A video letter to a big sister
Havan_IronOak7 April 2004
In this interesting short Robert Kennedy creates a video letter to his big sister using a well thought out voice-over and a series of family snapshots that he places on the table in front of himself with the camera playing the part of his eyes.

In this very simple style he tells us a LOT about what it was like to grow up in that family and have Nicky as a big sister. The fact that both are gay just makes it that much more interesting to me but I can honestly say that the brotherly/sisterly love that is evoked by the voice-over would make this film interesting even if both were straight.

I think that this is a great example of what can be done in film making on an almost non-existent budget and other film makers would be wise to take note.

The interesting thing to me is that it reminded me of a saying that an actor friend once told me about dialogue. He said that dialogue is really effective when it starts a movie in your mind. When the content of the words paint a picture in the audience's mind that is more vivid than what the audience is seeing in font of them.

On that level as well, this film succeeds.
