Not the best Cartoon Network show, but it was good
Rectangular_businessman25 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
"Camp Lazlo" is a decent cartoon. It is not at the same level than much better shows like "Megas XLR", "Samurai Jack" or "Dexter's Laboratory ", but at least this series had some likable and funny characters (Even if at moments those character could be a bit annoying). Back then, I could see some similarities between this and "SpongeBob SquarePants" in the style of humor and characterization, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Even when this show isn't at the same level of the previous creation of Joey Murray ("Rocko's Modern Life") it was an entertaining cartoon anyway. I just don't understand why it received so much criticism. In many ways, it was much better than other shows that Cartoon Network had in those years, like the obnoxious "Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi".

You know, I guess looking at it from a kid's point of view, this show isn't that bad
abrown97516 July 2010
I guess this show is okay. I mean, it could be a lot worse. At least the characters actually have personality and they don't all sound the same. The humor isn't actually that bad, considering this is a show for children. The last time I watched I didn't find any fart jokes, and there is honestly nothing I hate more than thirty minutes of "Hey kids! Let's fart because they sound funny!" I guess that compared to a lot of garbage on television nowadays, this show really isn't that bad for children. Children laugh at jokes without inappropriateness, randomness, or hidden innuendo for adults who might be watching, so that's really all that matters. The only things that really bug me though are the main character Lazlo, whom I find to be just plain annoying (voice, animation, personality, the whole enchilada), and the theme song, which is probably the most annoying theme song I have ever heard (and I've heard Fanboy and Chum Chum, so that's saying something). But that's just me. Other than those, I can't find any reason to hate this show. As long as kids like it and it's good, clean fun, then that's good enough for me.

not impressive to me
bdwilner18 August 2006
I don't really understand how anyone can sing the praises of this lukewarm show. The writing is flaccid, the characterizations are weak, and the plots are virtually non-existent. True, Raj, the elephant with the Indian accent, is quite amusing, and Edward, the platypus with the chip on his shoulder, provides nice counterpoint to Lazlo, the overly cheerful spider monkey. But--and I speak here as a die-hard fan of the Cartoon Network who can stare at Billy and Mandy, Foster's, etc., for hours without end--I feel no compulsion whatsoever to watch even fifteen minutes' worth of Lazlo's lame doings, even if it is competently drawn. Sorry.

Best new cartoon of the year
mby_hm11 August 2005
Camp Lazlo is the best new combo kid/adult cartoon since the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy. It's not surprising, given that it includes the talents of Tom Kenny, Joe Murray, and some of the other creative geniuses behind the revolution in comedic cartoons we've witnessed over the last decade. It's a worthy successor to some of the recent generation of outstanding Nick cartoons like Fairly Oddparents and Spongebob.

The voices are superb and the writing is sharp. For better or worse, cartoons seem to be nearly the only medium in which you can use accents - acceptable because they are married to two-dimensional animals rather than human beings - without overt accusations of political incorrectness. In Camp Lazlo, the vocal work provides texture against the dialog, giving it an aural depth that, odd as it may seem, children's television has maintained while adult fare has lost. And no, it is not offensive at all.

I highly recommend everyone check this new show out, because it is deserving of your time.

Like SpongeBob, but not as good
kikiboo_821 May 2022
I think it's very similar to SpongeBob. Even Lazlo's voice sounds like SpongeBob's voice, to me anyway.

Humor is very similar if not the same as in SpongeBob too.

It's just less funny, less intelligent and less compelling or interesting than SpongeBob.

I know this is an independent show, standing for itself and so on, but the similarities are hard to miss.

It's not a bad show at all, it's pretty decent, just not quite great either.

Characters are definitely lovable and funny.

I love Lazlo and Raj, but also the angry scout master... He's hilarious. I love that type of characters in cartoons.

Why do People Like This Show?
ArcPaladin16 September 2006
This cartoon is a lame excuse to keep kids entertained. There is horrible animation, lame plots, and is simply boring. Cartoon Network use to have a great schedule, with classic Looney Tune cartoons and funny shows to watch on Cartoon Fridays like Johnny Bravo, along with Toonami beforehand. The schedule they have now is messed. I can't stand watching today's cartoons, everything that seems funny to people in this show has been done before a million times in older cartoons. I portray this as a low budget cartoon there to make cheap laughs. After watching one episode I decided there were better shows to watch. The characters weren't funny, they were annoying.

Go watch The Animaniacs or Family Guy as comedies, or if you like serious cartoons watch Batman: The Animated Series or Avatar: The Last Airbender. Either way they are more fun to watch than this garbage.

Lazlo is just a little nice monkey with a big heart....and a great show
lucykittens17 July 2006
Camp Lazlo® is one of my favorite shows. I may be too old for it, but who cares? It's just so I don't know, good I guess. I like that Lazlo is a monkey that is almost the best bean scout, how Slinkman is so quiet and good, and how Raj is from India. It's just a good kid show too. It is just a show for kids about a monkey at camp named Lazlo who has 2 friends named Clam and Raj who run around being good bean scouts! I guess maybe it's not just a kid show in a way. It just makes anyone watch it, from 1 to 100. It's for anyone. At least to me and my sister, who are loyal fans! It brings you in even if you think it's not funny. To me it shows camp, not the best camp but Lazlo makes the best of it! Thats why I give Camp Lazlo a 10 out of 10!

Not the best, but better than rocko in my opinion
josemiguel-711928 January 2023
I prefer this show over Rocko's Modern life, Rocko at best it's funnier than this show, but the problem it's that a lot of the humor in that show it's just random in a way that is more annoying than funny, this show it isn't hilarious but is funny sometimes, at worst it's just boring. At least it isn't annoying like the bad episodes of rocko, (I just watched some episodes of this show not all, maybe my opinion will change when I see more episodes).

Watch for example the episode "Hello Dolly" it isn't the funniest thing ever but it's decent, if you don't find this episode funny at all I don't recomend to you to watch more episodes.

If you liked Rocko's Modern Life, you'll love Camp Lazlo
backflipboy8 September 2006
It seems that cartoons aren't treating kids like idiots anymore.

It was by chance one Saturday afternoon while channel surfing that I came across Camp Lazlo and the first thing that struck me was the resemblance of the animation to Rocko's Modern Life - and why not? It's made by the same person who created that show.

Young kids would be taken in by the speed at which things happen in each episode - there is no time to stop and think about what is going on nor is there any need to. Pure entertainment with no lesson to be learned at the end of the show.

It's all typical little boy behavior and insanity at Camp Kidney on the shores of Leaky Lake, with the only creature approaching any form of sanity being a slug named Slinkman - at least I think he's slug. He does have legs after all.

Where there's trouble, Lazlo the Brazillian Spider Monkey will be found smack bang in the middle of it with his two best friends, Raj the Indian Elephant and Clam the Pygmy Albino Rhino doing their best to keep up with him, leaving the rest of the gang of Bean Scouts to just go in whatever direction Lazlo and company pull them.

Watching over it all with a deep desire to escape is Scoutmaster Lupus (or Lumpus as everyone else calls him). This is one Scoutmaster you wouldn't want looking after your kids for any length of time.

Highly recommended for anyone who feels like an escape from the rat race and a few good laughs.

Great
bpacker43014 November 2006
This is one of the best animated shows on TV. Maybe one of the best in the last five years, right up there with SpongeBob. Now I'm not the type of person who likes trying new shows. My philosophy is "im not gonna waste my time on this, there is something better on TV". but one day I gave it a shot and did not regret it. It was great!! I love the comedy in it. The creators of this must be comical geniuses. I'm an older "kid" i guess, and i usually don't watch Cartoon Network and Nick but I made an exception.

There are so many good things about this show. It is funny, it is entertaining, it is just good!!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot of the people that made Camp Lazlo made and are still making SpongBob Square Pants. They did a great job with SpongeBob and they are doing a great job with Camp Lazlo. Joe Murray did it with Rocko's Modern Life and now he is doing it with Camp Lazlo. I cant say enough.

Oustanding show
TheLittleSongbird7 August 2010
This mayn't be my favourite cartoon or show ever, but it is an outstanding show. Is it quite as good as Rocko's Modern Life? No, but that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable.

The animation has a unique style to it, and works really well, and the music is great too. And I loved the clever and funny writing, and the engaging and original stories. Also I found the characters really endearing and funny, Lazlo is certainly very likable, and so are Raj and Clam. My favourite character though is probably Slinkman. On top of that, the voice work is excellent.

In conclusion, this show is outstanding. 10/10 Bethany Cox

If you or your sons were involved in Scouting, you'll LOVE "Camp Lazlo"
d-j-dekok25 June 2016
I was an enthusiastic Scout, and later Scouter and Eagle Scout Dad, and as cheesy as you might find "Camp Lazlo", I found it to be a cute, nostalgic trip down memory lane and my days in Scouting. I identified with everyone and everything from Scoutmaster Lumpus to the kids with flies buzzing around them constantly, from bad food to activities that didn't work out quite the way they were supposed to. Most importantly, though, is that the boys/bean scouts learned to get along with each other, even if it was at the expense of Scoutmaster Lumpus. EVERY Scout or Scouter I've known knew a Scoutmaster Lumpus. This show makes me smile warmly, and I highly recommend it to adults and children alike.

A family friendly show
stollensecret21 February 2008
I don't know who wouldn't enjoy this cartoon. It reminds me of cartoons that I watched when I was little. It is fun for the whole family (my nieces and I watch it together and love it). In other words, it can make kids from 5 to 50 laugh, and I honestly think that it is clean wholesome and fun. Who ever wrote the other comment about this show, just ignore, if you like watching things like family guy then you probably wouldn't like a cartoon that is Y7. I would highly recommend this cartoon for the more conservative parent. Like I said, I am older and think its funny. Who wouldn't enjoy the adventures of a happy go lucky monkey, an elephant who is afraid of bugs and a rhino who speaks in two or three word sentences? Not to mention a cast including a sour, jealous platypus, a gerbil that is a hypochondriac, two dung beetles that are not quite smart, and my personal favorite, a sour, geeky moose who is in love with the scout mistress across the lake for their scout master. They also have a health guru chef, and a whole cast of squirrel scouts, the girls of the series.

Funny and imaginitive
mitsubishizero15 July 2019
I grew up watching this and I have to say it really brings back good memories. The show focuses on an optomistic monkey named Lazlo (Carlos Alazraqui) who gets sent to summer camp where he befriends a neurotic elephant named Raj (Jeff Bennett) and a mostly quiet rhino named Clam (Carlos Alazraqui). Together they have several adventures ranging from avoiding the up-tight scoutmaster named Lumpus (Tom Kenny), exploring outside the camp to running into the Bean Scouts and either competing against or working with them depending on the episode. The animation's nice to look at, the characters are interesting and well-developed and the gags are funny. One of my favorite gags is seeing one scout Edward (Jeff Bennett) get angry. In one episode there're literally explosions in his eyes not once but twice. I don't know why but I thought that was funny. Both kids and adults will like this show.

Camp lazo
maddiebuggie26 April 2020
This show might not have been on hire for that long compared to some other stories but it was good. I love every second that I showed it. It was never boring. I love the cast of character there was. There character development and character designs were all good too. The animation was good. It was about the life of animal going to summer camp. I loved that idea and the director who made it did a good job on it. I wish there was more episodes if I am being honest.

This show is my nostalgia.
luckylucky17983 April 2014
I'm 15 years old, as April 3, 2014, and this show come out in July 8, 2005, that makes it almost 10 years old, now. I was only 6 years old when it come out and I loved it back then and I still love now as a 15 year old man. In the 2000's, Cartoon Network had 3 shows I loved, Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, Ben 10, and this one. I guess you can call my love for Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends and Ben 10 nostalgia, who cares, not you, HAHAHAHA! and no, me loving theses shows now is not nostalgia. Nostalgia is loving something in the past, not now. Me loving theses shows now is just me loving theses shows. But nostalgia beside, I still love Camp Lazlo, along with Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends and Ben 10.

One of my childhood favorites on Cartoon Network, next to Chowder and Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi
DannyD199712 December 2016
Like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, and Chowder, Camp Lazlo! was another one of my favorite Cartoon Network shows from my childhood. Sure, it's not as good as Joe Murray's other show: Rocko's Modern Life, and it may not have as much adult jokes, but it's still such a timeless, heartfelt, and hilarious cartoon show. I really love the characters and the animation. "Radio Free Edward" was my all time favorite episode of Camp Lazlo! I loved Camp Lazlo! as a kid, and still do as an adult. While I would prefer Rocko's Modern Life from Nickelodeon, I still loved watching Cartoon Network's Camp Lazlo! One of my favorite characters is Edward, because he's a jerk done right, like Eric Duckman from Duckman. No matter what age I'll be, I'll always have fond memories of Camp Lazlo!

The show never declines through it's run
jakerchief17 December 2021
Unlike some shows that start to run out of ideas after the 4th season, this one knew to call it quits perfectly at the right time. It has just enough episodes to binge and then set aside for a bit and start back up.

I love all the characters and they seem to be well thought out. A lot of camp centered shows just miss the mark about the meaning of going to camp but this one stays on course.
