What can YOU do in an elevator?
tributarystu2 June 2005
Phew, this is some damned funny stuff! Wouldn't have thought so by the title, but it turned out to be as cool and smart as they get.

A young boy calls an erotic hot-line and hangs up immediately, too ashamed to continue once he hears the soft and longing voice of a woman. Then he sees the "to drool for" hot girl from next door as she "travels" by lift with him. It seems to be the typical, smart ass, know it all and "I'm better than you" girl. Then you've got a mother, recently employed as a...secretary, as well as a seemingly dead-bored father. To top it all, you've got the neighborhood - an amusing insightful look depicting it terribly well, in its chaotic existence.

Although the story may not be extremely plausible, its outcome is so stupendously funny that you can't but go along with it. Moreover, you've got some situations which were put together brilliantly, so amusing and charming that you'll be caught in the film's web quicker than you'd have imagined possible. On the other hand, though, the acting is partly pathetic...but, hmm, maybe its for the best that way. I mean, a line like "Excuse me, could you please tell me what I could do with a girl in an elevator?" is simply mind blowing in its innocent nature.

Try to lay your eyes on this, it's a great "natural high" inducing kind of movie!

Lovely, really lovely

I have got to admit. I am not a really big fan of short movies but this movie really.. made my day :) A very interesting story which shows that although we are in the age of technology people don't communicate so much face to face. It also shows what the first-love-feelings are .. not being sure of what to do in front of her, the girl of your dreams is shown up really , really well ! This short movie made me think more about this kind of movies and I think I will watch some more. The director did a very good job and although I don't know how old is he and stuff I believe he is on the right track. Overall 9/10. Absolutely L O V E L Y !

A lovely piece of film-making from Romania!

I saw this film at the NYU International Film Festival in New York and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! The story focuses on the lack of communication between a working-class family that live on C block and combines gritty drama with terrific unclichéd comedy. The story is so clever and entertaining and by the end it resolves itself with such charm. It is full of subtle messages about life, family, communication and relationships. Great acting from the three main actors and a wonderful sense of pacing from the director. This really is a lovely piece of film-making from Romania and well deserving of it's award at the festival.

Late Christian Nemescu portrays a poignant East European feel in his film.
FilmCriticLalitRao25 August 2009
This unique Romanian short film has an inherent East European feel to it which can be felt and seen in the early works of many great filmmakers of the region such as Krzysztof Kieslowski. It is remarkable to note how buildings have been portrayed and shot by Christian Nemescu. They give us an idea of what must be going on inside them especially at a time when people come out in open to have a different life.Although "Poveste La Scara 'C'" is set in Romania,it remains a film with universal appeal as its central theme related to an ordinary middle class family can take place any where in the world. The highlight of this film is its depiction of things which can keep a family united.Romanian director Christian Nemescu has also done a good job with his preference for feelings of young people. This will surely be noticed by youngsters wherever this film is going to be screened. "Poveste La Scara 'C'" is quite an important film for film critic Lalit Rao as he is fortunate to be counted as one of the few people in this world who own a DVD of this film sent by none other than this film's director Christian Nemescu some months prior to his untimely demise in a car accident. This sad event took place before the official release of his first feature film "California Dreaming".

What could have been?

Warning: Spoilers
"Poveste la scara 'C'" or "'C' Block Story" is a Romanian 14-minute short film written and directed by Cristian Nemescu. He was only in his early 20s when he made this one and even if it's not a perfect film by any means, the talent is still visible and not many filmmakers that age have come up with something as good as this one here. The acting is pretty good too from everybody involved. It was Nemescu's last short film work before he went on to making full feature films that won awards as well just like this one here. It is a tale of love, communication and phone sex in the most aesthetic way you could imagine. I had a good time watching it and it may be an even greater watch if you are horny while checking this one out. Sad to see a car crash was the reason we lost Nemescu so early. It looks like he may have been at the beginning of a truly magnificent career. but still, we can appreciate what we have, such as this film here. i recommend checking it out, even if I did not like it as much as the first time I saw it.
