Sympatico, a production partnership combining the U.K.’s Argo Films and Malaysia’s Double Vision, is hatching a busy slate of film and TV productions that it says will be authentically Asian.
“Too often, Southeast Asia has been portrayed in a mix of styles on screen with, for example, iconic establishing shots of Kuala Lumpur ‘s Twin Towers soon giving way to a location that resembles Vietnam, mixed with Hong Kong by way of Vancouver,” said Min Lim, head of production at Double Vision and a partner in Sympatico.
The new venture starts life with six projects in active development, including two that it expects to put into production this year.
Double Vision is the production arm of the Vision New Media group that has over 35 years of experience in features, dramas, sitcoms, reality-game shows, magazine shows, documentaries, children’s programs and variety shows. Double Vision has in-house production and post-production facilities,...

Hey everybody, its Britain’s sweetheart Orlando Bloom… You remember Orlando Bloom, the bow and arrow fella from The Lord of the Rings or the lovable simpleton boxer from The Calcium Kid. No?. I’m just Kidding! I know we all know who Orlando Bloom is but I can assure you we have not seen him like this before.
An ultra badass..!
That’s right Orlando Bloom has completely reinvented himself as a punchy, kicky, ready for business, bonafide action star! Sure we have seen him firing arrows or swinging swords but The Shanghai Job sees him swinging fists and sweeping legs in director Charles Martin’s (Skins, Marcella) debut feature, set in the stunning locales of Shanghai.

Screen spoke to the first-time feature producer of well-received Edinburgh title Moon Dogs, backed by Welsh, Irish and Scottish film bodies.
Moon Dogs is a gem that unearthed at the Edinburgh Film Festival, a Scottish Y Tu Mamá También that sees two half-brothers (Jack Parry Jones and newcomer Christy O’Donnell) journey from the Shetlands to Glasgow pursuing romantic and musical dreams.
First time feature film producer Kathy Speirs, who set up her company Un Helly Aa / Clydebank Films in 2012, tells how she managed to persuade the Welsh, Scottish and Irish film boards to finance a film [budgeted between £500k-£1m] from a first time director (Philip John) and producer, featuring no star names.
What were the origins of the film?
The film came about because of my friendship with screenwriters Raymond Friel and Derek Boyle, who I have known for a number of years and they have written two feature films, The Calcium Kid (2004) with Orlando Bloom and Botched (2007), starring...

Orlando Bloom’s star was on the rise in the early 2000s. Becoming a household name following his swashbuckling antics in the first three Pirates flicks, his next move should have secured his status as part of the Hollywood elite – buddying up with Peter Jackson. As fan fave Legolas, surely being a part of one of the most treasured fantasy adaptations would have confirmed his pulling power? His forays into smaller character pieces, Cameron Crowe’s Elizabethtown, Brit dramedy The Calcium Kid, showcased his abilities without the use of a codpiece – and sadly, that was that. After re-joining Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth universe for The Hobbit, he now looks set to dip his toes back into the azure blue waters of the caribbean. Yep – Bloom is in talks to reprise his role as Will Turner for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Disney's arcade hero pulps the competition and British romcom I Give It a Year takes a respectable third place at the box office
The winner
Ending Les Miserables' impressive four-week reign at the chart summit, Wreck-It Ralph smashes its way to the top of the UK box office with a robust £4.53m, the biggest three-day tally for an animated feature since Ice Age 4 last July. Among other recent animations, Madagascar 3 posted a bigger opening number, but its £6.03m debut included £2.39m in previews. Similarly, Brave's first weekend of wide play (£5.27m) included significant previews (£2.67m).
While Wreck-It Ralph's Us opening of $49.1m last November represented the highest ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios, the UK result can't quite make an equivalent claim, since Tangled debuted here in January 2011 with £5.11m. Disney-owned Pixar, of course, has achieved even bigger numbers. Disney scored some big PR wins with visiting voice cast...

Check This out! This is a music video of “Smile Around the Face,” by European electronic music artist Four Tet. Not only is it a great song, and a great video, but it is one of the finest examples of non-verbal acting I have ever seen in my life. The actor in the video is Mark Heap. Really, do check it out.
I know that this is completely out of the blue, but as I’ve recently come across this actor, I figured I’d help spread the news that he’s fabulous. Heap is an Indian-born English actor who has been doing mostly TV work as of late. I would Really like to see this guy do more movies, and get into some more significant roles. Not that he hasn’t done movies, oh no! Heap has seen roles in such films as Stardust, The Calcium Kid, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory...

Phase 4 Films is picking up the pace.
The new distribution company, which last year released "50 Dead Men Walking," has acquired North American rights to the action thriller "Dead Man Running," starring rapper-actor Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. The company plans to release the film this year.
Tamer Hassan, Danny Dyer, Brenda Blethyn and Monet Mazur also star in the story of an ex-con (Hassan) given 24 hours to pay back a loan shark (Jackson). Alex De Rakoff ("The Calcium Kid") directed.
" 'Dead Man Running' is a heart-pounding, fast-paced adrenaline rush with 50 Cent, who once again proves how multitalented he is, adept in crossing over from music to movies," Phase 4 president and CEO Berry Meyerowitz said.
The deal was negotiated by Meyerowitz and Larry Greenberg of Phase 4 with Simon Barnes of London-based Park Entertainment and producer Alan Latham. Park retains the international sales rights.

Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has joined the cast of writer/director Alex de Rakoff's indie gangster flick Dead Man Running. The rapper will play a ruthless loan shark in the movie, which details a criminal world as hard hit by the recession as Wall Street. Jackson , whose film credits include Get Rich or Die Tryin' and Righteous Kill, will share the screen with Tamer Hassan (Layer Cake), Danny Dyer (The Business), Brenda Blethyn (Secrets and Lies) and Monet Mazur (Stoned). Set in London, Running centers on an ex-con trying to go straight who is given 24 hours to raise 100,000 pounds ($150,000) to pay off Jackson's loan shark or become a "dead man running." The mission takes him from the dog tracks of East London to the underground drug scene of rural Manchester as they try every trick and scam in the book to get the cash before it's too late. Rakoff previously wrote and directed The Calcium Kid,...
