After all, the DVD title attracted me in the first place didn't it!)

I enjoy a good joke as much as any guy but this simply isn't funny. What's more though, it isn't particularly clever either. As Lord of The Lake has already written, what these two morons do in front of a theatre audience is what we did as very immature kids. It was pathetic then - but then that is, I guess, part of growing up! These guys obviously haven't yet completed that process! Perhaps they get some sort of personal thrill from doing their ridiculous act in front of grown women who would smack their kids if they caught them doing the same. Yet, when someone tells them its "entertainment", they nervously giggle whilst their stupid menfolk laugh.

As far as I'm concerned, the worst bit is that it's Australian! I have always thought American humour was pretty unsubtle and in-your-face, but this is nothing short of pathetically insulting. The audience seemed to be genuinely amused and I wondered if this is just a Melbourne phenomenon - yet Melburnians always seem to want their city to be considered as the "cultural" epicenter of Australia. If Puppetry of the Penis had emanated from Sydney, I would probably have accepted it as typical of that sleazy city. (I guess, by now, readers have realised I'm neither Victorian or from New South Wales! After watching this DVD, I'm glad!)

However, let's try to be a little bit objective here. IMDb ratings are world-wide and this gets 6.1. Therefore, I'm seriously considering hiring a private detective (no pun intended) to see if he can find my sense of humour because it was certainly absent when I subjected myself to this garbage.

Unconventional, goofy and altogether entertaining...
Built1116 August 2005
Ingenious, hilarious and amazingly creative, this show should be required viewing for anyone who is nervous and uptight with full frontal male nudity. Sex, lust and titillation are completely absent, making this joyously merry routine fresh, silly and totally harmless. Indeed, the DVD should be rated PG simply because there is no sex, drugs, foul language or violence involved.

Two average guys have managed to invent dozens of "puppets" using only their genitalia, along with a (very) occasional prop. Unabashed and unselfconscious, they twist, wrap, stack, pull, prod and otherwise manipulate their equipment into everything from inanimate objects to "live" characters, much to the delight and applause of the audience.

Finally, someone has the guts to not only unmask that part of the anatomy that seems to embarrass everyone else, but they make it the star of a delightfully refreshing show. And they do it with such aplomb! It isn't about a sexual organ. It's about provoking laughter and joy through innovation and creativity.

Watching, one has the feeling that this is just a couple of ordinary guys goofing off to impress friends. Indeed, they started their "act" in the local pubs in and around Melbourne, Australia. And the show retains that chummy, ad-lib feeling, as if they've just thrown it together. Their running commentary is far from polished, making it that much funnier. And while the humor is by no means intellectual, it's far from being low-brow. They don't try to be the stars of the show; they let their "puppets" be the stars.

I would have appreciated better camera work. As if the director was a little disconcerted with showing too many close-ups of penises, the camera frequently cuts from the stage to the audience. Indeed, a number of times, just as the "puppeteer" revealed his latest "puppet", the camera cut away to record audience reactions before I could see the creation, leaving me wondering what they were laughing so hard about. Likewise, it was difficult to see some of the creations in the wide shots, despite the close-ups projected onto a huge on-stage screen. The projected images didn't film well, tending to be hazy and dark. Hence, the rating of "9" instead of "10".

Overall, this DVD is a party waiting to happen. Grab a few friends, open the bar, put out some snacks and get ready for an hour of giggles, laughs and outright guffaws. Both men and women will crack up at the antics on the stage. (Ladies, it's perfect entertainment for a bachelorette party!)

Infantile

Warning: Spoilers
I don't get it. I am a 45 year old male with an infantile sense of humour. So Puppetry of the Penis should be my kind of film. Although the content of the film sounds titillating, I did all these things when I was 5 years old, as I'm sure every male has done since caveman days. Well, maybe not some of the stretchy parts. There is nothing new here.

In this remarkably boring film, which I saw at a dinner party, two adult naked Australian males play and make shapes with their penises. At the film's breathtaking climax, one of the guys sticks his anus in a girl's face and has her blow on it. (Oops, was that a spoiler?) What more can be said?

Entertaining Genitalia

I can think of only a handful of times when I was more impressed with a pair of penises. These gentleman use what God gave 'em, their junk, to entertain and amaze. Half stand-up (not literally), half circus side show. Great watch.. it's been a long time since I've laughed as hard as I did watching this show.

hilariously funny.

These 2 guys started out from nothing after doing a few party/pub tricks. I don't think they knew how their show was going to fair, but anyone who has seen this movie or been to one of the live performances would have to agree that 99% of the audience were in fits of laughter. The show became so popular that they had to call for more auditions here in Australia as well as the UK and US and there is today (2010) several of them in circuit across the globe. The fact that it started out in 2001 and is still going strong in 2010 speaks for itself. The show has been to our town twice and is always fully booked out.
