You may not readily group Cheryl Strayed with Elizabeth II, Elvis Presley or Annie Wilkes, but the self-help author could soon have at least one thing in common with them. If Kathryn Hahn (“Tiny Beautiful Things”) receives an Emmy nomination for playing a version of the role that nabbed Reese Witherspoon (“Wild”) an Oscar bid in 2015, Strayed will join that list of real and fictional personas whose depictions have garnered multiple actors awards recognition across media.
Two-time Emmy winner Merritt Wever could also crash the Best Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress race for playing Strayed’s mother, a role that earned Laura Dern her second Oscar nomination. According to Gold Derby’s Emmy odds, the two are safer bets than the show itself, which has yet to crack the Limited Series top 10.

By its very nature as a minimalist experience, there’s very little for Strayed Lights to hide behind as a game. Aside from Austin Wintory’s evocative score, the debut title for Stratsbourg-based development studio Embers is about as stripped down as you can get without resorting to Thomas Was Alone levels of sentient geometric shapes.
As far as one can tell, the game tells the story of a bipedal creature held together by pure light. They’re ripped apart by an encroaching darkness, and the only thing that can fix them is to traipse through a portal and confront the various hideously mutated entities born of their wayward sparks. There’s no dialogue in the game, and no text outside of menus, just a few neon character models emoting their fluorescent asses off in a purgatorial world.

It was on the set of Wild that Tiny Beautiful Things author and executive producer Cheryl Strayed knew she wanted to work with Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Dern again after having “so much fun” collaborating together.

Strayed said Saturday at the Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event that the trio ended up becoming “very dear friends” adding that their work is something that she “deeply admired” and women who she could trust would honor her memoir.
Executive producer Liz Tigelaar said that she had been a fan of Strayed’s work and when she was approached by Witherspoon’s producing partner Lauren Neustadter about the adaptation she immediately said, “Yes, I’m in! And then, I was like, ‘I have no idea, how do you adapt advice columns?'”

We’re picking up bad vibrations in Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things.
In Episode 6 of the limited series, which is based on Cheryl Strayed’s book of essays collected from her Dear Sugar advice column, a private moment of bliss quickly turns into one of horror: Clare’s sex toy malfunctions, zapping her in places a woman should never be zapped. Harrowing, right?

Time has a funny way of slipping in Tiny Beautiful Things, Liz Tigelaar’s adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s collection of essays. When 49-year-old Clare (Kathryn Hahn) regresses into the bad habits of her youth, she catches a glimpse of her 22-year-old self (Sarah Pidgeon) in a rearview mirror. When her husband, Danny (Quentin Plair), extends an olive branch during a protracted rough patch, she sees him briefly not as the exhausted middle-aged man he is now but as the hopeful 20something (SteVonté Hart) he was at the start of their romance.
It’s not time travel in the DeLorean sense; Tiny Beautiful Things is rooted firmly in the real world, where temporality only moves one way as far as we know. But the switcheroos make for a vivid representation of the series’ specific brand of empathy — one that insists on appreciating its characters not just for who they are...

NEW YORK -- Indie banner Wellspring has acquired all U.S. rights to French writer-helmer Andre Techine's latest effort, Strayed, starring Emmanuelle Beart. Based on Gilles Perrault's best-selling novel, the film premiered this year in Cannes. Wellspring is eyeing an August release for the film, a period piece that follows a young widowed schoolteacher who flees the German occupation of Paris with her children. During their escape, the family meets a charismatic teenager who helps them survive in the wilderness. Techine's credits include the Catherine Deneuve starrer My Favorite Season and Alice and Martin, starring Juliette Binoche. Strayed is a French-British co-production, which was sold though the Wild Bunch sales banner. Wellspring acquisitions head Marie Therese Guirgis brokered the pact with Wild Bunch's Carole Baraton. Past and upcoming theatrical releases for Wellspring include Alexander Sokurov's Father and Son, Jafar Panahi's Crimson Gold and Girlhood, by documentary filmmaker Liz Garbus.
