One of my least favorite editions

Warning: Spoilers
The title "Adult Video News Awards 2003" is pretty self-explanatory here because this one tells us that here we have the 2003 edition of the adult film Oscars if you want to call them that. But everybody understands what it means this way. It is moving closer to its 20th anniversary now, so many of the people featured in here have ended their careers, especially the females, but some are also still active. You can check out which applies for each actor featured during this show in their bodies of work as pretty much everybody you see in this program is credited here on imdb. Okay, this show ran for 2 hours and 10 minutes exactly pretty much, which is really long, not necessarily by awards show standards, but certainly by AVN Awards standards. I have seen other editions that only ran for 80 minutes or so I think, but this one is really long, maybe also because it was the 20th anniversary. Of course, not all of these 130 minutes are really stage action. A great deal are scenes that are shown to the audience from the winning movies/performers. One winner said that everybody wants to go home and I am not sure what he was referring to there, maybe that the show really is that long or I don't know whatever else he was unhappy with or thought people wree unhappy with. Not a nice statement though. Nobody forced him to come (no pun intended). What else can I say here. I am far from an expert on the adult film branch, but there are people you will just recognize. Be it Sasha Grey, even if she was not a factor that night, or the likes of Randy Spears (who was at least featured in a little comedy video early on) or Ron Jeremy, who is always there I believe. The rest of the people were not too familiar to me to be honest. This also applies to late director Mark Stone, who really worked on so many of these AVN Awards behind the camera (and many many other projects), that you can perhaps call him a bit of an icon. The host was Doug Stanhope and he had a bit of that annoyed brat thingey going for him. He was alright. Not the first time they picked comedians to host the show and certainly not the last time. The humor is always a bit rougher for these shows. Stanhope kinda fit in nicely there. And Ricky Gervais sure wasn't the first man to bring beer to the stage of an awards show I learnt today. And Gervais only drank it. Stanhope did stuff there you must see yourself to believe it is true, even if it fit the occasion. All while talking about the science of masturbating to porn and what the best and most efficient and most successful approach may be. Of course, his genital is referenced too on one occasion.

As you see from my rating, I did not like the event too much this time. I would say it was certainly too long, but also on other editions I think there were more beautiful people a part of this and featured on stage. I am only talking about the girls this time of course, not the guys, as I am a heterosexual male. Still, maybe 2 of them were still pretty decent and attractive I suppose. When ever the camera moved to the crowd, wwe see people making out with each other (usually two females) or flashing their naked boobs into the camera. The girls on stage who had the task to work as eye candy were also topless, I think not clipless, and their upper body clothes were only painted on them. Crazy Town was around playing their big hit "Butterfly". Also nothing too unusual. The music number or act (no pun intended) is frequently the biggest name this special awards ceremony has to offer. Like every year. This was already 3 years or so after the release of "Butterfly", so I would say they weren't really en vogue anymore, but at least people knew them. I mean people who do not regularly watch porn. Those probably knew many of the honored and nominees here in contrast to myself. One thing I found a biit strange was that on one occasion at least they said something like (some of the nominees are". Did they not announce all nominees? Now that would suck and really be disrespectful, even if there are 9 nominees or even more for some category. At least, the majority of awards (if not all of them) were included that night. One man who had a great night was Rocco Siffredi and he was on stage several times, always easy to identify with his Italian accent. Now if the Oscars show love for Parasite, then the AVN Awards showed love to Italy that year. He is one of those still working today despite being in his mid-50s now. He was also in the Best Film winner, the big prize at the end, which went to a film named "The Fashionistas" that deals with bondage and S&M from what I read and the comedian host said that this film was the best porn movie he ever watched, also in terms of story, which admittedly made me a bit curious, but the subject is really one I am not too curious about and the running time of over 4.5 hours is not exactly helping either. Is this the "Schindler's List" of adult movies? Who knows. I'll probably never find out. This is probably all then that comes to my mind. It's enough anyway. I would say that this show felt pale compared to other AVN Awards shows, even those that weren't exactly a revelation either. Moments of quality were too rare like the comedy video early on (the one I mentioned that features Spears) or when we see Jenna Haze (at least as cute as Allie Haze), perhaps the most beautiful woman featured that night. Another thing I reccognized was that this time they did not try as much to speak up for their branch compared to "real" films the way they have done it occasionally during these shows. But that's not one of the reasons why I thought this sucked. There were others and I think I made myself clear. Don't watch.

Adult Video Stars do (not sexually tard!) Shakespeare and Win
dingusamongus3 February 2005
I'll be the first to admit to anyone, my mom included, that I enjoy porn - except to my girlfriend, to whom I will flatly deny porn's very existence. So imagine my surprise when i see a video document of an awards ceremony for porn actors and actresses! I'm embarrassed to realize how ignorant i am about how hard (lol) porn acting really is. I mean I really thought it was - drop trou, shake hands in a non-biblical way, sweat a little and whew, I'm spent. I'll be honest, I tried to fast-forward to all the naughty bits, but there really weren't any!? Oh sure there were a few boobage shots, but no real other action except for bouncing tas as the actresses ran up the stage to get their awards. I would also like to share my dissatisfaction by mentioning that there was no real award for best food fetish film, as i felt that the acting in "Bikini Clad Custard Pie Throwing Chicks 3" was particularly flawless and very believable. I'd like to add that these porn stars wear more and kiss less than stars at the Oscars...remember when Angelina Jolie french kissed her brother? Now that was hot! Sadly there was none of that kind of kinky action at the Adult Video News Awards. With all due respect to the hard (lol) working men, women and transgendered people in the Adult Video business, I think I will stick to watching the pervy Oscars in the future - they are way dirtier.
