In the thick of awards season, “The Big Sick” star Zoe Kazan maintained the kind of multi-tasking she’s known for. In this case, that meant stumping for the Michael Showalter comedy, while also preparing for the New York city premiere of her latest play, “After the Blast.” Kazan is no stranger to juggling projects, but the timing of these two very different obligations was still ambitious, considering that both projects resulted from years of work and personal investment.
A veteran of the film industry at just 34 – her film debut was the 2003 feature “Swordswallowers and Thin Men,” which she starred in two years before graduating Yale with a degree in theatre, and that’s to say nothing of her familial pedigree, which includes a pair of directors: mother Robin Swicord and grandfather Elia Kazan – Kazan is usually looking for something new. Her current slate speaks to that variety: she’s...

As Godzilla prepares to stomp back into cinemas next year with Monsters man Gareth Edwards overseeing the mayhem, a few issues have cropped up, notably another writer switch as Legendary Pictures brings in Frank Darabont to take a script pass and a producer ditch after Dan Lin and Roy Lee left.Though the film has already gone through a fair number of writers –including Batman veteran David Goyer, Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce, The Expendables' David Callaham and Swordswallowers And Thin Men’s Max Borenstein – that’s hardly unusual for a big project such as this and Darabont’s experience with genre films makes us think he could make some great additions, particularly if Edwards is looking to maintain the film’s moody, modern day take on the massive beast.More worrying is the behind-the-scenes tension with the producers, which could turn acrimonious over money. Still, we’re...

In case you haven't been paying attention, John Carter has officially underperformed at the domestic box office. While Disney was hoping that the Andrew Stanton-directed adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' first Barsoom novel would be a smash, it ended up pulling in only $30 million in the Us, which wasn't what the studio was hoping for for the $250 million project. Still, while the movie may not have lived up to expectations, that's not stopping Disney from continuing to play the sci-fi game. According to THR, Disney has hired Max Borenstein to script an epic space adventure called Paladin. While Borenstein is fairly new to the game, having only a 2003 film called Swordswallowers and Thin Men attached to his name, he did write the script for the upcoming adaptation of Joseph Delaney's The Spook's Apprentice, The Seventh Son (which is set to star Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes,...

The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which originally saw life as a TV show in the mid-'60s, has long been in the Hollywood remake pile. Back in 2004 or 2005 Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn was set to direct, but dropped out to make another film that eventually didn't happen. (He made Stardust instead.) But the film keeps on going. Now there's a new writer on board, and a new director attached: David Dobkin, who directed Wedding Crashers and was once set to make The Flash for Warner Bros. THR has the info, but because things are still in early stages there's not much to go on. Max Borenstein is writing this new draft. (I have no idea how many drafts of the film have been bought up until now.) Borenstein wrote Jimi, a biopic about Jimi Hendrix, and wrote and directed a feature called Swordswallowers and Thin Men. So, are we looking at...
