Saathiya Starred Rani Mukerji & Vivek Oberoi With Tabu & Shah Rukh Khan In Special Roles (Photo Credit –IMDb)
Saathiya was released 23 years ago! Yes, let that sink in. The year when Adnan Sami just Udi udi-ed his way to our hearts. The year Sonu Nigam peaked with his notes, and Gulzar peaked with his pen while he wrote, “Maarva ki raag mein, Meer ki baat ho!” The year Shah Rukh Khan established how cameos should and could be done!
Starring Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji, the film was an unexpected success for its unique storytelling, mixing timezones, a fresh style for the Indian audiences in a commercial film.
For the first time, I watched this Shaad Ali film on TV in 2006 or so, and I loved it. Of course, who does not love a Yash Raj Film? And I craved watching it in theaters. Thanks to Mumbai, I got this chance...

TollywoodThe Bollywood actor made his debut in Tollywood in 2010 playing the villain in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Rakta Charitra I’.Digital NativeDigital NativeBollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has been signed up to play the baddie in Ram Charan Teja’s upcoming film, which will be directed by Boyapati Srinu. According to sources in tinsel town, the director was looking to rope in an actor to play this ruthless character and finally zeroed in on Vivek Oberoi. The last time the actor was seen playing the villain was in the 2015 Ajith starrer Vivegam, which was directed by Siva. The shooting for this film, which has not been titled yet, began in Vijayawada recently. The director is reported to have shot the intro scene with nearly 2,000 junior artistes. This proves that Ram Charan’s magnum opus will be made on a grand scale. Ram Charan is currently busy giving the finishing touches to the Sukumar directorial Rangasthalam that is gearing up for release on March 30. In this movie, Ram Charan is paired with Samantha for the first time and his different get-up would be a treat to watch, say sources. He will be joining the sets of Boyapati Srinu’s film soon after he is done with the shooting for this film. Vivek Oberoi made his acting debut with the 2002 release Company, which won him the Filmfare Best Debut Award and Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. He then went on to star in films such as Road, Saathiya, Yuva, Kaal, Rakta Charitra I & II and so on. The last Bollywood flick he starred in was Bank Chor, in which he played a Cbi officer. It may be mentioned here that Vivek Oberoi made his debut in Tollywood in 2010 with Rakta Charitra I, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, in which he played the villain. Sources say his performance in that film was one of the reasons for Boyapati to rope him in for the Ram Charan starrer. (Content provided by Digital Native)...

I had the pleasure of attending the Ar Rahman “Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” concert on 8th July, at the Sse Arena, Wembley celebrating 25 years of the maestro’s music. When you hear the name Ar Rahman, you immediately think of a plethora of songs which he has expertly composed and sung, and during the evening, it was a real treat to hear these very songs performed live. Armed with a great line up of singers, Ar Rahman was accompanied by Neeti Mohan (‘Jiya Re’ – Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Jonita Gandhi (‘Sau Tarah K’ – Dishoom), Benny Dayal (‘Badtameez Dil’ – Ye Jawani Hai Deewani), Javed Ali (‘Kun Faya Kun’ – Rockstar), Haricharan and a few more upcoming talents.
The show was hosted by Anushka Arora, and opened with a show reel showcasing all the highlights of Ar Rahman’s career so far, including his most recent performance with Chris Martin (Coldplay). He then arrived on stage,...

Ok Jaanu
Starring Aditya Roy Kapoor, Shradha Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Leela Samson
Directed by Shaad Ali
Welcome back, Shaad Ali. It was a Mani Ratnam remake that gave us Shaad, one of the sharpest smartest directors in Saathiya. It is another Mani Ratnam remake that brings Shaad back in form after a string of duds.
Ok Jaanu (ignore the yucky title) is smart, slick heartwarming and utter endearing as Shaad, from material moulded in Mani’s imagination , forges out an urban love story set in the city that gives love a shove for more practical considerations, like making a living and realizing your ambitions.
Meet Adi and Tara, a couple so believable in their exuberant ambitions and the determination to lock their mutual adoration in a chastity belt, that you can’t help feeling exasperated at their blindness to see the obvious.

A breezy offering of new age Indian cinema welcomes in the New Year as romantic drama, Ok Jaanu, releases in cinemas on 13th January 2017, presented by Dharma Productions and Madras Talkies, distributed by Fox Star Studios.

On August 15th, Mr. A.R. Rahman along with a host of special musical guests and singers returned to The O2 in London after five years in a very special show to perform his greatest hits. Check out our special report.
The Warm Up
A. R. Rahman. Live in concert. To say my expectations were high before the show would be a little bit of an understatement. I had heard rumours that hearing Rahman live should be on every music lovers bucket list, and it had been on mine for a while.
Having missed his performance at various arenas and having this opportunity land was a dream come true. A one night only concert and I wasn’t about to give it up….
I packed myself off to enjoy my first night out in 8 months, and what better way to spent it than in the company of a music maestro. Mr.

2014 gave many gems to adore like Queen, Finding Fanny and Haider, but for every good film there’s a Humshakals, It’s Entertainment and Action Jackson. With every editorial on the new changes in Bollywood, there’s the inexplicable popularity of duds that have Ajay Devgn loudly zipping up his trousers or Saif running around London like a dog. It’s baffling that films like Bang Bang or Kick work, but the modest failure of Humshakals had us filled with glee, maybe next year the audiences will finally give up on Sajid Khan. This year’s Razzies features some repeat offenders (looking at you Jackky!) and some newbies who should know better.

It is well-known in the corridors of Yash Raj that Parineeti Chopra is Rani Mukerji's favourite and that Rani sees a resemblance of her own spunky spirit in Parineeti. So it comes as no surprise to know that like Rani after Saathiya, Parineeti is taking a break for a while after Kill Dil. By a strange coincidence both Saathiya and Kill Dil were directed by Shaad Ali. Just before the release of Saathiya, Rani Mukerji had confessed to me that she wanted to take a break from all her further assignments until she saw audiences' reaction to Shaad's film." Parineeti Chopra sounds exactly like Rani did just before the release of Saathiya, when she says, "After Kill Dil releases, I will take a break. I won't be seen on screen for maybe the next 9-10 months." Parineeti Chopra admits she's reading a lot of scripts. "I may sign something soon.

Some people talk the talk and others walk the walk. Vivek Oberoi, described as a Bollywood actor, social worker, adventure sports enthusiast, poet, pilot and dreamer, inspired over 120 guests to walk the walk as he does so gallantly at the Women Empowered event in support of Sewa Day on Tuesday July 1st.
The event, all organized in just 10 days, and sponsored by Sun Mark Ltd in association with Sterling Media, was sold out and those present were almost transfixed by the depth of Vivek’s thoughts and left wanting to hear more. The event was to raise awareness for Sewa Day, an initiative to remind us that charitable giving is not always about donating money, it was, many a times about donating time – the concept of selfless service that generations of Indians (and many others under a variety of names) have known as ‘sewa’ was being revived to a mass audience.

Queen of Bollywood, Queen of Hearts, Dil Ki Rani are just some of the words synonymous with Rani Mukerji. She debuted back in 1996 with the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat, which tanked at the box office. People started writing her off even before she emerged. But then came the turning points of her career, in the form of Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, and she proved that she’s here to stay. While Ghulam gave her the title of ‘Khandala Girl’, while Kuch Kuch Hota Hai made people take notice of this amazing actor who had the ability and talent to stand her own ground in front of superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. She went onto win lots of accolades for both her films and there was no turning back. With her impeccable talent and infectious spontaneity, she ruled the industry and people’s hearts for several years.

New Delhi, July 1: Like any other new filmmaker, she struggled to direct a film. Kiran Rao says her experience has taught her that filmmakers, who are swimming against the tide, should stay true to themselves to get recognition.
The 39-year-old started her work as an assistant director in Oscar nominated 2001 movie "Lagaan" and continued the learning process in films like "Monsoon Wedding", "Saathiya" and "Swades", before directing her first film "Dhobi Ghat" in 2010.
"The struggle is the same for any new filmmaker in the world and I don't think India is any different. All first-time filmmakers who are doing something different and against the tide are going to struggle. There is no one way to fix that struggle. The best.
