Quotes

  • Matthew Kragen : Where are you going?

Ms. Burns : Well, first I'm going to go find Georgia, and then I'm gonna go back to school and I'm gonna get my business degree. And then one day, when your wife finally decides to divorce you and takes half of everything you have, I'll only be too happy to help her figure out exactly how much that should be.

  • Anton : Ms. Byrd something terrible is happening.

Ms. Burns : [deadpanned]  Matthew Kragen jumped out a window?

Anton : Not yet, he's still on the windowsill

  • Ms. Burns : Is it that obvious I'm sleeping with him?

  • Ms. Burns : Who was it who said 'Adversity is the stone on which I sharpen my blade?'

  • [while relaxing in the spa, Georgia overhears Mrs. Burns speak rudely to the masseuse Brigitta and goes up to confront her]

Georgia Byrd : [to Ms. Burns]  Hey. Hey! I don't like the way you're talking to that woman.

Ms. Burns : I'm sorry if I disturbed you, Ms. Bird. She was hurting me, though...

Georgia Byrd : I don't care. You don't talk to working people that way. Now, it's plain to see what the problem is here. You've got tension in your neck 'cuz you keep going down on Mr. Kragen, and he's a married man. At least that poor lady is trying to work it out of you. So, don't take it out on Brigitta.

    Brigitta : [grateful]  Thank you.

[Georgia winks at Brigitta; the other massueses start giggling, having overheard the exchange]

Georgia Byrd : Anyway, enjoy your massage.

Brigitta : [smiling]  Thank you very much.

    Ms. Burns : [stunned]  Bye.

[Georgia leaves. Brigitta happily continues to massage Ms. Burns, who looks extremely embarrassed]

  • [Georgia is relaxing with cucumbers on her eyes. An embarressed and shame-faced Ms. Burns slumps into a next next to Georgia's. This is after Georgia called Ms. Burns out for speaking disrespectfully to a masseuse and pointed out the younger woman's tension over her extramarital affair with the already married Matthew Kragen]

Ms. Burns : Is it that obvious that I'm sleeping with him?

[Georgia pulls back one of the cucumbers and gives her a knowing look]

Ms. Burns : [Despairingly]  I knew it... None of the other women at the company will even talk to me. I'm marked by this. And there's no one in my life who I can talk to about it.

Georgia Byrd : [removing her cucumber slices so she can look at her]  Well, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over what other people think. Now, come on, girl. We're supposed to be meditating.

[Georgia bites half of the cucumber slices and tries to relax. Ms. Burns continues to pour her guts out]

Ms. Burns : I've been working at the company for six years. I've worked really hard you know?

    [Georgia give her a look]

Ms. Burns : Oh, you don't understand. I hate the retail business.

Georgia Byrd : Oh, believe me baby, I understand. I worked in the retail business for ten years myself.

    [Beat]

Georgia Byrd : Look, I know this whole story. My sister was seeing another man.

Ms. Burns : Matthew's gonna leave his wife. It's a bad time for her right now, but he's gonna leave his wife.

Georgia Byrd : [shaking her head, sagely]  Baby, come on now. I know you're holdin' out to hope, but come on... They're not bad people, They're just greedy people. They want a lil' bit of this, a lil' bit of that, a lil' bit of that - They ain't gonna leave their wives! Yeah, you just need to leave him.

Ms. Burns : It's not that easy. If I leave him, I'll have to quit my job. What am I going to do? I didn't finish school.

Georgia Byrd : [while eating her cucumber slices]  Well, then You... Go Back to School. There now, we solved it! Let's tackle something heavy, like World Hunger!

    [Ms. Burns and Georgia laugh]

  • Ms. Burns : [a depressed and humiliated Matthew Kragen is sitting on the ledge, contemplating suicide]  Matthew! Get off of there! You wouldn't jump off of here, you couldn't even base jump from the dam.

Matthew Kragen : [flatly]  Equipment failure.
