Spotlight Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to the full-length live-action Vr feature Dream Channel.
A 35-minute version of the 90-minute film will screen at the Cannes Next Vr Theatre.
The project has been profiled in Cross Video Days, a Cannes forum where investors in the Vr space are brought together with experimental filmmakers.
The film is a narrative-driven “choose your own adventure” about gangsters who buy and sell dreams on the black market. Venturing into the world, audiences discover that they are the protagonist of the story and their dreams have been stolen too.
Viewers can experience Dream Channel on both mobile, via Samsung Gear Vr, and on Htc Vive as a fully immersive world where they navigate their way around an augmented Amsterdam from scene to scene choosing their own adventure.

As DVD and Blu-ray sales fall, it's no longer certain that films will get a disc release. So what's happening?
Let’s start with a statistic.
In 2013, Hotel Transylvania shifted 1,029,614 copies on Blu-ray disc in the Us alone. A hefty number, yet the animated hit – which has thus far spawned one sequel, with another on the way – was only the 23rd best-selling Blu-ray release of the year in America that year, just trailing titles such as Turbo, Rise Of The Guardians, Django Unchained and Life Of Pi.

Animation is inspired by hit French comic series of the same name.
Paris-based digital production house Ankama has completed the first phase of animation on its upcoming feature film inspired by hit French comic series Mutafukaz, revolving around the fantasy world of Dark Meat City.
The French transmedia giant is best known internationally for its cult fantasy online game world Dofus, which it is also currently adapting to the big screen.
“Mutafukaz will be our second film. It will be ready in 2017,” said Ankama audiovisual director Frédéric Puech.
It is a joint production between Ankama and Japanese Studio 4°C.
“We’ve just finished the first phase of animation and we’re currently editing and doing post-production,” he said.

For the second time, the Marché du Film is bringing back Next, a pavilion dedicated to the future of cinema. The Next Pavilion will host 22 heavyweight companies from all around the world. Every morning in Palais K, Next will offer a series of round-tables that aim to give an overview of today’s challenging landscape in film.

The fifth edition of the Paris-based transmedia event Cross Video Days unfolded in a refurbished warehouse on the edge of the French capital last week (June 19-20).
Founded in 2010, the same year as Apple launched the first iPad, the event has grown in sync with the transmedia scene as the film, television, press and advertising worlds increasingly embrace a cross-media approach.
Some 1,000 people from 29 countries attended its cross-media content market and conference programme this year, including 60 commissioners and decision-makers.
“Nobody in the audio-visual world can ignore the digital question anymore – whether they’re working in documentary, fiction, cinema or education – a crossmedia approach is increasingly relevant,” said the event’s founder Bruno Smadja.

Behind-the-scenes e-sports cross-media project follows pro-games stars such as sOs, Li “Sky” Xiofeng and Sophistie.
Beijing-based Oriental Companion Media has boarded French director Hervé Martin Delpierre’s feature documentary and web series, Game Fever,about the world of professional video gaming, otherwise known as e-sports.
It is among the first projects being put together by respected documentary producer Christine Le Goff following her recent arrival at Paris-based non-fiction specialist Zed Productions.
The €1.4m ($1.9m) project goes behind scenes of the burgeoning global e-sports scene in which professional video game players, or pro-gamers, compete for big cash prizes in online and venue-based tournaments.
It follows on from Delpierre’s 2013 Arte-produced Game Over about the evolution of the videogame scene.
“Thousands of spectators attend the live events and millions of people watch these competitions online,” said Le Goff. More than 1 billion people play the games worldwide.

It follows on from Delpierre’s 2013 Arte-produced Game Over about the evolution of the videogame scene.

Actress, writer and producer Emily Corcoran [pictured] and director Annette K Olesen’s will be among the film professionals crossing over to the web to present transmedia projects at the upcoming edition of Cross Video Days (Cvd) in Paris later this month.
The cross-media market and conference event, unfolding June 19-20 in a former warehouse on the outskirts of Paris, marks its fifth edition this year.
Founder Bruno Smajda is expecting it to be the biggest edition to date.
“It’s taken off in terms of the quality of the projects and the attendance of commissioners, one feeds into another,” he says.
“Today producers and broadcasters have to conceive projects in a transmedia way, taking into account convergence and what’s happening digitally — not least due to the realities of the market and the way in which people consume content,” says Smadja.

Curzon World CEO Philip Knatchbull and Magnolia Pictures president Eamonn Bowles will be among the speakers kicking off the Marché’s new Next programme, dedicated to new ways of storytelling as well as producing, financing and distributing film.
“We think it’s essential to take this opportunity to explore the realities facing the cinematographic industry in this digital demand-driven world we are now living in,” said Marché executive director Jerôme Paillard [pictured] of the Next initiative, which will be housed in a new pavilion in International Village.
Both the UK’s Curzon World, the parent company of exhibitor Curzon Cinemas and distributor Artificial Eye, and American Magnolia are “day and date” pioneers and run successful VOD platforms allowing customers to watch some films at home at the same time as they are released in the cinemas.
