Elevator Pitch:
Ask a friend not in the industry to name three female filmmakers they love. I bet they can’t do it. Why? Why don’t we see and hear more about the incredible films by women? Women have been making films since the invention of the camera yet they continue to be the underdogs of fighting against systemic bias to get their work made. Sarah digs into the post-Angel careers of David Boreanaz, Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, Charisma Carpenter and more...
It’s been about a decade since the last episode of Angel, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off series about the vampire with a soul, aired. The final episode of season five, Not Fade Away, first appeared on Us television screens on 19 May 2004. That seems simultaneously like a very long time ago, and not very long ago at all, because time is vast and human brains are small and fallible, but it’s safe to say that in TV years, it’s a pretty long goddamned time.
The men and women behind the characters we used to spend one night a week with have gone on to other things – some bigger and better, others kind of rubbish – and unless you’re a particularly obsessive superfan, you...

I love the art of animation, and it's amazing to see how far things have come and advanced over the years. The industry is changing in terms of technology, but what it all really comes down to is telling good stories. There's been a lot of great animated movies this year, and many of them are up for several awards at the 40th Annual Annie Awards.
Some of the movies nomainated include Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Wreck-It Ralph. Out of those films my favorite is a toss up between Wreck-It Ralph and ParaNorman, those were two pretty incredible films. I think ParaNorman has the edge though.
Some of the other animated properties nominated are Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, Disney Tron: Uprising, Justice League: Doom, Robot Chicken ‘DC Comics Special', South Park ‘Raising the Bar’, and several others.

Actor Tom Schanley has achieved something rare and wonderful...career longevity. His talent, charm, and movie-star good looks are all part of why Tom has been able to carve out a twenty-year career in film and television. That, and a penchant for playing a really good bad guy. His extensive resume of television appearances are too long to mention here, and his film credits include roles in Conspiracy Theory (1997), Courage Under Fire (1996), and Heartless (1997). He now has a few more film projects underway, one of which is How I Spent My Summer Vacation (2011) starring Mel Gibson. The film, which was co-written by Mel and director Adrian Grunbert, features Tom as Gregor - a hit man in hot pursuit of Mel's character. This July, Tom will also star in the Hallmark Channel Original Movie Keeping Up With The Randalls (2011), which features Tom in his first role as a father (Doug Randall...

Tj White, CEO of T-Minus Productions, has attached Nick Jacobs to direct the film Company Man, a project Jacobs also penned. This marks the second collaboration between Jacobs and the film company, as they are in active development on Fight Schlub, a romantic comedy set in the world of Mma (mixed martial arts.)
Company Man is a comedy about two rival office slackers forced to work together to outsmart a corporate efficiency expert before the two men are found out and fired — problem is, the person on their trail is a beautiful woman that one of them falls for.
Jacobs received his Mfa in film directing from UCLA and has recently completed his first novel, a dark comedy in the vein of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. He also served as a staff writer and story editor for the action Sci-Fi TV series The Lost World and has...

They make interesting pairs—the colleagues and the characters they play on the TNT series "Dark Blue." A veteran of the long-running legal procedural "The Practice," Dylan McDermott is now playing an Lapd lieutenant who heads a highly covert team. This season he is joined by Tricia Helfer, veteran of the sci-fi drama "Battlestar Galactica," who plays his new superior on a joint task force between the police and the FBI. Sparks will fly on the series, but here the two actors congenially discuss their early struggles, work on the show, and thoughts on day jobs.Back Stage: Tell us how you broke into the business.Tricia Helfer: I didn't grow up wanting to be an actor. I thought you had to be kind of wild and crazy to do that and didn't realize there was a whole other side to it. I started modeling. I was discovered,...

Nick Lachey, the former member of 98 Degrees, will add a new title to his name, a host. People reported that 37-year-old singer has been assigned by NBC to host a new reality TV singing competition, "The Sing-Off," next December.
About the show that will center on the competition of eight a cappella singing groups, the boyfriend of Vanessa Minnillo told People, "There is nowhere to hide when you're doing an a cappella song. There's no band behind you and dubbing." He continued, "It's just you. It's just them naked on stage and what they have done to prepare is what will show in that moment."
"The Sing-Off" itself will be premiered on December 14 and will follow the singing groups as they battle for an Epic Records/Sony Recording contract. In the show, the contestants are not allowed to use any instrument but their voices. Back in September, auditions for the...

Summer blockbuster producers, take note: David Boreanaz could very well be your next big action hero. "I'm like a gold mine," jokes the actor, "an undiscovered gold mine." After all, slaying demons and engaging in death-defying feats was part of his daily grind as the tortured title vampire on the cult series Angel. "I would come in and learn a fight sequence and kick some ass and jump off a burning building," he says. "It was amazing the amount of work we did in those years." These days Boreanaz is still bringing small-screen bad guys to justice, but as a decidedly different character: intuitive FBI agent Seeley Booth on the Fox hit Bones. This season the actor, who also serves as a producer on the show, is stepping behind the camera to direct a few episodes. "I think if you're involved in a television show, especially an hourlong show, you're...

Following his successful multiepisode turn on the WB Network's Charmed, Nick Lachey is ready to become a TV leading man. The singer-actor has inked a development deal with Fox Broadcasting Co., 20th Century Fox Television and studio-based Brad Grey TV to topline a half-hour or one-hour series project created for him. The deal with Fox and 20th is in second position to Lachey's pact with ABC for the comedy project Hot Mom. The pilot, in which Lachey co-starred as part of his development/talent deal with ABC and Touchstone TV, was not picked up by the network in May, but it still has an option on the actor until year's end. Lachey, who became a pop culture fixture as a member of 98? and with the MTV reality hit Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, in which he stars with wife Jessica Simpson, has been in high demand recently. Last month, he landed his first feature role, joining the indie film The Hard Easy (HR 9/23). Additionally, after the ratings success of the ABC special The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour, Lachey and Simpson are working on a Christmas special for the network. Lachey is repped by ICM and Brillstein-Grey Entertainment.
