Thanks to reader Melissa, I now have to start watching this Hgtv show called All American Handyman. Lesbian contestant Sonne Shields is in the running on Season 3, which airs Sunday nights.
Anton Goss, is a set designer for talk show hosts and he talked with The New York Times about creating a set for The Ellen Show:
Because the talk show is such a strange beast, I tend to find that the hosts say, “Here’s what I’m about, here’s my house, now take that and show me something.” With Ellen, her personal passion was having amazing plants on the set: desert succulents and sculptural pieces. She’s got amazing taste. It’s like Spanish style, and then you took a modern twist.

Los Angeles' gay and lesbian film festival Outfest has announced the lineup for the July 8-19 event with Angela Robinson's D.E.B.S. from Screen Gems kicking off the fest and Michael Mayer's A Home at the End of the World from Warner Independent Pictures closing the festivities. Opening night, to be held downtown at the Orpheum Theatre, also will include a tribute to Todd Haynes who will receive the fest's highest honor, the eighth annual Outfest Achievement Award. Haynes, whose films have had a profound impact on modern lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgendered cinema, according to the fest, directed Far From Heaven, Velvet Goldmine and Safe.
Screen Gems' D.E.B.S. will open the sixth CineVegas Film Festival, with New Line Cinema's The Notebook serving as the closing-night film. A total of 36 features/docus, including seven world premieres, and 19 shorts will be unspooled during the fest, which is set to run June 11-19 in Las Vegas. Films making their world premiere at the festival include Chris Fisher's Hillside Strangler, Mitchell Altieri's Lurking in Suburbia, Kim Dempster's Marmalade, John Harkrider's Mitchellville, Michael Gibson's Numb, Andrew Wagner's The Talent Given Us and Until the Night from Gregory Hatanaka.

Fresh from the Sundance Film Festival premiere of D.E.B.S., her feature directorial debut for Screen Gems, helmer Angela Robinson has signed to direct the remake of Herbie the Love Bug for the Walt Disney Co. and the Robert Simonds Co. With Robinson now on board, the project is gearing up for a mid-June start. Disney has been shepherding a remake of Herbie for years, most recently hiring writing duo Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to do a page-one rewrite on their previous version.
