Comedian Howie Mandel is headed back to NBC, this time as host of the game show Deal or No Deal. Deal was described as "a big, exciting game show that contains nail-biting drama and hefty cash prizes" when NBC announced the pickup of the show earlier this year. The show is based on an Endemol format that has been a hit internationally, airing in 38 countries. Deal is set to begin production this week, though no airdate has been set, an NBC spokeswoman said. Mandel is a frequent guest and contributor of comedic bits to NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. He just wrapped a short run on NBC Universal-owned cable outlet Bravo in the comedy/reality series Hidden Howie. He first gained national fame as a member of the ensemble cast of the medical drama St. Elsewhere, which ran from 1982-1988 on NBC. Mandel is repped by ICM, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Bill Sobel.
