Frankly i expected more from a movie with the title "Butchered".....
face_of_terror26 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Two girls are about to enter some kind of sorority organization (which includes two other girls and their bfs.). First they undergo a little spanking , then they do some push-ups with a cream all over their bras. After 15 mins or so of that i started thinking that the title "Butchered" doesn't really fit in here. After fast-forwarding those scenes, the movie changes its direction a little bit. The third and the last test the girls have to do ,to join the club is to spend the night in an abandoned house. They didn't expect that the club members prepared another surprise for them. And the club members didn't expect a house' owner - a deformed maniac with a butcher's knife to prepare a big and bloody surprise for them all...

For its budget, "Butchered" has good special effects (director Joe Castro is a make-up artist) , and some decent gore. Though its not as realistic as for example Olaf Ittenbach's gore in "Premutos" and "Burning Moon" , but pretty solid. The directing is not very good , and is shot with a home camera. The movie is also very dark - bad lights i guess. I don't have to talk about the acting...there is none.

Our maniac is a female by the way ! That was sort of a fresh idea. She is deformed, has big ugly teeth and wears white mask. Oh yeah , i almost forgot about the butcher's knife. She turns out to be nearly twice stronger than those two guys from the club. Music is boring , and starts to annoy after 15-20 minutes.

Verdict : Boring gore fest. Annoying Music , stupid acting. Even first 15 mins of the movie don't save it. Once again , they've had a good idea , and totally spoiled it.

Crap

The best sequence in "Butchered" occurs early on, when two girls are spanked with paddles by two other girls and then are forced to do "squishy" push-ups (you'll see what that means), as part of a sorority initiation. I must admit I found all of this quite a turn-on. But when the action moves on to the "haunted" house, the film offers nothing but derivative plotting, overacting, screaming, wandering around, watery blood and fake/exaggerated gore. I will give it * out of 4 for the effort; it's obvious that the people who made it do love horror flicks (they even included a double homage to "Halloween" and "Psycho" at the start). That doesn't mean they had enough talent to make one though!

Follows a well known plot.

Thank you! t.v. cable cheap channels that have the courage to air this direct to video horror cheese flicks! When there's nothing to do at midnight on the week, these flicks air and believe me it's a pleasure for me to watch as I'm a lover of the low budget.

"Butchered" follows the same plot as in "HellNight", "The Initiation", and many more slasher flicks from the early 80's. The problem is that this flick from the year 2003 doesn't offers anything you haven't seen.

The "killer" kind of reminds me of the Garth Manion monsters from "HellNight" but not as near as scary. Ugh. This is a flick to booth from the trash can!.

The flick has cheap gore effects, scares, and a dull direction even for a direct to video mess! Watch it if you're like me, a hardcore fan of low budget horror flicks.

Going for the Easy Kill
BaronBl00d10 March 2005
Well, the story is nothing new here: two girls wish to join a sorority and are asked as their final pledge initiation test to stay in a house known to be haunted(after licking sandals with chocolate sauce and being spanked with a big paddle labeled Daddy). The girls who are testing them and their boyfriends go to the house later that evening to scare them. Trouble of course comes to all when a girl, with an inhuman build and deformed body, starts terrorizing all of them(plus the obligatory pizza guy and a homeless man). Butchered is a bad picture all the way: with actors with virtually no range, hokey special effects, crude plot devices shown on film such as vomiting, a grade z budget, and a story that has been done in some form or fashion many, many times. But the makers of this film weren't trying to do anything else but show a lot of bloodletting, smashed heads and faces, eye gouging, knife cuts and slashes, and the typical devices used in a film of this ilk. We also get a "ghost" with braces. I'm not a gore-hound by any means, but if seeing plastic heads repeatedly slashed at is your thing, then you will be in for a treat. None of the characters are compelling, the plot is threadbare, and there is virtually no humour. Usually a film like this makes fun of itself in some way. What does it have going for it? All of the female cast, except Rebecca and the redheaded ghost with the braces, are very easy on the eyes. Susan Smythe in particular is an eyeful. Only one of the female thespians disrobes so don't expect too much in that area either. The other big plus is that the film lasts only 76 minutes. And as a final plus, I can say that for a bad film, Butchered is at the very least watchable. I didn't have to fast-forward, but rest assured I will not invest another 76 minutes to ever see it again.

Starts Dodgy...Gets Better
mauchline200828 August 2004
Now firstly I have to say that bad acting and dodgy plots have never really bothered me but I do get very bored with films that have nudity in them just for the sake of a little T&A now I know there are a lot of guys out there who like that and thats OK its just not my thing. When I first started to watch this I thought that is what this was gonna be about as the first 30 or so mins concentrate mainly on the two girls going through a Hazing for a local Sorority House and breasts are beared and the girls undergo a little light spanking but when it came to the cream in the bra's I thought forget this its gonna be a T&A show. Luckily I did stick with it and boy does it get quite good once all the characters get to the haunted house and begin to get picked off one by one I was surprised also that you could not really pick out which characters were gonna survive as the girl I though was gonna be the final one was killed first. The gore content is very high and if like me you like that then you will be happy. All in all a good rental and if like me you like taking chances and buying films go for it I think you might like it.

Changed name 3 times, should have changed their mind about producing it.

Warning: Spoilers
For a low budget movie I guess you can say that it...no, can't even say anything good about this film. Sorry, I tried. From the start to the finish this film had no signs of a script, direction, talent,...the works. If you like cheesy horror films that follow the same mass produced guideline over and over again, then this is your flick. But if you're looking for some entertainment value...something that will peak your interest for at least 2 minutes, then you definitely need to stay away from this one.

Not only are the dialogue and direction horrible, but the actors...if they possess any talent...aren't allowed to show it due to a lack of any kind of organization. The story seems to go everywhere, but take us nowhere. Certain scenes drag on for what seems like hours at a time. And the movie finale leaves you with more of sense of "Thank God it's over", then "Wow, I can't believe she made it." For the most part, the producers should have reinvested their money into another project in stead of giving us this one. It's 76 minutes that you'll never get back. (30 if you fast forward like I did).

hilariously awful
prankster400020 February 2008
The acting in this debauched piece consists of the most wooden, uncharismatic performances of several of the most talentless actors one will ever have the misfortune to witness. The special effects are neither special nor effective. The plot is lazy, simplistic, predictable and riddled with more holes than many of the characters' bodies by the end of the film. Any of these things in a vacuum would usually warrant a one star rating, however this perfect blend of utter ridiculousness, which takes itself seriously enough to be amusing since it exceeds any parody one could attempt to make, is a delight from start to finish. The lacklustre futility of many of the characters' attempts at escape, the stilted dialogue and the over the top sets makes for a chucklesome pastiche of a 'horror' film. Here director (and special effects artist!-you can see where the focus lies) Joe Castro rivals the worst films of Ed Wood in the hall of shame and as such this film should be treasured. It is even good enough that I can safely say it is superior to the higher budget film Jumper, which you should avoid at all costs.

Susan Smythe and GREAT FX? Count me in!
dtmangler25 September 2019
Susan Smythe is wonderful to watch. Incredibly talented and charismatic as hell! Joe Castro and his special effects made me cheer loudly...probably scaring the neighbors. Pretty incredible FX for a low budget film.

Although not an Oscar winner, it's definitely a movie that would have made Herschell Gordon Lewis smile!

Sorority Party Massacre.
m_deathbringer6 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, my summary says it all, this kind of movie has been done many, many, many times before (usually by Troma), i got this in a horror pack called "The Bloodletting Collection", but i saved it to be one of the last movies i watched, simply because the whole US Sorority/Frat culture is lost on me, it seems utterly, utterly stupid that what is basically a bunch of friends partying has to be 'Legitimised', by using idiotic pseudo-scientific/ancient Greek names and you have to 'rush' the frat to see if they want you etc etc..like i said, totally stupid and pointless!. Anyway, the film, it starts out being very stupid, a bunch of girls with highly annoying accents put two more nerdy (apparently, they all look 'preppy' to me, Er, whatever that means) girls through some spanking and making them do press-ups with cream in their bras, then their final challenge is to stay the night in a 'haunted house', which used to be a theme park attraction, but is now abandoned and 'in the middle of nowhere' (though it is obviously in a suburb). Once they get inside the real fun starts!, the girls and their boyfriends want to scare the nerds using horror masks and taped screams (both of which come from the movie 'Maniacal', along with most of the actors and locations, also one of the nerds is watching Maniacal near the start..heh), little do they all know, a deformed psycho roams the house, murdering all who enter, with some fairly decent gore (though she always uses a knife, why not hammers and axes?). Also a freaky looking ghost repeatedly warns them to leave the house, although the first time one of the nerds see's the ghost she assumes its "Just part of their pranks", which seemed a bit weird. In the end the Pizza boy who delivers pizzas to the (by now killed) owner/night watchman of the house arrives and helps the survivors escape, and kill the psycho in a surprisingly tense ending. Overall its a not a bad film if you can put up with the first half hour or so RATINGS: Sex: 4/10, Drugs: 0/10, Rock 'n Roll: 1/10, Classic Cars: 2/10 (theres a 70's hearse in the background at one point), Zombies: 0/10, Splatter: 7/10
