THE LOST ARK was recently given an airing on the Talking Pictures TV channel here in the UK under the moniker of BEYOND THE TRUTH. It's a one-man-band production by director/writer/presenter Bruce Burgess, who I had previously seen presenting the documentary DREAMLAND: AREA 51. This short, hour-long effort looks into the existence of the famous Biblical ark, and asks questions as to where it might reside.
Burgess is certainly an enthusiastic and likable host, and there's something appealing in his laidback manner. However, THE LOST ARK is hardly what you would call an objective documentary. Burgess comes from the standpoint that the ark definitely exists and is still around somewhere, and inserts interview footage with the usual kooky types to discuss it.
Had the documentary spoken to various academics and archaeologists as to the mere existence of such a thing, it would have had more credibility. Instead, it feels credulous. Some minor interest comes from a trip to Ethiopia, where the ark is said to reside in a heavily-guarded temple where, unsurprisingly, nobody is allowed to see it. All this leads to merely more conjecture, which is what THE LOST ARK boils down to at the end of it all.
