Wife Swap was a reality show that first appeared on ABC in 2004. The show’s premise involved two women from different backgrounds moving into each other’s homes and living with their new families for two weeks.
Cameras followed each family as the “new wife” tried to make changes in the new home and sometimes changed herself. In the end, the wives moved back with their families, who often learned from their new experiences.
Was ‘Wife Swap’ fake?
Many reality shows are said to be at least partially fake, and Wife Swap may be no different.

Exclusive: ABC is getting into the unscripted true-crime space.
The Disney-owned network has ordered Who Do You Believe? From All3Media-owned producer Lime Pictures.
The series uses simultaneous storytelling to take viewers through compelling true crime cases from dual perspectives. In each episode, the audience steps into the shoes of two contrasting narratives to hear the recounts directly from the victims and criminals with never-before-revealed details. Then the viewer plays armchair detective to deduce and piece together different versions of the truth. There are two sides to every story – and there’s no telling how far one would go for their marriage, child, or way of life.
Within this new storytelling format, the adjudicated cases culminate with a surprise reveal: “Who Do You Believe?”
Alex Weresow, who exec produced Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath and also worked on series including Undercover Boss and Wife Swap, serves as showrunner.

Paramount Network will remain Paramount Network — at least for now — as the cabler nixes plans to rebrand as the Paramount Movie Network.
According to insiders, the rebrand plans have been put on ice partly due to Covid-19, which has had an immense impact on production, as well as the success of “Yellowstone,” which has grown into a tremendous hit for Paramount Network and is now the No. 1 entertainment program on cable.
The initial plan, first announced in September 2020, was for the ViacomCBS subsidiary to focus on television movies and cancel its unscripted programming. ViacomCBS’ president of entertainment and youth brands Chris McCarthy told Variety that Paramount planned to air 52 original movies per year — or one per week — as well as one quarterly “blockbuster” miniseries or scripted series on the scale of its hit drama “Yellowstone.” The network also hinted at potentially spinning off characters from these projects into their own...

Exclusive: Paramount Network is safe, for now.
ViacomCBS has reversed plans to rebrand the cable network, home to Kevin Costner-fronted hit series Yellowstone, as Paramount Movie Network.
Deadline understands that the company has put the plans, which first emerged in September 2020, on hold, in part due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has had a major impact on production.
The original strategy was to turn Paramount Network into the Paramount Movie Network, which would air 52 original movies a year with one miniseries or scripted series airing per quarter.
Development of these movie projects was originally being overseen by Meghan Hooper White, who joined the company from A+E Networks as EVP and Head of Original Movies and Limited Series in May 2020 but left little over a year later.

NBC’s “Home Sweet Home,” in which families swap houses in order to see how their counterparts live, is pitched to audiences as a social experiment. But it’s one that unscripted TV has conducted before.
Granted, past instances of this particular genre were significantly more geared towards provocation. ABC’s “Wife Swap” and Fox’s “Trading Spouses” both spelled it out in their titles: Each episode of these series placed members of two families in unfamiliar environments whose contrast seemed specially selected to engineer conflict. Indeed, both shows had one of their family members go viral, with “Trading Spouses” personality “God Warrior” ranting about the unholy things to which she had been exposed and “Wife Swap” kiddo “King Curtis” complaining about having his access to bacon restricted by his new substitute mom.
“Home Sweet Home,” created by Ava DuVernay and produced by her Array Filmworks shingle, is unlikely to cultivate similarly massive personalities.

Saddle up, cord-cutters: Peacock has selected Nov. 22 as its Season 3 premiere date for Paramount Network hit “Yellowstone.”

“Yellowstone” stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, who controls the largest, contiguous ranch in the United States. Another ViacomCBS brand is getting a revamp.
Just days after it was announced that CBS All Access was rebranding as Paramount+, it has been announced that Paramount Network is becoming Paramount Movie Network.
Variety first reported the news.
The plan is for the network to ditch long-form scripted series entirely in order to focus on made-for-tv flicks with big stars.
52 original movies per year are expected to air on the network, effectively per week.
Once per quarter, the network is aiming to air a miniseries or scripted series, but where does that leave Yellowstone?
Well, in a good spot, it seems.
The network still intends to air the series, but there is now the potential to spin off characters from those projects into their own films or sequels in the future.

Along with the change in name comes a shift in content: Rather than traditional series, the cable channel will feature made-for-tv movies with major stars in their casts.

The Paramount Network is adding “movie” to its name and shifting its focus away from series television.
The ViacomCBS cable channel, known for dramas like the Kevin Costner-starring “Yellowstone,” will rebrand into the Paramount Movie Network next year, an individual with knowledge of the plans told TheWrap. The network will now focus on airing made-for-tv movies with plans to air about one a week for a total of 52 each year. Once each quarter, the network will air a miniseries or full scripted series with the idea of turning them into future films.
The name change will take effect next year and be global.
“Yellowstone” will stay on the network, as its the channel’s most popular series, but will be treated more as an event series. The network is moving out of unscripted altogether — meaning that “Ink Master, “Wife Swap,” and “Battle of the Fittest Couples” are all canceled.

Paramount Network is shifting strategies — and changing names.
Variety has learned that the ViacomCBS-owned cabler is planning to move out of long form series television and instead focus its efforts on made-for-tv movies featuring big name stars. To that end, the network will be rebranded as the Paramount Movie Network. The rebrand will take place globally within the next year.
The current plan is to program 52 original movies per year on the network, or one movie per week. Each movie will have a budget in the low-to-mid-seven-figure range. Once per quarter, the network expects to program a miniseries or scripted series on the scale of its hit drama “Yellowstone,” potentially spinning off characters from those projects into their own films or sequels in the future.

In June, A&e canceled its flagship series Live Pd in the wake of the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent protests against police brutality.
The cancelation came a month after the network renewed the show for an additional 160 episodes. Live Pd, which aired Friday and Saturday nights from 9 Pm-12 Am, was one of the highest-rated shows on basic cable.
One of the challenges now for A&e and parent company A+E Networks is how to replace a show that aired for so many hours across the schedule.
A+E Networks President of Programming Rob Sharenow lifted the lid on the decision making process in a virtual Edinburgh International TV Festival session moderated by Deadline.

If France’s Banijay Group clinches its proposed purchase of Endemol Shine, which could happen within the next few days, the deal would mark peak M&a in the international indie content world. The Mo of both companies is acquiring and aggregating brands and IP, and their union would be the largest ever of its kind on the international scene.
Banijay is the Paris-based company behind “Versailles,” the Ryan Reynolds-produced gameshow “Don’t,” and “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” Endemol Shine, itself the product of a previous merger, is the well-known purveyor of “Big Brother,” “Masterchef” and “Peaky Blinders.” A combined Banijay-Endemol Shine would take consolidation to another level, creating a super-indie that would boast content businesses throughout Europe and a presence in Asia Pacific, Australasia, and the U.S.

The program migration among Viacom cable networks continues. The revival of spouse-switching reality series Wife Swap, which which had been ordered a year ago by Cmt and was supposed to debut on the network Feb. 28, will instead air on siblings Paramount Network. The 10 one-hour episodes will begin airing April 4.
Paramount Network had been designated as Viacom’s leading scripted programming brand, while Cmt, labeled a reinforcing brand, had retreated from scripted programming after its foray with Nashville and Sun Records, to remain focused on reality fare.
Wife Swap‘s relocation does not signal a change in programming direction for either network. Premium scripted series remains a priority for Paramount Network, with some limited presence of unscripted, sports and doc on the schedule. (One of the first original series that launched the rebranded Paramount Network was the docuseries Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.)

Banijay, the European superindie that owns Keeping Up With The Kardashians producer Bunim/Murray, has found itself in the middle of its own dramatic reality series in recent months after emerging as one of the frontrunners to buy Big Brother and Black Mirror rival Endemol Shine.
Most companies would hide under the covers until a deal is either done or the gossip has subsided. However, Banijay, which has 61 production labels in 16 countries, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month and, as such, CEO Marco Bassetti is doing the rounds to blow out as many candles as possible.

French TV group Banijay is in advanced talks to acquire production and distribution giant Endemol Shine, Variety has confirmed.
The deep-pocketed Banijay Group, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is controlled by Stéphane Courbit’s Lov Group and De Agostini Group’s DEA Communications. French media giant Vivendi also holds a significant stake.
Endemol Shine, the Netherlands-based producer of “Big Brother,” “MasterChef” and “Black Mirror,” is jointly owned by 21st Century Fox and private equity fund Apollo Global Management. It was put on the block earlier this year.
Although a number of companies are believed to have expressed an initial interest in acquiring Endemol, the field has narrowed considerably in recent weeks. On Wednesday, ITV, the U.K.’s biggest commercial broadcaster, ruled out a bid, joining Fremantle in publicly disassociating itself from the Endemol sale. Sony has bowed out, and Endeavor, which took a look at Endemol, is...
