While growing up, Mata Amritanandamayi Devi seemed to have so much going against her. Born in a poor country with a condition known as temporal lobe epilepsy (T.L.E) (see PBS NOVA _Secrets of the Mind_ for details on T.L.E.) and parents who did not understand her she went on to gain their love, conquer T.L.E., and progress to a living saint, the embodyment of love, a Bohdisattva.
The daily schedule at Amma's Ashram in the 90's started with the wake up call at 04.30 AM followed by the recitation of the 1008 names of God. The Darshan, when you get to meet Amma, started at 11.00 AM and lasted for 3 or 4 hours, depending on the size of the crowd. In the evening from 6.30 till sunset PM Amma sang Bhajan's.
