Has dated quite badly

Originally a hit when released in the arcades in the 80's Spy vs Spy also enjoyed success on just about every home console. I myself had it on the Commodore 64 along with the sequel 'Island Adventure' and the third one called 'Arctic Antics', which were better.

The trouble with the original Spy vs Spy is that the gameplay, while briefly fun, was too limited and the rooms of the big building you ran about in looked the same. It was easy to get lost and there was nothing particularly visually interesting about the game.

But for Spy vs Spy or MAD Magazine completest this game is a must. I've yet to play the new Spy vs Spy game (it only came out on PS2 and XBOX-I have a Gamecube) but it will probably be better than this. If you have a vintage console at home then get Spy vs Spy II or III.

An Honest Review

Yeah, I never beat it.

I'm not even sure I finished the first level. I know my father did once, and we were both appropriately shocked by it.

It was a game my dad and I loved to play together and, long before N64 and Goldeneye, long before Halo, long before modern warfare, Spy vs. Spy was the two player game where you could run around, set booby traps, and kill your friends...

... in this case my father.

There were missions, there were goals, none of that mattered because it was all about son killing father, father killing son, or, occasionally, one of us killing a guest. The point of the game, the mission really didn't matter, that wasn't where the fun was.

Spy vs. Spy is one of the one of the coolest action video games! The characters, the action, and the sure thrill of adventure makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Commodore 64. The backgrounds are really beautiful!

Difficulty: The game is easy but as it goes on you find out that it will become more difficult!

Music: The music is great! Just fantastic catchy tunes through out the game! In My opinion its some of the best music ever in a video game!

Sound: The sound is great. Nuff said!

Overall: I have always loved Spy vs. Spy! If you like excellent adventure games, and more then I strongly recommend you play this game!

It's the 25th anniversary of Spy vs Spy!

This game was brilliantly programmed by Mike Reidel, who also did the artwork.

The original music was by Nick Scarim.

Over the past 25 years, there have been hundreds of remixes of the original theme music (do a search on Google) in every conceivable genre - from trance to orchestral to hard rock. Contemporary bands mixing techno with hard rock - like Ghostland Observatory, for example - find themselves referenced by comparisons to the 1984 SID-chip soundtrack to Spy vs Spy! Apparently there are plenty of music reviewers who grew up playing this particular computer game.

The composer Nick Scarim lives in New York City and frequently plays downtown clubs with the rock band Vintage6.
