- A behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Grand Prix (1966) and race day in Monaco. Included are shots of director John Frankenheimer and actors James Garner, Yves Montand, Brian Bedford, and Eva Marie Saint. The closeups of the actors driving were taken just prior to the race itself, which was also filmed. At race's end, Frankenheimer staged his own victory celebrations for the film, while Jackie Stewart collected the real trophy nearby.—garykmcd
- Excitement is building in the Principality of Monaco, not only for the imminent running of the Grand Prix de Monaco, but because a plethora of international movie stars has descended onto the race site to film Grand Prix (1966). Director John Frankenheimer, at the helm, is taking advantage of the real race to film racing scenes for the movie as well as shoot real life crowd scenes. Beyond the male stars of the film, some real life car racers act as crew. Despite the built-in infrastructure of the race course, Frankenheimer has a monumental task in the difficulties of filming dangerous racing scenes with the real actors behind the wheel in most cases. While not at the track, the female stars of the movie are also introduced. After these racing and post-racing scenes are filmed, there is a real race to take place, only one of several on the European Grand Prix circuit.—Huggo
- This is a promotional short for Grand Prix (1966). It focuses on the Grand Prix race in Monaco and the difficulties the director and crew overcame to film the race. Eighteen cameras, several of them mounted on racecars, were used to capture the event. A staged race was filmed one hour before the start of the actual race, with the film's stars driving racecars in excess of 100 mph. Following the real race, a staged winner's celebration was also filmed.—David Glagovsky <dglagovsky@prodigy.net>
