Behind the Scenes: An American Werewolf in London (1981)

*** (out of 4)

Five-minute promotional piece has John Landis and Rick Baker being interviewed as they try to sell the film AN American WEREWOLF IN London. The narrator starts off talking about films like WEREWOLF OF London and THE WOLF MAN and Landis then talks about why he wants to do something with different, more up-to-date effects. The effects really aren't shown in great detail as they certainly wanted to keep them under wrap but what we basically get is Landis talking as quickly as he can to try and sell the movie. These shorts were made to draw interest in a film and I think for the most part this one succeeds. I'm sure had I seen this back in 1981 that it would have made me interested in the film. Not only do we get some behind-the-scenes stuff but it's also fun hearing Landis talk about the older movies. It's also fun seeing him perform his one stunt in the movie. At just 5-minutes there's nothing ground-breaking here but it is fun to watch.
